Second hand smoke kills...period. That's why I don't like smoking anywhere near where my kids will be. Even your smoke filled clothes cause third hand pollution.

I used to smoke but was able to break the addiction, wish the rest of the world could. Wish you could.

E-cigs may be the solution to yours and my problem. You get your nicotine rush, I don't get second hand smoke.

You make a lot of assumptions. I have been smoke free for over 10 years. The problem that you speak of is your own... not shared with me. If I want to avoid second hand smoke I do not hang out in the smoking section. I will not get pissy at a smoker who is smoking in a designated smoking section if I choose to enter that area of my own volition.

The whole deck gets packed, half the people don't know where the fireworks will be. For a few hours, Disney should require smokers to find another spot.

Hopefully within a year, Disney will realize that smoking should no longer be allowed at all on their ships. It's going to happen before 2020 I would guess

The only other spot is closed off completely because of the fireworks. The upper decks in the far aft are closed because they shoot the fireworks off up by Palo.

So maybe they should allow it on the balconies during the fireworks?

Why make it any more complicated than it already is.

And 2020 is a long way off. That could be a pretty easy bet. By then, the government in their mighty wisdom will probably have banned cigarettes, just like they want to ban all kinds of other things. There won't be a pastry to be found onboard, if the government gets their newest wish.

I'm not mad at smokers for following the rules, just wish Disney would change the rules! I lied, I do hate when a smoker gets in an elevator with me two seconds after smoking. Gag

Such a tired old discussion.

Body odor
Poopy diapers
Bad breath
Too much perfume
Passing gas

It's amazing to me that anyone goes out in public any more, with all of the "annoyances" there are to put up with.

but you expect smokers to not do something that they are entitled to do?:confused3

Lol, "entitled". The word you meant was "permitted". Eventually it will not be permitted at all.

I can remember smoking areas for students in high school, I can remember people smoking in the mall, I can remember the office manager at the doctors office smoking at the desk. Times change, eventually smoking will be gone. The rules on the subject have changed many times, each time the restrictions get tighter. Eventually (pardon the pun) it will be choked off entirely.

No, I said what I meant. Entitle: To give a right to. Entitlement: Something to which one is entitled, a benefit....

But, as you can see above, I agree....eventually the "permission" to smoke will be gone.

You must be a lot younger or older than I am, there was NEVER a smoking area at my high school, and for at least the last 20 years, smoking by anyone on school grounds (adults, teachers, whoever) is completely banned.

I am pretty sure this has been posted before about a cruise ship completely banning smoking. It may again in the future but I don't for a long time yet....it was tried once before and failed miserably.

The Carnival Paradise was toted as the world's only completely non-smoking cruise ship. The shipyard workers were not even allowed to smoke while building it. guests had to sign a non-smoking affidavit saying they would not smoke onboard or even carry on smoking paraphernalia. If caught with cigarettes or smoking it was a $250 and automatic off the ship at the next port. It was a really big deal. Guess what. A few years later they gave up because of lack of revenue. There were not enough non-smokers to fill the ship each cruise. And that is from Carnival who has a ton of other revenue coming in because of their casinos onboard.

I don't think Disney is willing yet to completely alienate smokers from cruising with them. It would be VERY HARD to completely fill a ship and not let anyone smoke anywhere onboard.

Yes there are more non-smokers nowadays but still not enough to justify a non smoking ship.

Not to mention crew members....who I'm told had a big part to play in being one of the reasons DCL went with designated smoking areas in public only. I was told there were a few small smoke related fires in crew staterooms....which they are now no longer able to do.

Isn't Carnival known for it's casino/party atmosphere? I can understand why a non-smoking policy would fail if that is the case. There is a study about gambling and smoking. http://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/files/compulsive/compulsive_gaming_week/Smoking.pdf

I think a DCL ban on smoking would not have much effect on their revenue.

I'll stand by my interpretation that smoking on someone's private property is not a right, not an entitlement it is simply an activity that for the time is currently tolerated. Eventually, it will be gone.

I used to smoke and it bugged me when my local bar went smoke free, but I adapted. Eventually I decided that the benefits of not smoking outweighed my enjoyment of it, so I quit. As fewer people take up the habit, more places will refuse to tolerate it and it will disappear, even on ships. One ship banned it and it didn't stick? So what, they were too early. There were other places on land that put rules in early and suffered, now they are the majority.
Allowing smoking comes with costs as well, there will be increased maintenance and insurance where it is permitted. At some point the percentage of people that participate in this activity will not be worth the extra cost of catering to them.

as predicted loooonnnnnggggg ago, your not going to make some non smokers happy till its completely their way. no matter what small area you give the smokers theres always going to be a non smoker tesk tesking about it.

stop whining already! you have the verandas, leave the smokers their small space. you can avoid it if you really try. i had no problems doing just that on our 14 day b2b recently. didn't run into it once. i could have made it a problem but i chose to live and let live. its not affecting me and before you say it is, i say its not.

jmho. now off to do something important. :laundy:

Smoking should be banned completely from the ship.

I only wish the ban had been in place prior to our October cruise. We had the most annoying chain smokers on the adjacent veranda and we couldn't go out there basically the entire cruise because of the horrible smoke from the chain smoker or their annoying bad mannered kid that would constantly stick his head around to our veranda.

Perhaps the next time that kid stuck his head around the corner, you could have used it as an opportunity to..."discover the magic". :rotfl2:

No way it is. We are just off the Magic and had no issues. It doesn't bother me at all, smoking is legal, it is pathetic what is being done to smokers. The areas on the magic did not interfere with anyone, in quiet cove if someone is that concerned they can walk on the other side.

May be the poor kid was trying to get a breath of fresh air.

I just don't understand spending time indulging in something like smoking while on vacation, guess I never will. Seems like a waste of time and money better spent elsewhere. Not to mention a drain on ones health. We all end up paying for it one way or another. Just my opinion. I pray we don't have that problem on our cruise.

Well back to the game...GO 'NOLES!
