I put together some burgers with ingredients I had in the fridge, I think they will be good. I sauteed portobello mushrooms with shallots and garlic, then added to ground beef with with a little salt, pepper and worcestershire sauce. As I formed the patties I put a cube of gorgonzola in the middle. :)
I usually work from a recipe but I am getting more adventurous these days. Can you 'throw-it-together-and-see-how-it-works', or do you like to follow a recipe?

9 times out of 10 I am a throw it together person. I just make it up as I go along.

But every now and then I like to try a recipe out. (to get ideas for my throw together ones!)

Baking- ALWAYS follow a recipe.

I mostly throw it all together. The worst part is when the DH ask what we are having. "I don't know! Chicken Something!" I'm not printing a menu - why does food have to have a name??

Generally, I follow a recipe the first time through for most things and then wing it on future attempts, except when baking. I always use a recipe when baking. I may use standard substitutions to alter the recipe, but I'll always use the recipe.

I do both. I like to take a recipe and then change it all up to fit my tastes. but, I also create my own recipes.

When DH is home, I use my standby favorites or cook from a recipe...
sometimes when he travels, I use the liberty of throwing things together and ususally they come out really good, but DS14 eats anything anyway, so that's why I get to be more adventurous!
I've made some really good things without a recipe!

I seldom use a recipe when cooking. The reason I don't like to bake is because I have to use a recipe.

I'm very anal about following recipes, but if there's something I'm comfortable cooking, I'll change it up a little.

DH is the one who likes to whip things together. He doesn't care if they are hit or miss. The hits are very very good and the misses are very very bad. :lmao:

:sad1: I usually need a recipe. Not very adventerous. I can do basic things like throw a roast & other items in the crock pot. My mom never used a recipe.......now I don't know how to make many of her dishes because she couldn't tell me how much of each thing I needed to add. She would say "I just add until it looks right." :confused3 Nope, sorry, I just can't do that.

I'm a throw-it-together cook as well (except, as others mentioned, for most baking.) I'm sure it frustrates my mother in law to no end when she asks how much of something I put in and I say "Um, 'til it was the right color." But she's very patient with turning my appetizers into written recipes.

Your burgers sound fabulous!!

I usually throw things together, but like a pp when I try a new recipe I will follow it to a t, and then start changing things up if we liked it.

Baking, I always follow the recipe.

When DS asks what we are having for dinner I just answer "some sort of food" because it has no name. And yet he keeps asking

OT: Wow, Saphire is that the view from your yard? I'm so envious if it is.

I wish. But it ours every late September when we celebrate our anniversary in Ogunquit, Maine. The view is from our cottage at 'The Dunes.' :)
