No passports stuck in Canada. Help Please.

Me too! I had visions of her being stuck in the customs area of YVR!

there was speculation elsewhere (or maybe here a few pages up) that she may have already gone through canadian immigration somewhere between NYC and YVR, so she may not have needed to show her passport again to get out of YVR, because it would be a domestic connecting flight between that airport and YVC.

dunno though. hope she comes back in a week to tell us!

Was she flying from NY? She's from Wisconsin.

there was a reference somewhere to NYC, again, can't remember if it was here or the other site. could have been speculation on someone's part though. but somehow she made it out of the YVR airport.

So relieved for the OP! I can't even imagine how dreadful it felt in the interim.

You could be spot on about already clearing Canadian customs elsewhere.
Possible she was flying from Chicago depending on where in WI she's from. And if so, it's very possible that she had a connection in Calgary or even Toronto - where she would have cleared Canadian customs there.

I am so glad everything worked out for OP. I hope she comes back to fill in more details and answer questions next week. I can see myself in that situation - panicked I reach out for help/support and then when everything works out needing time to decompress from the whole thing and get refocused on having a fun, relaxing vacation. For me, being on the internet rehashing my problem would not be relaxing. Also, I don't know about cost for international use of phone/data. I would be avoiding my phone/use of data if it would cost me extra money to be on the internet longer.

It's a moot point now but I remember reading that the plane she disembarked from was heading to NYC.

Do you have copies? I know when I travel abroad with work, we are told to make photocopies of everything and have a copy in each of our bags. This is in case anything like this happens.
Also, we have only traveled internationally 3 times, but all three we registered our details on the Department if State website for the embassy of that particular country. Was told if you had a passport problem, that would help. Hope your problem is resolved.:wizard:

If you're still trying to use the app, it's not to be used anymore.

I find the website to be lovely and simple now that they got rid of the app.

Never used the app. I don't like Tap-a-Talk or the other variations of it, so I didn't bother. That said, I still hate using the DIS mobile site (note that I used the word site, not app, in my original post, since I meant site and not app) and usually wait until I'm at a real computer.

I stand by my statement that that BSM site is *much* more user friendly and has much more to offer in the way of instant response - which she needed desperately - , notifications of said responses, number of active users and sheer depth of knowledge. For her situation, as well as several other applications, it is the singular best way to communicate. It's more of a on-the-spot, virtually-instantaneous communication tool than an in-depth resource, which is where the DIS excels.

Note I said "if".

Not everyone uses the exact words they mean.

I find the Dis on my cell to be almost BETTER than on my computer, and our experiences are SO different I figured you were still trying to use the app.

well this thread has taught me to bring photo copies of my passport and to pack them somewhere else besides my carryon

My wife stuffs copies in just about every pocket available for both of our bags, plus in my medical bag, her purse, our checked luggage and her travel folder. I swear she makes 187,402 copies before we even leave the house. :D

I never really would think to copy them because they are with you but gee you never know... and the whole Canada requiring passports vs the closed loop carribean cruise difference, completely forgot about that requirement and I'm from BUffalo, I should know better, but I left Buffalo before the started the passports required for international border crossing law

Just a suggestion... I've scanned my docs and emailed them to family so that, 1, it's on my sent email and 2, my family has it in case of an emergency. I know it's a risk to put that data even on email (is nothing on the net safe?), but I'm thinking I'm more likely to lose my passport (have it stolen) than have my email hacked. I could be naive, though.

She found it easy to post asking for help. It would be just as easy to post all is well.

We laminate a credit card size picture of our passport and always have it on us. Hasn't come in handy yet but feel better knowing it's there.
