Just curious if the number of exchanges from I.I. has increased or changed since DVC began? Does DVC (or BVTC?) allow suggestions from members of possible properties or areas to add?

RCI was the original exchange service for DVC. When that contract ran out, II was awarded the new contract and has apparently renewed recently. I think the number of exchange resorts is about the same- but the actual resorts have changed a little over the last 10 years.

DVC has added to the list of Concierge Collection resorts and is open to suggestion from members. DVC does check out the resorts on these lists to try to maintain a good value for exchange. It certainly can't hurt to let DVC know of resorts you'd like to see added.

natt,

Do you have particular II properties in mind?

DCL's timeshare exchange list ("World Passport Collection") consists of II's top properties plus a few exchange options through Disney's own Buena Vista Trading Company (BVTC). Some of the newest II properties aren't on the list yet, such as Marriott's Village d'Ile-de-France at Disneyland Paris; the resort is still under construction, but II is already taking exchange requests from II members.

BVTC does not seem to be increasing their own exchange program. I get the feeling that BVTC seemed like a good idea back when DVC was going to be a major timeshare company, and it was assumed that DVC members would frequently trade out. But now that DVC has evolved into primarily an on-site WDW timeshare operation (with the exception of HH and VB), and most members just go to WDW, developing BVTC into a bigger exchange company no longer seems to be a goal.

I really don't have specifice properties, however I do have an actual II directory that my mother-in-law gave me that I can see whatelse is there. I guess being from DE, I'd like to see some options at Delaware or Maryland beaches and even some more VA beach listings. The huge selling factor of DVC to us, was the options, but it seems like most of the people posting here do WDW everyyear! I was just curious - I'm not really stressing over it!

yes they do - I requested that Atlantic in the Bahama and the Marriott in Panama City to be added in the latest book they are there - so if you want one - write to member service and request that this resort be added - it won't happen until next year (or later) but I now I think it will happen.

I think the difficulty in increasing the number of II properties on the World Passport Collection list is that the six DVC resorts are so much better than the average timeshare resort.

Let's suppose a DVC family trades 263 points (Dream Season 2BR at OKW) for a 2BR during a popular season at another timeshare resort. If they get a 2BR at a high-quality, 5-star II property. such as a nice Marriott Vacation Club resort in agood location, they'll probably be pretty happy. If they get a 2BR at a second- or third-rate timeshare property, they'll probably feel cheated.

So DVC provides a limited list. And even with the current list, it's likely that DVC exchangers will react to many properties with, "Well, this place is okay, but it's no DVC."

When you book through member services, they will tell you NOT to expect a "Disney" experience.

We are booked in Marriotts Williamsburg timeshare for next July, and even though Marriott is one of the better trades, they still told me not to expect it to be like a DVC resort.

I new this from a previous trade. Although the place was nice, the furnishings were older, and there was much less offered (entertainment wise).

The percentages have gone up every year but only to 1.9% for last year (2001). That's still a pretty small amount of units for exchange in the timeshare world. Thread that has info on this area

I don't think it's quite that easy to get resorts added. The newer Marriott's and the Harbourside at Atlantis were destined to be added anyway. Still, it's a start and will get those at DVC responsible to at least think about certain resorts. I've asked for resorts to be considered that were not added. While they're not the very top resorts, they are solid resorts in areas not otherwise covered by DVC-II. I bought other timeshare to trade with II which are much cheaper, give me more options and have much lower dues. Some have priority into other systems as well.

BVTC has actually decreased their options. There were previously several HI options and a couple of west coast ones as well. Now it's just the Cordial group in Europe and Club Intrawest but only for Canada.

We spent 2 weeks in Hawaii on timeshare exchanges this past spring. We traded one week of DVC and our friends traded one week of a gold crown RCI. The DVC resort was certainly more plush and nicer than the RCI. It was actually very noticeable. The RCI exchange was to Princeville, Kauai, and the DVC exchange was to Kona Coast II on Hawaii.
