Could your family do this? I'm thinking mine really could! Our closets and drawers are FULL of clothes and I just got new socks and unders for everyone for free with deals at Meijers. I'm pretty tempted to challenge myself and see what happens :)

I've already bought school clothes and shoes, everyone has good winter boots and gear, I am just always SO tempted by the great deals at the Gap, Lands End and Justice! We are saving for a trip to DW next Christmas and I was thinking if I could just not buy anything new until Back to School next year I would end up getting some fabulous deals on end of the year stuff to use on our trip and we might actually use up and wear out alot of the stuff we have.

Whew,
That would be a hard one for me. One entire year? I do try to buy only when needed but every so often a cute pair of sandals just yell out my name.
I do love getting the "end of year" sales also. I usually get great deals on my courdoroys & turtlenecks around March.

I could do this...wait, I already do.

So you never buy new clothes? I can thrift shop too, just got a very nice gap jean jacket for me at Goodwill on half off day. But I usually buy the kids new stuff and then resale all the old stuff at a consignment store to fund the next seasons clothes. I usually earn about 1/2 of what I spend for the season.

Sitting here trying to not use my 40% off Gap coupon today ::sigh:: I think thats why I've been thinking "do I really need anything"?!

DH & I could do it, but not the kids. Everytime I turn around they've grown another 2" and I don't think they'd like having to go to school with highwaters or really tight short shirts. :goodvibes

Well, I've already bought the school clothes for this year so they are set, they have stuff that still fits from last year, and next summer would probably be covered too. My 8 yr old like those stretchy capri type shorts so maybe...:) yeah, she is the only one here who is really growing..my other dd is 17 and she has a closet full of stuff and her own job. I'm trying to shrink into some stuff I already have, that should do me, lol!

Could I do this? Yes. Do I want to do this? No. While I try to live in moderation, I think buying new things once in a while is a nice treat. I know I could do without a lot of stuff, but my quality of life would be different.

I don't know if I could do without new/used clothes for the kids for 1 year; they keep growing. My DD5 wears 8/10 clothing right now. My DS4 isn't as tall, but he's getting taller every day. However, I do hit the Goodwill hard; my DD is the lucky recepient of 15 Gymborree clothes for $32 from there.

That said, I did not do any back-to-school shopping and don't have any plans to. I picked up a good amount at used sales and will try to make it. The only thing I forsee needing is pants as they get short.

Not a chance. My 2 DS(14 and 12 in 3 wks) are growing like crazy. The sneaks and crocs are enough to break the budget. How about ice hockey skates-$350 yesterday.
DH uses clothes pretty hard and mine end up always ripped or stained,a pull in it...

DH will only buy clothes once a year. He hates to shop and so will go 1 time and get several shirts and pants! I enjoy shopping and think it is a great fun Saturday to go with my sister to the store and find a great bargain. So I don't think I could do it. But honestly I probably have enough clothes to get by but I don't want too!

Me? Sure. DH? Maybe, he's hard on his work clothes. DD? Never. The child grew 3 sizes this year alone. Unless I bought her clothes and shoes waaaay too big and she grew into them, it's just not possible. My only consolation is that she's turning into quite the budget little shopper and doesn't mind the clearance rack. :goodvibes

I get you, there are things I'm not willing to do to save for the sake of saving. I want my quality of life to include a super awesome 2 week vacation next Christmas so I'm looking at possibilities.

I love Goodwill :) And do some shopping there too. My favorite place to go was Saint Vinnies Dig and Save but I haven't been up to Madison for over a year. I used to get tons of great kids clothes and then sell a lot on consignment to fund my other clothes purchases.

I know I could do it for at least 2! I was just lamenting to my husband that all the clothes I have on in our one Photopass book are the same as I have on in the other, two years later-UGH! If it weren't for the date on the books...I look exactly the same! For next year's trip I'm getting new clothes-Gosh darn it! lol

We could never go a year without buying clothes. DD grows like a weed. That being said we don't go crazy on clothes. We shop sales and only buy what we need. The most expensive thing in my closet is a Disney Fleece Jacket that I splurged on 2 years ago $60. Dh's most expensive things are his work suits! DD's would be her $50 sneakers.

Absolutely not. DS has grown 5 inches, gained 26 pounds, and grown 4 shoe sizes since October (so essentially in 10 months). Now if he would wear my shoes that would help, but I don't see him in a pair heels or pumps!

We buy as needed not wanted. I work full time and there is no way I could go all school year without supplementing my wardrobe. Things wear out, get stained (don't fit anymore:confused3 don't know why though ;) ).

Wow!! Yeah that really wouldn't work for you :rotfl:

:rotfl:With a 13 and 9 year old, no way!

For me, I rarely buy myself new clothes. Which is why in a lot of our vacation pictures, I look exactly the same. :headache:

I have a very small wardrobe, as I'd rather spend the money on the kids. Same with DH. I have to actually throw things away before he'll buy new. Otherwise, he'll just keep wearing the same things until they literally fall apart.

I have to throw away DH's clothes too before he will go buy new. I made him come shopping with me last week it has been a year since the last time. Bought two new pairs of Docker shorts because he on only had one pair of good shorts in drawer. The five other pairs have holes and paint and other various stains. LOL. I always keep about 6 Nautica tshirts for him in drawer. When I catch them on clearance at MAcy's or Belks at end of summer I will throw away what we have except for maybe two for yard work . Just picked up two the other day. Won't buy any more till end of next summer most likely.
