No need to wait until your UY to go

Also be aware that the "estimated occupancy date" could possibly change if the building is behind schedule. Building 2 in Phase 1 of SSR was pushed forward one week last spring (??). We got a letter in the mail from DVC (this was just before anyone with SSR points could book at all) and had to push back our vacation date.

Certainly a ringing endorsement from a man who uses moldy deodorant!

PS- I agree, and I'm sure Tony's deodorant is lacking in mold and emits a pleasing odor to the senses. This post relates to a prior thread that only those of us who were "experts" at divining the meaning of screen names could participate in.

Too funny, and BTW (hows this for a segway?) here's the link to that thread:

We had a similar experience. We bought SSR in sept, for a use year of April. We bought BWVs in December, same use year. We booked our BWV pts for a trip in sept (bank, current year, and borrowed). We called to book a trip Jan 05, thought i was going to have to cancel part of my BWVs to have points for this trip, but I didnt, and the counts they gave me back matched as if they "borrowed" the points from my SSR contract.

My guide said i couldnt stay on my SSR points before March(march was estimated opening date), but MS said i could. So I have learned that OKW is awesome and im excited to be a real DVC memeber with a DVC stay under my belt

I don't know if I am understanding this right, but we purchased 200pts at SSR in August. Although the actual building won't be done until March my guide said I could make reservations as long as they were after the March finish date, also my UY month. I have reservations for Oct. 2-9 which I made in Nov 04 and was told by MS that these were my 05 points. Does any of this make any sense. :confused3

we signed to purchase 300 points ssr (phase 2 to close in june) in October. We wanted to come back in December for mvmcp and our guide helped to call ms to make the reservations (OKW, by the way, very nice golf course view). She said the points could be used for that trip. In November we did and "add on" of 75 points at bwv because I had been torn about the 12 years vs reallin liking bwv location 'thing". We had already purchased airfare for our romantic getaway and my mother was coming to watch our three kids. When we called to confirm reservation and make sure our room preferences were listed we ended up being transferred all around. We spoke to many, many people at ms. Some said, " you can not stay on property until you close, or until your unit is ready/built at ssr." To confuse the issue, we had already closed on the 75 points at bwv. They cancelled our reservation at first, then re-instated it after my husband spoke with a supervisor--we already bought air etc. etc. etc. They finally decided that even though we were not supposed to be able to use ssr points yet, they would honor the reservation and take the points back in june when we close. Since we put a substantial amount of money down, I fugured there wasn't much risk for disney by letting us "borrow (?)" our ssr points. Plus they had informed us that they would take the 75 bwv points for the stay we had in december. I was happy they honored the reservation since I was sooooo excited about the get away. I love to hear "welcome home!" With I were there now, expecially since we got a little snow today. :flower:

As mentioned before.....My UY is September 2005. I have 250 points at SSR.

I advanced (not borrowed) 162 to go 9 nights to BWV on May 2005 (4 months before my UY)(If they were borrowed points the points would have been moved to 2004 UY and would not have been able to go back to my 2005 UY). No problem the CM was a little confused and called my points borrowed intead of advance.....but made my reservation.

Here is where it gets interesting :earseek:

I have decided that I won't need all those points for May and that instead I want to use them for my trip in October 2005 (After my September 05 UY).

:magnify:

The CM (who was not the first) told me right away that these were borrowed points and as borrowed points I wouldn't be able to return them to my 2005 UY.

I immidietly took my contract out of the file and read to her what it said on the Purchased Agreement paragraph 19 section e. that says in part " In the event that PRUCHASER cancels the Reservation, the DVD Points will be returned to the PURCHASER and be available during the initial Use Year"

She took a few seconds (maybe 2 or 3) and continue to help me with my new reservations. Canceling the points I didn't need and returning them the their original Use Year of September 2005.

I was very happy that this could be done. I just think that is something that is not done a lot and that is why everybody has hesitations towards it. If you can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity do so.

NOTE: It was never my intention to sound nasty and I apologyze if anybody was offended. I am relatively new to DVC Ownership but have been lurking around for years. I am not trying to take anything away from anybody. Just pass along good information. This can be done and has been done.

The point of this threat was the following:

Can you use your DVC points before your UY when you purchase new from SSR? ..................................YES.

Are these borrowed points..which means if cancel you can return them to their original UY?................................NO.

If you have any questions go to your Purshase Agreement paragraph 19. ***You might have to quote from this to the "experts"*** :rotfl2:

It makes perfect sense!

Your building will be ready for occupancy in March 2005. That means you can use your DVC membership to book a stay that occurs anytine after that.

With a March use year, your 2005 points are good for stays between 3/1/2005 and 2/28/2006.

Your 2006 points are valid for stays between 3/1/2006 and 2/28/2007.

Your 2007 points are good for stays between 3/1/2007 and 2/29/2008.

Your 2008 points etc.

An October 2005 trip falls within your 2005 use year, so you would use your 2005 points to book it. - which you could do 11 months in advance of check out for your home resort of SSR.

HTH.

Best wishes -

I think I get it finally. Melkimmom couldn't legally use her SSR points for the time she wanted to take her first trip, so DVC "traded" her some developer points. Later, she changed her May reservation and didn't need all the developer points. There are special rules for developer points**, so DVC took the "excess" developer points back (contract says they have to) and gave her back her 05 SSR points.

This is obviously a special deal that would apply in only certain circumstances - glad she posted because it could help someone, but also glad to understand the "regular rules" were not broken because they don't apply!

Best wishes -

** Probably DVC has to keep track of 04 vs 05 developer points internally and adjust the accounts accordingly if necessary.

We're going before our 1st use year starts using points from it and we didn't receive any developer's points, these are points that are advance from our June 2005 use year, which is when our contract starts. Points were advanced from them for our May trip - the only reason I thought to ask was because of her post and it wasn't a problem. We didn't have developer points because we took the cash. Rules weren't broken, I think this is just the way to handle it if someone wants to go before their first use year begins since you can't technically borrow from a contract that hasn't begun.

Jenn is right I took the cash too. Rules were not broken at all it's all in the contract as I mentioned. I suggest you call your guide if you have any questions or concerns. I am sure contracts chage over time and with each DVC Resort. This might be new I don't know, but it can be done. Some of of us took the cash and are enjoying the pleasure of going before our UY this year. That is a wonderful thing

I don't mean to confuse you and we don't mean for this to be a problem to anyone or a concern about where these points are coming from. DVC left that window opened for us and we went in. We couln't wait to go :hyper: But at the same time, we decided that it was in our best interest to take the cash back...so we did. But then we received our contract and realized that it was still possible for us to go before our UY so.........Why wait? :bounce:

If you have any questions at all or concerns..............again...........call your guide or better yet call Contract Quality Assurance. They were the only one down the "experts" list that could explined to me what paragraph 19 meant.

Best Wishes!!!!!

Yes, this makes sense. In March 05, you received your annual allotment of points. Since your trip is October of 2005, that will be your 2005 allotment of points.
When you make your reservation is not important. All that is important is that you WILL have points available for use when you take your trip.
