As mentioned before.....My UY is September 2005. I have 250 points at SSR.
I advanced (not borrowed) 162 to go 9 nights to BWV on May 2005 (4 months before my UY)(If they were borrowed points the points would have been moved to 2004 UY and would not have been able to go back to my 2005 UY). No problem the CM was a little confused and called my points borrowed intead of advance.....but made my reservation.
Here is where it gets interesting
I have decided that I won't need all those points for May and that instead I want to use them for my trip in October 2005 (After my September 05 UY).
The CM (who was not the first) told me right away that these were borrowed points and as borrowed points I wouldn't be able to return them to my 2005 UY.
I immidietly took my contract out of the file and read to her what it said on the Purchased Agreement paragraph 19 section e. that says in part " In the event that PRUCHASER cancels the Reservation, the DVD Points will be returned to the PURCHASER and be available during the initial Use Year"
She took a few seconds (maybe 2 or 3) and continue to help me with my new reservations. Canceling the points I didn't need and returning them the their original Use Year of September 2005.
I was very happy that this could be done. I just think that is something that is not done a lot and that is why everybody has hesitations towards it. If you can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity do so.
NOTE: It was never my intention to sound nasty and I apologyze if anybody was offended. I am relatively new to
DVC Ownership but have been lurking around for years. I am not trying to take anything away from anybody. Just pass along good information. This can be done and has been done.
The point of this threat was the following:
Can you use your DVC points before your UY when you purchase new from SSR? ..................................YES.
Are these borrowed points..which means if cancel you can return them to their original UY?................................NO.
If you have any questions go to your Purshase Agreement paragraph 19. ***You might have to quote from this to the "experts"***
