No more unlimited refills on resort mugs?

Actually, Ikea did do this... And it wasn't even 12.00 for the initial mug.

The cafeteria in our local hospital does the same thing. Buy the travel mug once and you can re-fill as long as you want. My 90 year old Mom has been in and out of the hospital now for 6 months (multiple myeloma, heart attack, kidney stones....gosh knows what else is ahead).

The cafeteria food is actually very good. The heart attack visit I was in the ER with her late at night waiting for a bed on the cardiac floor for transfer. The guard reminded me they serve a complete dinner at 1 am for overnight staff. I HAD walked out with my hospital mug in hand as I was following the paramedics. I had my soda along with my cream of crab soup. Yummo!

Actually, if you are a member of the mug police (to be a member you need to use the words cheat or steal at least once on your Disboards posts) you do not get a discount, but you do get the following perk: Disney allows you to be for 1 day a pool hopper checker at the resort of your choice. You stand by the pool entrance, and check everybody's key card to make sure they are a guest of the hotel. If you catch anyone you get to escort them out, and if you are lucky you not only catch a pool hopper, but you catch one with a mug that he bought in 1999 which they thought were good for life. I understand that the mug police guard can report the violator to Homeland Security, if they feel that the offender will be a repeat violator.

Ok, 3 am, can't sleep and now I have the ... GIGGLES. Great post. Thanks for the laughs.

Perhaps TSA will develop a machine which will screen for plastic Disney mugs on flights bound for Orlando!!! They can take the violators into custody and save Disney all that time and $$$.

Actual they scan them because you can hide all kinds off stuff between the double sides. It is on the homeland security page.

There is a park that has free drinks and parking!!! http://www.holidayworld.com/visit/free-soft-drinks

I don't know... what it might end up leeching into my drinks after long-term home use. Yuck.

If you are concerned about the bar codes, have you ever researched leeching of certain plastics and what they can do to the endocrine system? I would be more concerned about the plastic mugs breaking down over long-term use and leeching chemicals.

You did the math incorrectly. That poster quite clearly explained that they purchase 2 mugs for 2 people, but that they prefer to use their personal travel mugs to actually drink out of as the Disney mugs aren't as effective at keeping their drinks hot.

They pay for 2 mugs. They fill 2 mugs with coffee. They then pour the contents of those mugs into different mugs for actually carrying/drinking from. The Disney mugs are left behind, empty. The contents of those 2 mugs are consumed by the 2 people that paid for them, just out of new containers.

You are correct...I read the post incorrectly. My apologies to all involved.

It does seem to point out, however, just how complicated we all can voluntarily make our lives. Extra cups because the free one doesn't keep coffee hot long enough seems like a huge waste of life and time. If it is all that important, buy a cup of coffee, to me, at least, all that hassle just doesn't seem worth the comparatively minor amount of money involved. I guess it depends on how much you feel your time is worth. When you get to my age, you really don't want to waste it.

If one is so poor that they cannot afford the exorbitant cost of coffee, it seems like maybe staying at home would have been a better option. And yes, the same goes for parking fee's where they apply. :rotfl2:

If it really true that Disney used to sell the mugs with the terms "bring back and use it for future visits"? That seems weird to me. If it is true, how do they account for people who received those terms?

It may sound weird to you, but it's true the mugs were sold to be used on future visits. The first refillable mug I bought was at the WL, in the mid '90's. I didn't know anything about the mugs, but when I was paying for my food and drink at the check-out, I was given a sales pitch about the mug. It seemed to me that there was a push for the CM's to sell the lifetime refillable mugs. It might have been seen as a perk for staying at a WDW resort. I was even told if the mug broke just bring it back and it would be replaced for free. True story.

I just wonder how many of the "mug police" bought mugs or even went to WDW, 15 years or more years ago.

Our family has been to WDW five times. We always buy a mug for everyone in the party, everytime we go.........My concern is with the waiting five minutes to refill. One morning, I filled my mug, turned around, and a little kid knocked it out of my hands. I picked it up, washing it off, and refilled it. No problem. Another time, I filled my mug up, took a big drink, and discovered that it was all carbonated water. I just poured it out and made another drink. No problem. And, how many times have we all had our children spill their drinks and we have just ran back up and refilled the mug. I have no problem with them enforcing their policies, but I why do their solutions always involve greater inconvenience to those of us who have been following the rules?

The question on my friend's website had to do with (DVC) resorts that had a microwave. You can't microwave the chips. So no reheating coffee in the microwave in your mug.

The mugs aren't recommended for the microwave anyway.

The system has an override. One turn of a key disables the system. In the event of an emergency (like running out of syrup and just getiing soda water), the CM can probably help you. In the case of a spill, it is likely that it will take you a few minutes to clean up the spill anyway. 5 minutes really isn't that long.

I'm sorry but I just can not fathom why this is such a HUGE issue that is being talked about sooo much. :confused3

I've gone on two trips where I've bought a reusable mug each time. I honestly was very happy that the option even existed. Call me crazy but Disney could be very greedy and just say no more mugs...pay for each drink you get....and people would. If the option was never available, we wouldn't even be talking about it to begin with, right? I'm just happy to have the option. :thumbsup2

Here I am wondering why people are commenting on this and what am I doing??? :lmao:

Exactly! We only bought 2 mugs our last trip and shared with the girls. (They're big milk and juice drinkers, we didn't think they'd drink that much Coke.) We guessed on our last visit and think it's possible we got each fill down to less than $.25. Where else can you get a drink on Disney property for $.25?! We plan to go ahead and get 4 mugs next time so we don't have to share with them. We're not rich, we see the value in the system. It's just like the people who try to get their 5 year olds in without paying, if you can't afford it, don't go.:teacher:

They must have stopped that policy in 1997 because that is when we bought our first refillable mugs at the Polynesian and they were only good for the length of that trip at the Polynesian. Signs were posted over the stack of mugs and the refill station.

Becuasde the real truth is that a lot of posters on here despite their "speeches" have been resuing mugs that were never even purchased at Disney

(Hint.. if you adorn yourself with a green mickey heads with your screen name and then come on here and tell us "i didn't do" when we saw you doing... we are just sitting here laughing! I won't call out anyone, but... I have seen DIS members who on these boards claim "we follow every rule" doing just about the exact opposite.... That "Busch Gardens" mug was a giveaway that you didn't buy it at Disney!:rotfl2:)

OK...you got me looking b/c that would be hilarious. :rotfl2:

I don't see that on this thread. Was it on another thread or did they already catch their contradiction and remove it before they could get called out for it. I've just got to know.

I guess I'm just niave but people do THAT?? Why anyone thinks they are entitled to more "discounts" than others is absolutely ridiculous. Next thing you know Disney going to have to start asking for proof of age before you can buy a ticket. :sad2:

Or pass their 15-16 yr old as 9 for a character meal. Yes there was a recent thread with a post by a CM (hint if you are trying to pass as 9 don't talk about drivers training).

I think somebody just got busted! :rolleyes1

Just got back from a short trip and used last years mug each time I got coffee I went to the cashier to pay and they said thank you have a nice day and did not charge me. This happened every time every day. Did not matter who the cashier was. I told them coffee and they said have a nice day.
So I was following the rules willing to pay but Disney cashiers did not collect. So what does that make me?

Didn't read the entire thread yet so forgive me if this was already asked but:

Did you offer to pay for just the coffee? And why would you think that would be OK if using last year's mug? Did you offer to purchase a new mug? You were not following the rules. You were beating the system. It doesn't matter if you went to one cashier or 100 cashiers, you were still only offering to pay for the coffee. Did you point out that you were using an old mug? Betcha didn't.
