No more smoking or vaping in the parks

It IS very hard. So if I say anything it's not that I think smoker's gross. I watched my mother try for years and years, she started at a young age smoking her dad's Chesterfields. She really tried. She finally cut way down but couldn't all the way and it was too late for her, and I hate to be morbid, but she literally suffocated to death. Had emphysema and lung cancer. She was a very good kind person that was healthy in every other way, wasn't overweight, liked to exercise, swim, walk, ate healthy. But could not give them up and she really tried. If you ever watch someone die from lung cancer, that really might be a help to quit bc it was bad. Sorry to go there but it's something I feel strongly about sharing.

I absolutely agree with you, but I think many underestimate how difficult it really is. FIL had esophageal cancer from smoking. He had surgery/radiation and quit. On the 2 year anniversary of quitting he decided to celebrate by having just 1. Within days he was back to his couple of packs a day. 4 years later the cancer was all through him. He suffered tremendously and I will never forget him begging the doctors to just let him die. But MIL was also there (even more than I was) and unbelievably still smokes. The addiction is that strong. I tell my kids the best way is to not smoke in the first place then they never have to quit. But I still think smokers are deserving of compassion.

This is what mine looks like right now:

I get the recipes - I search for those all the time, and I tried to look up what I thought was a spam call just the other day, so those make sense.

The CollegeHumor one is probably because we've been on various college web sites for DS.

I did view someone's mother-of-the-groom dress they posted on another thread, and I belong to two threads on the W.I.S.H. board, so I even kind of understand the gross drink.

But I have no clue on the military pay, shoes, or senior airfare. (I can't even get that yet!)

I really don't mind them at the bottom (as long as the pics aren't too gross) but the ones in the middle of people's posts lately drive me nuts!

Your picture to the left (topics listed out like that) is how it looks on my laptop with ad blocker plus.

On my phone I get the ads in middle of the page but no topics listed out on the bottom of the page. No ad blocker on my phone.

Either way it's both funny but also slightly annoying lol

I have no idea if you did this or not, but I had an ad right underneath this sentence. Either way I laughed, so thank you.

I think I may have a solution for everyone, including the Disney board reviewers. Two locations in each park like the ones that are in Tokyo Disney with a small charge to use. If caught out side of these areas your banned from the park for the day.

I think it's interesting how much people seem to think Disney enthusiasts are more prone to break the rules than average people. Where I live you can't smoke in public pretty much anywhere--haven't been able to for at least ten years. I hardly ever see anyone smoke. And I honestly can't even remember the last time I saw someone smoke somewhere It was expressly forbidden. Apparently all those people are at Disney...

Disney attracts the "I've spent XXX on this trip, I'm going to do what I damn well please!" crowd.

Don’t allow tobacco products into the park would be the easiest way.

That depends on how willing Disney is to completely exclude the "smokers" market. Because even those who are willing to adjust to DSAs outside the parks and multiple trips through security each day are very likely to draw the line at being told that they have to leave their cigarettes at the resort and take the time to go back to their room every time they want one.

I did not comment on this earlier but as I read a lot of it I have one question. It is safe to say that people will honestly no longer go to WDW because of this new policy? I don't smoke so I cannot comment on the addiction, but I can comment on my WDW addiction and could not imagine giving it up because of the change.

I suspect some of us who will give it up are just less addicted. For me, it isn't this change alone but more of a straw that breaks the camel's back sort of thing - a decade ago, it would have been unfathomable for me think in terms of not going back, to not always be planning the next trip, but so much has changed in that time, so little of it for the better, that I just see it differently now. WDW went from a place where my family could pay a small premium compared to other destinations for a vastly superior vacation experience to a place where we can now pay a huge premium for a hit-or-miss experience. That has already made our trips fewer and further between. Now adding in the fact that DH is going to struggle with balancing his cigarette addiction with enjoying the parks? It makes it even less attractive, to the point of falling right off of our destination wish list.

But like any true Disney addict, I'm not going cold turkey. We're going to be on the west coast this summer and plan to hit Disneyland for the first time, and with the more compact size of those parks I'm far more willing to tell DH to suck it up and deal with the inconvenient DSA location. And next summer, we're headed to Japan, with Tokyo Disney and a potential side trip to Hong Kong in the plan, and DH isn't coming along for that trip so the smoking policies in the Asian parks are entirely irrelevant.

I think that, like smoking rates, is likely influenced by regional and socioeconomic factors (and maybe a time factor as well - if the ban is a decade old and was ever well-enforced, most people have probably adjusted accordingly). At our local beach, 90 percent of the "beach attendant" job description seems to be enforcing the smoking ban, and that's a place where you can literally walk 20 yards and be in a place where you can smoke legally and where there is an ashtray and benches to accommodate smokers. People still light up on the beach. But our smoking ban isn't that old, isn't consistent (state law prohibits smoking in most businesses, but parks and such still set their own rules), and has never really been well enforced. So you see a lot of people smoking in places they shouldn't, sometimes out of ignorance (no one measures the distance from the door and few read the rules signs posted at the entrance to city parks to tell which are and aren't smoke-free) and sometimes out of willful disregard.

Smoking has been banned on airplanes for a long time, and smoking is also banned in grade schools. I don't see how banning smoking in a Disney park is any different.

The diffrence is i was allready planning to stay in disney world for the duration. Thats way more then a day at school with breaks ( im assuming you ment the teachers) or even a flight across the usa ( at 6 hours). I allready booked my trip. It wasnt known before hand. They changed the rules. Plus I'm spending money , every minute im not in the park and traveling to get from where i am to go outside the park to smoke is money wasted or things i dont get to do. If they make a few spots to exit the amusments without exiting the park, so you leave but are like sequestered, that way you dont have to travel to the main gate or do security multiple times , it would be better. They do this in sports arenas now. To be honest, i would cancel my trip if my 7 yo wasnt looking forward to it. Now i have to cope with disney, lines , kid not getting to go on the rides they want , and some stress in addition to curb my desire to smoke. So not an easy task.

With that said, i never smoke where im not supost to , or even where kids might see it. I hide in shame with my addiction.

Unfortunately, people will move to smoke in the bathrooms, thats why all the arenas made accommodations. Those that didn't, still have smokers in the bathrooms.

Banning smoking in the parks isn't significantly different, though most people spend more time in the Disney parks than in other venues that have prohibited smoking. But banning people from carrying cigarettes/tobacco products in the parks, which is what you suggested in the post I quoted, is something else entirely. People can't smoke on planes but they can carry their cigarettes with them so they can smoke upon arrival. People can't smoke in schools or on school property, but smokers can still bring their cigarettes with them so they can step off property to smoke during lunch or breaks. They aren't told they have to leave their cigarettes at home.

Prohibiting people from bringing cigarettes into the park is likely to be a deal breaker for all but the most casual smoker because the majority of Disney parks guests don't drive to the parks and can't just leave their cigarettes in the car; to have a smoke break, they'd have to wait for a bus, ride back to their resort, walk to their room, smoke, and then wait for a bus to get back. Even staying on site, midday breaks can involve hours of transportation time. Staying offsite, where resort buses run less frequently, can take half the day.

both my parents smoked and my mother died of lung cancer. I was at her side in the hospital when she passed. Her last words haunt me to this day. She said "I can't breath". She took in one last breath and after a long exhale, she was gone. My brother had a quintuple bypass and was told not to smoke but still smokes. My mother in law has to get up 3-4 times during dinner when we all go out to eat and comes back stinking and it honestly ruins my meal so we have stopped meeting my inlaws for dinner. I also refuse to take our kids to their house as they smoke inside. She even lit up at the youth ball field and was told she can't and her reply was "well I am!" Smoking is a powerful addiction and though I am glad for the DSA's being removed from the parks, they really never bothered me. What did bother me on our last trip was a woman smoking on the bridge to the friendship boats at BC/YC. She even threw her butt in the water when she was done. I really don't see too many people sneaking to smoke but if they do, hopefully they will get escorted out of the park. I know Disney said they will warn but not enforce but if enough people start complaining they will have to do something. The sneaky smoking will be annoying but not nearly as bad as all the short temper people that snap for no reason because they are having a nic fit. I see a lot more fights and arguments in Disney's future.

Ladies, I clicked the "Best Dresses for Older Women" link and it led to links for 10 more sites. Choosing the resulting "Best Dresses for Women Over 60" and scrolling a bit produced this outcome. I'll bet most 60+ DIS women would rock this look.
