Dis Girls gone fanny pack wild!!!!!

fanny-pack.jpg

So are her "pants" tattoos because I don't think my legs would even be able to get on a pair of those!!!

Hey, but I'm liking the fanny pack! ;)

I saw a huge display of fanny packs on display at Walmart last week. So fetch!
I was in the Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, and Coach outlet stores yesterday and they all had a table of fanny packs. Can be yours for $220 to over $300 in the outlet. And the Armani Exchange had one the same color as in the post above, but it furry. A bright orange, furry fanny pack. All for a few hundred dollars.

Yes, I looked at them. :tiptoe:

Good to know though around 20 or so years is still a long time for any policy to be put in place. Our world changes so quickly these days lol.
Ridiculously long, but short in comparison to the existence of MK :)
If I remember correctly it was inside 30 days when the information was released to guests
I remember that! Wasn't it CRT? I think they were able to reaccommodate everyone, but I get the aggravation.
because I remember my husband ranting about inconsiderate smokers who were walking with lit cigarettes on crowded walkways (still one of his pet peeves b/c it "makes all smokers look bad").
I remember "conversations" about this, too. I tried looking back at my old posts, but can't figure out how to get more than ten pages.
You could be right on the 2005 part. I also went in 2005 but I can't really remember that sort of detail honestly. Mostly I remember still rockin' a fanny pack
Now they're called belt bags and they're (ahem) "stylish."
So if it isn't fun, why not just quit? There are lots of methods to help with that nowadays.
Because, addiction?

I don't know if it's the same on a computer, but on my phone if I go to the end of the 10th page, under the last post, I can click on "Find Older Messages."

Thanks. I tried that but it didn't bring me back any further :( But I definitely remember threads about cigarettes at eye level!

Let me make the statement clearer for those who did not understand the meaning of my post: Disney could have 1 smoking lounge or area inside each park- not outside the gate. Let me know if this is not clear enough.
It’s called sarcasm.

Hey....no dissing the fannie packs....now known by their cooler term, "waist packs" :) Guess I also dated myself using the word "cooler"!

Wait, saying "cooler" is no longer cool?!
I believe the term you ladies are looking for is "on fleek". That one can't be more than 5 or so years out of date, judging from how hard my DS cringes when I use it. :rotfl2:
I did quit. It took 15 years and at least a dozen serious attempts. I tried just about every available method (gum, patches, cold turkey, nicotine-free cigarettes, vaping, hypnosis...) until landing upon the one that was most successful for me — tracking and slowly weaning my intake. It was a 6-8 week process where I basically locked myself in the house and avoided all triggers as best I could. Alcohol, social interaction, smoking cessation commercials on tv... Inevitably, I would relapse at some point and have to go through the whole process over again.

I haven’t smoked in three years and still this thread has been incredibly triggering for me. I’m having cigarette cravings galore and for the past couple of days I’ve had the same lightheadedness and funny taste in my mouth I used to get when a few hours had elapsed between cigarettes. That’s addiction. One doesn’t “just quit.” It’s a battle, and often a lifelong one at that.
 Stay strong hon. You and I both know that's one wagon you don't want to have to get back on. :flower3:

I hate smoking more than I could ever describe (personal reasons) and yet this policy annoys me because it does nothing about the problem - and people smoking in the DSAs is not the problem! It's the ones who smoke in lines and crowds that is the issue. There is no way they are going to keep people from bringing cigarettes and vapes in and in my experience CMs will only ask once for a person to comply with the smoking policy; if they fail to comply the CM will just shrug and walk away.

That is the real key, that they strictly enforce it.

But what difference does it make, if there is only 1 unless you are already near it (and if you are in Main Street you will be near the exit) you will have to walk a distance to it anyway.

If I was a smoker I would just be relieved that the entire property hadnt been made smoke free.

After a hiatus from the boards, I came back to start the early planning stages of celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary, just the DH and me and the GF. This ban is a 100% deal breaker for me and that stinks. Its a shame the rule breakers ruin it for the rule followers, and I place blame at WDW itself for not policing their own rules. Dang it. Looks like a NCL cruise for me and my honey.

Norwegian Cruise Line has smoking on their cruise ships?

It’s funny, what ultimately keeps me from giving in to temptation is knowing I’d just have to quit sometime down the line and desperately not wanting to have to go through that again. In other words, I dread the quitting process more than I do the lung cancer and emphysema and whatever other consequences are supposed to be the reasons people shouldn’t smoke. Knowing just how awful it is to quit is what keeps me from smoking.

Good luck to you!

You can do this and you inspire me! :flower3:

Thank you for sharing this. I am hopeful that your story makes others understand how difficult “just quitting” can be. I once worked with a man who was in his 60’s. He had a heart attack in his 30’s and quit smoking. By the time I knew him he had not smoked in over 30 years. He told me that he still felt triggers almost every day. The triggers weren’t nearly as powerful as they once were, but after 30 years they were still there. I was shocked. It definitely gave me more empathy for my in-laws who were smokers.

And I mean this kindly, but maybe consider walking away from this thread if it’s triggering you? Nothing on the Dis is worth what it sounds like you are going through. I wish you all the best.

One area in the parks for all smokers would be horrible. I’m choking just thinking about it. It would have to be really far away from everything else.....like say outside the entrance.

I have a feeling that is going to draw complaints too, based on the one rumored location so far, because depending on how the wind blows it is likely to end up with the smoke drifting either to the docks where people are waiting for boats, toward the buses, or toward the entrance/security lines. By the lake, outside the gates of the MK, is a much higher traffic area than some of the existing DSAs.

But what difference does it make, if there is only 1 unless you are already near it (and if you are in Main Street you will be near the exit) you will have to walk a distance to it anyway.

The difference is the need to leave the park and then wait in lines to get back through security and the tapstiles again. One out of the way section within the park would likely shave 30+ minutes off of the time a smoke break will take, even if the walk to get to it is exactly the same.
