No more signed pillow cases?

Just googled 'Disney Character Signatures" and they're all there!! :goodvibes

I totally get the joy of signatures when you're received them from the character in person. we have a great photo album of the girls getting them. Memories that will last forever. But if you just want the signatures make something yourself before you go and then leave it in the room as a 'surprise' from mickey!
Hmm. That gives me some ideas! Like I need more to plan!!:goodvibes

We've had a photo matte signed at the parks! Our daughter was 7, and we usually got signatures in restaurants. The matte was easy to carry in our backpack, it came in a little protective cardboard frame we used in the bag to keep it in good shape, it was easy to do! We never had any trouble with the characters being able to sign it, in some ways it was easier than the autograph books we've used in the past. We did get one in Chef Mickey's, maybe you saw us, lol! We paired the matte with a beautiful PhotoPass shot of our daughter, it sits on our mantle, everyone who sees it comments on how cool it is! I say go for the photo matte, we will be having one signed on our Fantasy cruise in February!

We just went on a cruise in Nov. and I had ordered an embroidered pillowcase with my DD name, the date of the sailing and a ship on it. I took it to GS and took fabric markers with it to have it signed. On the last night, I forgot the tip envelopes in the room and went back and there was the pillowcase. I slipped it over her pillow.

When she returned to the room, she was ecstatic. She thought it was a gift from the ship because she didn't know I ordered it. I did have to tell her that I did it.

She sleeps with it every night and it is by far her favorite souvenir. She stood in line for all the characters and has pictures and an autograph book, but she loved the surprise of the pillow case.

She's 16!

Was it 2 or 3 weeks ago? :goodvibes

What size photomatte was it? If it was an 11x14 and you did that in the parks, then I'll just go do that. Or seriously make DH take me to a few more restaurants. :rotfl:

P.S. I considered practicing the signatures myself. But I kind of suck at that.

I really don't understand the appeal of signatures to anyone other than a child meeting the characters. C'mon folks - your items are being signed by people. Different people. Normal people. Might as assign a character to each member of your family and pass a photo mat around for all to sign.

Little kids getting sigs from live characters I do understand as I did that myself 30 odd years ago. But I really just don't see what's magical about asking CMs to sign a bunch of stuff out of sight and out of costume.

It's still believing in the magic. We have signed mats, pillowcases and t-shirts. Brings a smile to my face and brings back wonderful memories of the cruises. IMHO

We had both a photo mat and pillow case signed on our cruise in February. I put a fantastic photo of my DD with Mickey in a frame with the mat, and she sleeps with that pilllow case every night. She doesn't even like for me to wash it because she's afraid the ink will fade! I stood in line with her to get many of the characters' autographs, but those signatures on paper do not inspire the same nostalgia as the items that are on display in our home for us to see every day. I love the AP plate idea and plan to take one to GS with a black Sharpie on our next cruise.

I don't see this as an inconvenience to the CMs and do not feel as if I'm taking advantage of DCL in any way. GS would not have pre-printed forms to fill out if they did not anticipate and approve of this practice. DCL cruises are expensive and they justify the cost, in part, by providing "magical" extras not offered by other lines.

I'm glad to hear that they haven't stopped. I ordered my boys embroidered pillowcases for our Feb. cruise. They will have autograph books for the meet & greets too. This may be the only time that we ever cruise DCL. My parents are paying for it and unfortunately DH does not have a high paying profession which we are OK with but it means that DCL is usually just out of our price range because we can't justify the extra $$ over another cruise line or even a week at WDW. So since this may be the only time I want them to have a really cool souvenir that they will always remember what it's from. So we ordered the embroidered pillowcases with their names, the ship along with the name, and the date for the characters to sign. I think that giving it to GS just makes a lot of sense so that the signatures are neat. I'm sure that they will love it and it will be a keepsake that they hold onto throughout their life.

I think the confusion over whether the characters are paid for the time spent signing items may concern the difference between "on stage" and "on duty" time. There are strict regulations concerning how long a character may remain "on stage," meaning in costume meeting guests, etc. When they go off stage into a break room area, they are still on duty and being paid for their time. However, they do have the freedom to attend to personal needs, etc. during that time. Pluto doesn't need 30 minutes to get a drink and visit the sandbox, so he may spend some of that time placing paw prints on items.

EXCELLENT explanation of the difference kcashner! The CMs are not signing the items 'for free' so to speak. They are being compensated by DCL. BUT the candy is still a nice added bonus for them!! ;)

I have just decided we are going to do placemats. I have not decided on the background picture yet, but it will all be printed per cruise, then the characters sign it with silver and gold sharpies, and we laminate them when we get home!!! Can't wait!! Now the hunt for the "right" picture! It's too bad there is no way if knowing which characters we will get, I could put them all in the picture and have then sign under their picture!

Can you tell me where u ordered the pillowcases from? Thank you :)

I bought mine from a lady on eBay. They came out beautiful! The kids names were embroidered on each with mickey or Minnie heads. I got to pick the thread color for each child. I wish I could remember her name but if you search embroidery pillow case you will see them. :)

Thanks everyone for the updates form folks just coming off the ships! Makes me wonder.... How many of us will get the same answer to the signature question if we all called! Lol ill cross my fingers ill be able to get a shirt signed for my niece (not coming with us, only the DH & I) for Christmas while we're on the cruise!

Off the Magic yesterday.

They did two pillowcases for our stateroom and they did a little request form that counted the number of sharpies. They were returned as well.

Every time we have done this, the form they fill out at GS has had an area for requesting which characters you'd like signatures from. You can have all of them, or just Mickey and Minnie, Mickey/Minnie/Donald/Goofy/Pluto, all the princesses...pretty much any combination. They ask when you drop the items off.

Never done this but thinking about it for January cruise.

What is candy for? CM that signs? What type of candy do y'all bring? You leave it at GS?
