No more signed pillow cases?

My DH called today to see what the limit was on leaving items at GS to be signed and he was told the are no longer doing it! Is this true? Anyone else heard this?

When I called about an excursion question, the gentleman I was speaking to at DCL said "Don't forget to bring a pillowcase to leave at guest services to be signed for your princess." That was today at like 9am. I would bring your items (2 per stateroom) just in case.

Off the Dream two weeks ago and we got two signed pillowcases done for the kids. If they have stopped doing it, it was a very recent change. Can anyone confirm?

I did a plate signature one Nov 3-10th. I only needed the one thing done as we have done so many in the past.... but no issue other than they didn't use the second marker I sent. Turned out great anyhow.

Eek. I hope not. I just ordered embroidered pillowcases for our Easter cruise for Christmas presents. Cannot see this being true. Disney would need to give warning or there would be a lot of others in my position who would be pretty ticked off.

I like the Plate idea.

While it's cool that Disney does this, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets discontinued. The great thing is, even if it does, you can still get most of the signatures yourself by standing in line to see the characters!

Honestly, we did this on our first cruise (and I even knew about dropping off at GS at that time). DD was turning 5 at WDW after departing the cruise, and I made her a birthday t-shirt. We had characters sign it on-board (there was a signing gathering in the atrium on the Wonder) and one of the cast members at the end of the table took the t-shirt and said they'd get more signatures from the characters that weren't there. But really for my DD, the ones that meant the most were the ones who signed the shirt while she was there - the little bit of interaction made it memorable, and at 4 it was like getting a celebrity autograph!

It takes more work, but it's doable. It's not really that bad if you have kids getting pictures or autographs anyway. There might be a few you can't get, but for my DD the experience mad it that much more meaningful.

I'm thinking about just doing that. I don't want to start a debate on dropping stuff off to be signed, so I'll just say I'm a tad uncomfortable asking them to do it. But I'd really like to get a signed photo matte. When I was in Chef Mickey's last time, there was a woman at the table next to me getting one signed and it looked fantastic!

I purchased one of the blank 9" vinylmations to leave for signatures. I'm on the Fantasy in two weeks. Hopefully the CM was misinformed.

I had a 9 inch Vinylmation signed on the November 10th cruise on the Magic. I have another one at home that I hope to get signed by the princesses next year.

I'm not an expert, but I've never seen characters sign anything larger than an autograph book. I'm sure it has been done, but the reason I mention is it because there's usually not a stable place for characters to sign. For example, Goofy balanced my DD's autograph book on his nose (if you can picture how that would work!). So several of the autographs were a little "sloppy." My DD doesn't care because, hey, who is she to judge about handwriting! ;). But seriously, if you're planning on displaying it and want perfect signatures, you might just give it to GS. I'm totally with you on not wanting to impose or take advantage of CM's time, but in this case I think it's the best option. And I think DCL understands that. It also makes their character lines move faster because they have it down to a science on the ships!

Happy sailing!

Hmm, that's a good point. The woman's matte at the table next to us looked pretty good though. Maybe she had gotten all her signatures at the restaurants.

I guess either way it would be an inconvenience. Seriously, I wish they just sold them! Or at least let me pay for it if they are going to do it. I don't want to drop off a bag of candy. I'd rather just hand the cash.

No, not really. This is an extra thing that a lot of people do not even know about. People find out about it on cruise message boards , BLOGS, and here on Dis (well, probably on facebook now too).

As word spreads....I could totally see them stopping it, OR adding a fee to have it done.

I think people forget how many folks cruise DCL that have NOTHING to do wit Dis or cruise message boards.

I really don't understand the appeal of signatures to anyone other than a child meeting the characters. C'mon folks - your items are being signed by people. Different people. Normal people. Might as assign a character to each member of your family and pass a photo mat around for all to sign.

Little kids getting sigs from live characters I do understand as I did that myself 30 odd years ago. But I really just don't see what's magical about asking CMs to sign a bunch of stuff out of sight and out of costume.

I want the photo matte signed because I think they look great and plan to put a family photo from our vacation in it. It has nothing to do with wanting something "magical". I don't care how it gets signed. I'd be just as happy to buy one pre-signed and massed reproduced. The characters each have their own signature which I think adds to the look. Mickey's signature looks the same and those CMs practice that. I doubt my family could replicate that. :P So for the photo matte, that is the appeal for me.

I'm uncomfortable dropping it off at Guest Services to get signed because I've seen the rumors that they don't get paid for that. I would happily do it if I could pay. I know they have a ticket you fill out and all that, but I'm still uncomfortable without knowing for sure.

I do live here so maybe I will just schedule in some restaurants. "Hey honey, let's go spend $200 a meal so I can get my photo matte done and not inconvenience Disney employees." Yeah, that sounds like a good excuse. :rotfl2:

I don't quite get the pillowcase thing, but I could see why a child might like it. Personally, if my child wanted that we would just go directly to the characters since I think it would be more magical. But to each their own and I could see why people want to surprise their kids. Personally, my own kid could care less about autographs anyway so we don't bother.

The photo frame is for ME, lol. I just don't want to inconvenience anyone to do it. I really wish they sold them. I think they look very nice when I see them.

Here is one I Googled

I would imagine it will stop at some point, too. A few someones will ruin it for everyone by complaining about the number of signatures or the placement of signatures or something and then demand Disney reimburse them for their item.

I've already seen complaints on the boards about not getting sharpies back and such.

Yes. It sounds like this was something undisclosed and a little 'extra'. But now as more and more people hear about it, and start to get the 'entitled' thing that I read about elsewhere, it will probably stop.
Just one of those things.

I have previous autograph books, and the signatures are easy to forge! If you don't want to have the memory of getting the signature, they'd be easy to fake!
