I was reading the newest AllEars e-newsletter tonight, and a poster reported that they had just returned from WDW and found that the prime rib has been removed from the Boma buffet. When they asked management, they were told the prime rib had been replaced at all WDW buffets with "roasted strip loin" because it is a healthier cut of meat. I am not sure if this was posted before -- sorry if it has -- but I didn't remember seeing it.

Let's all trash the Surgeon General! :)

SAY ITS A LIE....A DAM LIE!!!!!

I leave for Disney tomorrow and I have 4 Prime Rib meals planned. Each one was cooked with different spices!!!

I love Prime Rib. Please please tell me it is still there!!

Roasted Strip Loin as a replacement....you might as well replaced it with Captain Hook's Boots! pirate:

There are so many other Healthy choices one can make at a buffet please for the love of the mouse leave the Prime Rib alone.

First you take the crab legs from Coral Reef, then the concourse steakhouse, and now this. Whats next, no more character dining.

Um, yah, I'm afraid so
Beginning January 5, 2009, the Magic Kingdom's Liberty Tree Tavern will no longer offer character dining. The last character dinner at the Tavern will be on January 4, 2009.

Really? I consider that good news -- I think there has been a dearth of good sit-down, non-character dining options inside the Magic Kingdom.

We were there in late Oct and Boma and Cape May had the prime rib on the menu....I am so bummed if it is removed from Cape May because it was incredible

Sorry, but its 100% true. Disney reservations planned this long in advance. They changed the description of the disney buffets to saying "sliced beef" or so people who made reservations 180 days out couldn't complain. Disney was suppose to lose the prime rib a couple months ago, but they got one last large order in, and that extended the prime rib a month or two.

We all know it was due to cost reasons, but I've heard from my insiders that the chefs are saying, "its a better slice of meat anyway!"

One reason I booked Cape May was so that my husband could enjoy the prime rib -- probably his all time favorite -- and when I read about this I was upset for him. I'm sure this isn't the last time we'll hear of cost-cutting moves by Disney!

I've just posted about this with information from executive chef Lenny DeGeorge.
The official line is that it's a quality issue -- prime rib isn't meant to be sliced in small pieces, which is how it's done on a buffet. But, yes, strip loins are cheaper than standing rib roasts. Still, you can find big slabs of PR at other restaurants on property, just not Boma anymore.

Yup. I've noticed that the PR on the buffets tastes more like roast beef than PR. So this decision doesn't bother me too much. I'm glad that WDW isn't bannishing it altogether and I can still get it at YC.

Some places still have it??

I have the following ADR's and I ma hoping for some nice rare Prime Rib:

Boma
1900 Park fare
Chef Mickeys
Cape May

Flight leaves in 18 hours!

No frickin way! I hope they will at least keep the horseradish cream so I can "pretend" it's still prime rib.

1) As I understand it, Prime Rib is gone.
2) Everywhere.
3) It is a simple matter of cost savings.
4) All the other excuses do not "wash".

Very sad about this. I got the dining plan so that my husband could have the prime rib. He doesn't really like going to Disney and this is one way I can get him to go with fewer complaints. Maybe he won't notice. Ha.

It will still be good, not worth changing ADR's over. I'm all for this change.
