No More Opt-In Mousekeeping?

For members who do split stays. even if just changing rooms at the same resort, they effectively get a complete cleaning. We usually do 4 nights at an Epcot resort, and then 4 nights at a MK resort, and are glad housekeeping never enters either room until after we check out, so we also will not miss the option at all.

ETA: I saw on the Link from the first post that someone posted that daily trash service was still included. I do not think that is the case. I do not think we have ever had our trash emptied during a 4 night stay, and we do not put out the DND hanger when we leave the room.

I agree with you. I wonder how many actually paid for it anyway. For me, getting new towels when I need them is all I need or want.

I agree. The only things I need is new towels. I change my towels often at home so the 1 bedrooms are perfect for doing a laundry of towels between changing. With most of our stays, we usually decline the full cleaning.

But I do think that if some people want it, they should be able to pay for it. I know a few people we met during our stays that insisted that they wouldn't stay in a hotel if it wasn't clean fully each day. I'm okay if they pay for this service instead of coming out of my pocket.

We always do. I have been 4 times since October and our trash was taken daily. We have been at BCV, BWV, BLT, VGF and RIV so a lot Of resorts.

I guess I fall into the "regardless of how you paid for it, and what you call it, it's a hotel room and I like room service" school of thought. I'm cool with it not being a "standard" service, but I do like the idea of having access to it, at a reasonable price.

I am guessing this may not be a permanent change. Some may have noticed that the online check-in options for cash stays through Disney now have the guest choosing between having daily service only every second day or no daily service, and the service provided is itself referred to as a "light" cleaning service. This is what the on-line check-in options now say for housekeeping choices:

Housekeeping Service
Prior to your arrival, your room will undergo thorough cleaning.
Throughout your stay, you’ll receive light cleaning service every other day (if you’re a Disney Vacation Club Member using your Membership to stay, you’ll receive service on the 4th and 8th days). Or, you can decline this service.

I'd like service every other day
(or service on the 4th and 8th days, if you're a Disney Vacation Club Member using your Membership)

I'd like to decline service

(There are boxes online that you can check for either choice.) In essence, Disney is not even cleaning every day for cash guests. What that and the awful phone service for DVC, and to a great extent non-DVC Disney, indicate is that Disney is suffering from the same problem many other companies, including a lot of resort-area hotel operations, are suffering from right now -- a labor shortage due to a lot of previously laid-off workers not returning, at least not yet.

Adding: the Disney site now sets out the "light" housekeeping service provided every other day for cash quests at its hotels, including vacuuming only if needed and no mention of making up the beds https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/housekeeping-service/

Is anyone else puzzled by this decision? People like to complain about the new trend of "upcharges," but in this instance they're removing an upcharge. I hope it comes back once they get their staffing sorted out.

A bigger issue in housekeeping is that immigration remains largely frozen, with the federal government still refusing to issue most types of work visas. This is why we still have no cultural representatives around the World Showcase, Animal Kingdom, and Animal Kingdom Lodge, but it also contributes to Disney's tremendous difficulty getting housekeepers and line cooks.

I was there (OKW) for the month of July and two weeks at the end of Aug/Sept. Trash was entered 95% of the days.

We just stayed at VGC. I got am email on checkout day thanking us for our stay and offering online checkout which I did. It asked what time we’d be out of our room with a drop down menu with choices every half hour from 8-11.

I prefer not to have any housekeeping when we are there. Just don't care to have anyone else in the room when we aren't there. Only takes a minute or two to make a bed & we are used to picking up after ourselves. I'm OK if all they do is drop off new towels when that's scheduled

For me, this is one of the more benign changes. Getting extra housekeeping is expensive, IMO. Would only ask for it if we had a "guest change" during our stay.

Wonder how many others feel the same way? Honestly, I don't think it will affect all that many DVC Members.
We feel same way.We prefer nobody in our room. I bring extra garbage bags and drop it at the trash room. I do hope they continue to allow us to call and request extra shampoo etc …

I don’t think all the intermediate light cleanings in the world will take care of the chips under the bed, or the Fritos in the closet.
My two favorites:
1) this happened to us on our first DVC stay…
We pulled down the comforter and saw a giant urine stain on the underneath side.
2) this one I read about here…
Someone opened the oven and found a roast.
Did they mention if the roast was moist or dry and unedible?

I am sure they " make money" on the upcharge for the extra cleanings. The problem is they don't have enough staff as it is to do the required cleanings to turn the rooms over to new guests in a timely manner.

My big question is: What are the alternatives? Are local maid services allowed to come in the rooms? If we're supposed to do all the cleaning ourselves, will we have all the tools? Vacuum cleaner, toilet scrubbers, bathtub cleaners, etc. etc.

Not all of my guests have a tolerance for uncleanliness, so I'm a bit worried this is going to impact their experience :(

(Speaking from inexperience here... We haven't yet stayed longer than a couple nights in a DVC property - THANKS COVID!!)

There are none As far as I know. But, those that stay on DVC points should always be told of the difference in terms of how often they come so it’s not expected upfront.

In the few times I have booked rooms for friends, I made sure they know its a timeshare and not a hotel and therefore, things are done differently.

Sorry

I get "doing things differently." But my question is very specific: how do you get your room cleaned if Disney isn't doing it, no one else can come clean it, and there isn't a vacuum cleaner & other tools in the room to do it yourself?

It gets cleaned in between guests- other than comical or frustrating misses. You have a vacuum if you need it during your stay

The rooms always had vacuums. I think you have to ask if you want one since covid but they will bring it to you.

Other than that, if you want you things cleaned like the bathroom and sink? I guess you bring your own things if staying 7 nights or less?

8 nights or more gets the cleaning day 4. And, you can call and get as many extra towels and things as you need

Less than 8 you get only trash and towel service. So I guess if you have guests who are expecting hotel level of service, it’s not even going to be a paid option any longer.

It is probably due to staffing but I bet it wasn’t used that often anyway..not enough they were worried about ending it.
