Just a heads up

http://www.wdwmagic.com/Resorts/Wal...tiple-reservations-for-the-same-timeframe.htm

This appears to now be official Disney policy and a few people have already reported that their multiple ADRs have been cancelled by the system. This has happened in the past, rather randomly, but the general consensus was that it seemed that CM's who spotted conflicting reservations were doing so manually - no evidence to support or contradict this though. It looks like the 'window' they are using is somewhere around 2 hours.

Anyhow, the positive of this is that it should be easier to secure reservations with this in place.

That's definitely a move in the right direction, but I don't suppose it'll deter those determined to do it. What's to stop someone booking a restaurant in the name of each person in their party? And, looking at it from another point of view, I guess the multiple bookings make it easier to get in as a walk up which is good for those who aren't Disney savvy, and those (like me) who break out in a cold sweat at the thought of having to book every meal in advance. :scared: :teeth:

I am with you all the way on this one. And yes, this apparently came into effect the day before yesterday and already there are reports that many who have been struggling to secure a particular reservation are finding availability so this new policy is being met, by most, with open arms. No doubt they will find a way to close the loopholes eventually, but I am very pleased about this. :)

EDIT TO ADD: I meant to add that, for anyone who posts on the Restaurant forums, any discussion on ways around the system will be viewed as a violation of DIS posting guidelines as this is now official Disney policy.

Wow - I had no idea people even did this?

Why would they do it? :confused3

Is it so they can have 2 ADR's made and then on the day of their holiday just decide which to go to? Unless I've misunderstood why they do it - that's just wrong! :sad2:

my adrs i was making a few weeks back came up with this, i had ones booked and was looking for better times and it meant i could cancel at the time of booking the new one

so much better

I am all for them doing something to cut out this problem but I hope they don't start cancelling bookings without warning. I have booked all our meals for August for 2 families all in my name, some together, some separate so we have multiple booking for the same time, same name but they are genuine.

Yeah we had to move one of ours due to Fantasmic and I thought I better make sure I cancel the one I didn't want anymore, and it did it for me!

Wayne it looks, from the reports so far, that the system generates a warning when you make the ADR and simply cancels the exisiting one in that time frame if you proceed with confirming the new one.

The only criticism so far is exactly what you refer to - parties who choose to split up for some meals.

It is not likely that they will cancel the old ones. It looks like the system has been setting the stage for this for a while now by 'warning' guests that there is a conflict. I think there would be a huge outcry if ADRs were cancelled without prior notice and I am guessing that yours were made too early for this to have taken effect.

Here's hoping logic prevails in this one ..... (it's always a bit hit and miss with Disney)

I do wonder how they are going to get around people in a situation like yours. :confused3 Most parties travelling in a large group or with a range of ages/interests have this at least once during a trip.

The warnings have been there a while, I got them back in Feb when I made our reservations, gave me the option to cancel original or keep both.
I can't see how they can do it any different. Its no different to any restaurant, I have a reservation for Saturday evening, I could book elsewhere also and not turn up to one of them.
Only way is to take a deposit refundable if 24 or 48 hours notice is given, some would probably still do it but would cut out most.

Deposit could work. Although then you are back to the issues with the dining plan .....

I was thinking, say they took a refundable deposit. Family of 4 goes for 21 days. Let's say they take a nominal amount of $10 per head per ADR (I don't think Disney thinks in terms of such nominal amounts so this is being conservative). 21 ADRs at $40 deposit for each is a whopping $840 for the trip :scared1:

At the end of the day, there is always going to be a loophole and there will always be people who find a way through it. But the new system will at least act as a deterent.

They do already take a credit card hold for some restaurants and your card is charged if you do not show up and don't cancel at least 24/48 hrs in advance.

I am sure this could be rolled out across the board - at least people would have to cancel giving others the shot at the reservation.

It hadn't occurred to me that people make dozens more reservations than they actually need just to give them choice on the day. That is so selfish!

I think this is a great idea and was probably necessary with the online ADR system.

This seems to have worked in our favour - perhaps :confused3

I've been searching for a Fantasmic package meal for August with no luck. Based on this thread, I thought I would have another search and BINGO, lunch at Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic package :thumbsup2

Really pleased  as we did the same package in April and had a lovely meal at MM. Also managed to book a lunch at Le Cellier, hadn't searched for this previously but think I was pretty lucky as this seems to be a popular choice :thumbsup2

Ali :goodvibes
