No more half yards in UK!!

Wow, first the reduced menu and now this?

Glad I got my half yard last March. Sad I wont be able to do it again.

Just because a waitress said people were getting drunk on the half yard doesn't mean that's actually the reason. More likely its just what the CM though sounded good.

befor you reach the bottom gentely twist in a clockwise direction and keep turnning, this stops the bubble from cascadeing down on you. A proper yard of ale has 2 and a 1/2 pints in it.:thumbsup2

That's 2.5 UK pints which are slightly larger than US pints :)

OK, so EVEN if this was the case, which I understand since I take quite a few cruises and they do not want anyone refilling their water bottles with juice, water, icetea and lemonaid from the self-serve stands for this reason, why not just serve us the beer in the yards without refills?:surfweb:

They do seem popular. I see loads of people drinking them every time I go to Epcot. I don't see why not just do what you said and stop the refills and keep the yards.

The drunkeness thing is a total BS answer. If I remember correctly those half yards only held about 24 oz., and now they are selling 22 oz. glasses. BIG difference in size! Please. It's all about the $$$.

I did post about this in the beer thread about a week ago. The story I got from the senior bartender there is that the FLA Board of Health have been after them for a few years since they say refills are unsanitary as the non-cleansed half yard comes in contact with the tap heads and this is why they shut it down...sounds plausible to me.

I thought the alcohol would kill any bacteria!:lmao:

I totally agree with you! Although in fairness to the waitress that may be the story or gossip she heard.

Too many people were getting drunk ..... and they weren't making money from it! They're just trying to force you to pay for more beer - plain and simple. Just another example of more fun being sucked out of the Disney experience!:sad2:

What's fun about getting sloshed at a family park? I do not understand someone wanting to drink that much beer at any time during the day while they're with their families. If you're at home, go for it and drink as much as you want until you pass out. If you're in the middle of a family oriented theme park, knock 1 or 2 regular sized beers out to get you by and then save up for later. I'm glad they did away with the half yards. It would be cool if they sold the half yard container only with no beer for souvenirs though.

I wonder if this isn't the reason why they're doing away with the half yard...not enough people can master the technique, making a lot more work for the cleanup crew!;)
So, these things are a pint and a quarter, since they're a half-yard? That's not so much to miss, if they're offering up a pint in an easier-to-handle stein...I think I can handle that.
Those of you who think this will ruin their trip if they can't spill beer all over the front of themselves...bring your half-yard from last trip, and fill it up from the glass, then spill to your heart's content.
