Disney Sues Dish Network to Block Sling TV’s Short-Term ‘Passes,’ Alleging They Violate Distribution Agreement

Sling TV, the internet TV service owned by Dish Network, two weeks ago introduced a suite of new packages that let you sign up to get a little as 24 hours of live TV, or pay for just one weekend or one week.

Disney and ESPN have now cried foul — saying the new Sling packages violate the terms of the media company’s programming distribution agreements. Disney filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Dish in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeking to have the three services remove Disney’s networks.

Why This Summer’s Box Office Failed to Surpass a Disappointing 2024
This year's $3.7 billion summer offers key takeaways for the industry going forward

This why big film studios, especially Disney, shouldn’t acquire/merge with their competitors, like 20th Century Fox, because then the theatrical slate from the acquired studio gets reduced.

Just the new normal for the box office. Instead of being a few highly successful films like Inside Out 2, and Deadpool were last summer, this summer was more spread out but about the same amount of dollars spent by the audience.

Wow, WB is really back in the game...too bad their stock reflects none of that good news. (Still bitter at AT&T for foisting that penny stock on it's shareholders)😭
WB is also basically done for the year. They have two movies this month and that’s it. They moved Mortal Kombat 2 to 2026.

Universal will pass with their upcoming slate and take the second spot.

Disney will far and away be top earner of the 5 studios for the year.

Add in reports Warner may sell up to 20% stake in their studios and streaming sector as a part of their split.

Well, I'm one of those that will not sign up to a service to watch sports. I enjoy watching sports, but I'm not subscribing to a streaming service to just watch. I know that I watch a lot less of the Premier League now that most of the games are on Peacock, compared when they were shown on regular network tv/cable channels, and due to it unless it is on regular TV and a match I want to watch, I won't even tune in any longer. The same with baseball and if NFL moves more games to streaming it will be less that I watch.

I spend enough already on what we subscribe to when it comes to entertainment (YouTube tv, Disney+ and prime). All these sports are doing is slowly losing someone like me as a customer due to this.

We currently have a Fubo subscription... We don't even think to turn it on... it's ESPN, Disney+, Hulu with a touch of some other services in our house... Every now and then we turn on cable news tv... and then remembered why we quit watching it!
