No More Early Ticket Pickup?

Honestly, I'm not surprised at all that they are still allowing this. My concern is that they are laying the groundwork to discontinue it in the near future, yet none of us knows when it will really happen.

I agree. And I wonder if they will start enforcing it at the start date of the latest free dining promo since it was during booking of those packages that we know at least some CRO agents were giving the "you can't pick up your tickets early" spiel. I just hope no one ends up at a park gate in a couple of months unable to pick up tickets early.

Precisely my concern.

We are booked free dining for Sunday Jan 22. Our original plan was to drive down on Friday Jan 20th but since we couldnt get free dining till Sunday we decided we would leave early sat morning. Plan was to go to the park that afternoon but if we cant get our tix we will just go to DTD. No biggie for us but people that are needing tix 2 or 3 days early might be out of luck.

mom2rtk, I agree with you that it seems the reservation CMs are trying to lay the groundwork for no early ticket pick-up. However, I specifically asked Cheryl if Disney planned to discontinue the service any time within the next few months and she said no, it is a perk to their guests.

So, take it for what it's worth, but I do believe that the reservations CMs are not well informed about this policy. After all, they make the reservations, they don't check you in and they don't work the ticket windows.

I agree with you. Just speaking personally, I don't know if I would risk it when I have already spent $5k+. I think if you are just out one day, you can probably make do - swim at the resort, go to DD, etc. But I don't know if I could risk more than a day.

I agree - and thus the concern of myself and many others. It's still available right now...but will it be available in 2 months? or 6 months? It can't be counted on, that's for sure.

We are working on a back-up plan. One possiblity is to go to Sea World for the day. DW and I were talking this over...why would Disney want to change this policy, and chase people off site? Give me my tickets, and I'll drop a few hundred extra dollars on your property instead of going off-site.

I agree. I think it's very short-sighted on their part. I think we can all asume that NOBODY is going to actually spring for an extra full-price ticket, so Disney won't be increasing revenue that way at all. So that leaves people with only one choice......... going offsite........... with their wallets. It seems pretty short-sighted and honestly.......... pretty petty.

We're lucky it's just our arrival day we're talking about. But it really messes with my touring plan. I had an ADR in the MK and had planned on seeing MSEP and Wishes that night. Since MVMCP runs 4 nights out of 7 we're there, it's hard to fit it in. The park won't hit capacity, so would it really kill them to let us pick up our tickets?

I guess they're trying to train people to actually arrive on the start day of free dining. But they have been starting it on Sunday, and most folks are pretty limited on when they can travel because of work and school schedules. Most are't going to just sit home on Saturday when everyone is off anyway and add an extra Monday on the back end just so they can match up with the promo dates. Do they honestly just want one less day of our cash???????

And sorry. My altenative will NOT be to go to DTD and drop a bunch of cash.

Reservations agents are known for trying to pull BS on guests to get them to buy more than they had planned to. They (like all CMs) are also known for giving false information.

I've been told that CSR was a Value resort (and that I should upgrade to a Mod), that I couldn't use my tickets after my package was over unless I bought the "no expiration" option, and - my personal favorite - that there was no such thing as a restaurant on a boat in DTD.

Nuff said.

Still planning on picking up our tickets a day early and not expecting any trouble.

I really wish I could see something in writing either way. .

Contact WDW through the website and ask the question. They will respond in writing to all questions. If the answer is yes you can get them early print the reply and take it with you. If no plan according.

I already did that... just waiting for a response. I even did it to ticketing information and general information. I'll be sure to post their response when I get them.

My gut says that someone who isn't on these message boards (or some message board) would have never known to do a split stay in the first place.

Actually, because my PIN code starts the day after we arrive at Disney, the reservationists at the CRO have repeatedly explained to me that I CANNOT have my entire stay under one reservation. I have begged and pleaded to put it under one, but they say that the computer simply cannot book a stay that has a price decrease in it.

So, yeah, I would have my @*#& split reservation whether I came here or not.

I just bought my Party for the Senses tickets yesterday for our arrival night. If my $600+ tickets go to waste because I can't get into the park the night before my package officially starts because THEIR reservation computer would not allow a single stay.... Um, I'm going to be upset.

[end vent]

That's what I did and was told no. And there was a "PLEASE NOTE" at the bottom of the email stating that the information was subject to change at anytime and that it needed to be verified just prior to my visit to WDW. So, I take that to mean that even if they had said yes in that email it wouldn't do me a bit of good to take that email with me because they can change their mind "at anytime".

It's not a changing of policy, but of practice. It's enforcing a policy that was already in place. It was only to be allowed in certain instances, and was abused.

I called this morning as we were booked for a room only 10/22-10/23, and were planning on picking up our tickets for our package w/runs 10/23-10/29 with free dining. I was told by a CM in reservations and someone supposedly in guest information that I could NOT pick up my tickets early. Now, I was told when I made my reservation that I could, in fact, pick up a day early...no problem?! I am now on the phone with someone from Guest Relations at the parks and they are telling me YES. WTHeck? I am triple checking and they are saying they can separate the tickets from the package.

Same thing happened to me! I am hoping to get something recorded from the phone or it in writing so they can't argue it when I go in November! They need to get it straight across the board for all employees. It really just depends who you ask!

I'm not surprised by this at all. The latest words we have had from the front lines is that you can indeed do this as of now. But I believe that they are warning people they cannot because they intend to stop letting people do this and are laying the groundwork for this to happen. The problem of course would be knowing WHEN.
