No More DME Baggage Delivery To Resorts

Where are you getting that they're discounting rooms? Other than for AP holders I haven't seen anything. If they are, I sure would like to know and change my resort price.
I thought I read about it on the Dis somewhere.

*shrug* canadians always had to get their luggage and then drag it all to the MDE checkin counter, so who cares?
I gotta agree with you there.

Change is hard. WDW trips for the next several months are going to be very different. The DIS boards are a great place to vent.

I'm going miss the Resort to Airport luggage option far more than the Airport to Resort option. It was always so nice to drop my luggage then head to the parks for a few hours and get back just in time to catch the bus. Now I must factor in the wait at Bell Services. Oh well... everyone going better be prepared for changes or their trip is going to be...

WOW, has it only been a decade and a half? Honestly, it feels like so long ago that we rented a car and grabbed our own luggage lol.
Yep. Original Dining Plan was introduced 1/1/05, and DME started either 5/8/05, or 5/1/05. Looks like a successful year for Disney!

Oh the memories!! We got the Free DDP for the first (but not last) time in 2006. Appie, entree, dessert tax & tip for TS. 4 of us for 9 nights. It was so much food! We left 1TS, 6 CS and 11 SC, just could not eat another bite!

Yeah. Back in those days, people were adding ghost guests on Value reservations (solo traveler adding second adult, couple adding two kids 10-17) to get extra dining credits, so more bang for the buck. I don't remember if free dining plan started in '05 or '06, but at the time you could stack discounts.

Those were the days....

I don’t ever remember being able to stack discounts 🤷‍♀️ And adding phantom people would never have occurred to me! But it was a primo promotion. That first year, I kept all our receipts and we ate about $2000 in free food. Would have been even more if we had managed to use all our credits!

We travel with 2 kiddos in carseats and have to lug those, and we usually have carry ons plus 4 full sized suitcases (we generally stay for 2-3 weeks). If this is still unavailable by November, we will probably try to go directly through Bags Inc. They've quoted $60 to deliver the bags to the hotel. Worth it for us, but I know for many it's just not worth the added expense. It really depends on each family's individual situation.
If my kids were older and we didn't have to lug their seats, we'd probably just grab the bags ourselves.

Everyone’s situation is different but I hate taking a lot of luggage. I do my best to take no more than 1 26” checked bag and a very small carry on. That will take hubby and I through a full week and include 1-2 flatted carry ons for the inevitable souvenirs for the grand kids!

I've read so many frustrating tales on DIS Boards of people's luggage not showing up or it getting delivered to their room literally in the middle of the night that we were planning on picking up our own luggage anyway.

I'm fairness, though, none of the millions of DME guests over the last 15+ years with zero luggage isdues, has apparently ever felt the need to post that.

Disabled and elderly here, and don't travel just to Disney. You make it work. You plan ahead. You budget (if needed) for tips for assistance.
Of course. I didn't say *all* disabled/elderly *only* travel to Disney. But it still will affect a fair number who do. Of that population, there may be some who don't have the resources to identify and pre-arrange assistance for this. Surely anyone can locate assistance upon arrival, but that's not always the easiest or most convenient. In the grand scheme of things, the lack of luggage delivery is not a big deal, but its taking away a perk that I am certain many people relied on when traveling to WDW.

Dragging luggage to Magical Express isn't that much of a hassle. Are there Skycaps at MCO for people who need help?
I feel sorry for the bus drivers who now have to handle all of that heavy luggage.

I have never seen skycaps at the DME drop-off location. Hopefully that will change, with the suspension of bag drop at Disney resorts. I did confirm that Southwest is currently not offering curbside check-in at MCO, but I don’t know about the other carriers. So, if using other means of transportation to MCO, and being dropped off at Departures, be aware that you may need to check in at your airline’s counter inside the airport; so allow enough time.
