No More DME Baggage Delivery To Resorts

Dragging luggage to Magical Express isn't that much of a hassle.
I'm just envisioning two parents with 3+ small kids, strollers, carry-ons, maybe car seats trying to navigate from their gate in A terminal, down to first floor baggage claim, back up to the atrium now with an additional 3-5+ suitcases, all the way across the atrium to B terminal, down to the ground floor and all the way down the hall to DME. I would consider that to be a hassle.

Its also a decent walk while pulling heavy luggage for a single able-bodied person who only has to worry about his or her self. Yes, that's par for the course when traveling anywhere else, but it was always an added perk to not worry about that while staying on-site at Disney. It helped to reconcile the on-site cost, but that can no longer be considered when weighing the value.

I just read it’s starting jan 1. Is there no magical express at all or just the luggage part?

On Know Before You Go which has most updated information it is NOT showing that Magical Express is starting luggage delivery on January 1st. Even on the booking site for Magical Express it states there is NO LUGGAGE DELIVERY.
Disney Resort Hotel Guest Benefits
During the initial reopening period, some benefits may be modified or unavailable.
Disney’s Magical Express® Service
Complimentary airport transportation via Disney’s Magical Express service is available for Guests arriving at and departing from Orlando International Airport. Disney's Magical Express service will no longer provide luggage delivery for those arriving at and departing from the airport.
Guests who choose to use Disney’s Magical Express service will be responsible for picking up any of their checked luggage from the airport’s baggage claim area, so that it can be loaded onto the motorcoach to their Disney Resort hotel. Please know that your luggage will travel with you to your Disney Resort hotel.
Luggage assistance will be available at the front of your Disney Resort hotel, including luggage storage and/or transport to the room.
Upon your departure, please ensure your luggage is with you and is loaded onto the motorcoach, so you can check it in with your airline once you reach the airport. The resort airline check-in service is no longer available.
Many airlines have modified their flight schedules, so please confirm your flight information. If you plan to use Disney’s Magical Express service, contact your room reservation booking agent or call the Disney Reservation Center to make any updates to your flight information on file.

The only thing coming back as of Jan 1st that I have heard is park hopping. Magical Express has been offered consistently since the parks re-opened, but luggage service with DME and Resort Airline Check-In have been temporarily suspended with no return date noted as of yet, to my knowledge.

“Its a haul. We fly Southwest which lands on the A side of the airport, along with several other major domestic carriers. We have to go down to level 2 to baggage claim, then back up to level 3, cross the large atrium in the middle where security is to go over to the B side of the airport, then down to level 1 where ground transportation is, then walk all the way to the end of the hall where DME is. Its just DH and I with one standard rolling suitcase each, but my arm is about ready to fall off by the time I make it to DME. I can't imagine how families with kids, elderly, or disabled will do it. “

This is what I’m most anxious about with our next trip! I’ve never had to get our luggage at MCO and I have no idea where I’m going. We fly southwest too, and I’m nervous we’ll miss it coming out of baggage claim if we get lost trying to find the right area. Do I get on the tram first, then down to level 2?!

It would be helpful to look at a map of MCO to get an idea. Its not a difficult airport to navigate, luckily. On SWA, you'll land on the A terminal side. You'll need to walk down the terminal and board the tram to get to the main building where security, baggage claim, airline counters, etc. are. Boarding the tram is the only option so you can't get lost in the terminal. Once you arrive at the main building from the tram, you'll follow the signs to baggage claim for Southwest. After you get your bags, you want to go back up to floor 3 where you came from, cross through that sunny atrium to the B terminal, and then go down to floor 1 for ground transportation. DME is at the end of the hall. There's some signage throughout the airport and I think any airport employee should be able to point you as well. Or, follow fellow passengers that look like they're going to WDW - you'll know them when you see them :)

Frankly, if you're nervous about it and have a lot of luggage to tote, it might be worth it to book a car service like Tony Hinds. Tony (and his competitors) will meet you at baggage claim and provide luggage assistance, and will escort you out a door very close to baggage claim where they are parked. It would alleviate any nerves about navigating the airport, and also give you help with luggage and minimize walking. Tony charges a flat rate and has a 12 passenger van with car seats upon request. His prices are on par with taxis typically.
