No Longer coming to you Live from Disney World! Take 3 DDW'S TAMBU LOUNGE 8/6

Minnie is located at dhs between sorcerer Mickey and wreck it Ralph.

There is a room with roping and movie posters on the wall.

Minnie is not visible if you walk by as she is in a room. They allow one family at a time for photos.

The next set of reviews in our line up from Saturday, Dec. 7 are from our lunch. Due to a series of events, I'm going to start us out on this one. Keep in mind that I am the back-up's back-up for the leader of this review, so it might not be up to snuff but here it goes...

After our breakfast at Crystal Palace, Brenda, Em, Beth and I left Magic Kingdom and headed to Animal Kingdom. But first we made a quick stop at Animal Kingdom Lodge to see the holiday decorations there.

The tree was very beautiful, but the best part of our visit to AKL was that we met up with Vicki (GoofySon'sMom) there. She had finally arrived at Disney World!!! :woohoo:

The five of us then went on to Animal Kingdom, where we were joined by Paula & Hunter for our lunch at...

Unfortunately I don't have a group photo from our lunch at Yak & Yeti, but hopefully one of my six dining companions remembered to take one. :)

Here are some menu pics...

And the cocktail menu...

From this I chose...

I've had this cocktail before and again I really enjoyed it. It was sweet and fruity and went down quite easily...even with a weird paper straw. ;)

NOTE: The menu photos are actually from my March 2013 visit to Yak & Yeti and show the cocktail prices as $7.99. However, my bill from December shows that I was charged $8.99 for my drink, so I guess there has been a price increase.

I haven't yet found an entrée at Yak & Yeti that "wows" me, so I was tempted to play it safe and just order a couple of appetizers that I know I like (the egg rolls and pot stickers). But instead I decided to try an entrée that I had not had here before...

Kobe Beef Burger - 10 oz. grilled American Kobe beef burger, sesame-soy mayonnaise, and crispy shoestring fries.
Topped with choice of shiitake mushrooms and scallion compote or Asian slaw (I chose the mushrooms and scallion compote).

A look underneath the bun...

And one more, which shows the mushrooms and scallion compote (brought to me in a cup)...

I had high hopes for this, but sadly was a bit disappointed. While I can't deny that it was a good burger, for me it just wasn't worth the $18.99 price tag. :sad2: If the mushroom compote had been to my liking, it might have changed my opinion of this burger. But unfortunately, the compote tasted like pure garlic...strong enough to repel the entire "vampire" bat population of Animal Kingdom. :p While I love garlic (I am half Italian after all ;) ), this much garlic overwhelmed the natural good flavor of the beef rather than enhancing it.

But all was not lost because I still had dessert to look forward to...

Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey-vanilla drizzle

I shared this with Beth and had no problem finishing my skewer. As always, the wontons were the highlight of my meal at Yak & Yeti. :thumbsup2

NOTE: The March price of the wontons was $7.99 but in December they were $8.99.

One more thing to add, although Yak & Yeti does not accept Tables of Wonderland it does give a 10% Annual Passholder discount on entrees only. So I received a $1.90 discount on my $18.99 entrée , bringing the price of my burger down to around $17.00. Hmmm :scratchin...nope, still not worth it. ;)

Hmmm. if only we could have added the wonton dessert to Flying Fish! I want to try those wonton skewers so bad but like you, none of the entrees appeal to me!

I didn't know you were half italian! I lol'ed at your bat comment! Hahah

And yes to everyone the Minnie picture is in the Animation studio tucked away hidden. Great spot to meet up though!

Thanks for the kind words all. I got to watch the memorial tonight on live tv since I can't be there for my aunt and uncle. The viewing is tomorrow and the funeral Saturday. so sad!

Brenda's Yak & Yeti Lunch Review

Let me just start my part of this review by saying that I will never turn down an opportunity to dine at Yak & Yeti - especially when the offer is extended to dine with this group of Disers! Yak & Yeti has quickly become a favorite when hanging around AK. Keep in mind that I’ve never ordered an actual entrée at this place, just appetizers. Contrary to Barb’s experience, I must have found what suites my tastes at Y&Y and have not ventured away from those items. Therefore, my review will look very similar to past experiences.

We were seated upstairs... this is how I know....
DSCN6915.jpg

Perhaps my opinion of Y&Y is skewed by the fabulous pina colada which has been my drink of choice for the last few trips. I agree with Barb, the weird paper straw is not ideal. Add to that the fact that it is about 1/2” too short for the glass and it leaves me tipping the entire glass upside down to get to the contents at the bottom.

Pina Colada ($8.99)

DSCN6922.jpg

Before the food arrived we posed for a few photos.
DSCN6925.jpg

DSCN6927.jpg

DSCN6924.jpg

For my “entrée” I ordered the always delicious pork pot stickers appetizer and a side of pork egg rolls. Hmmm… I see a pork trend here.

Pork Pot Stickers: Pan seared or steamed (these look to be the seared variety) with soy lime dipping sauce ($8.99)
DSCN6934.jpg

Pork Egg Rolls: with chili plum dipping sauce ($5.99)

DSCN6949.jpg

I LOVED both of these. I can’t decide which I like better…. Since I don’t have to choose we’ll just declare them both winners. Note, a side is 2 egg rolls while an appetizer portion is 3 egg rolls.

Em tried a new item off the menu, the Veggie Lo Mein and a side of steamed veggies. This was entirely too much food for one little person. She couldn’t get any help from me since I’d already had my fill of egg rolls and pot stickers. Needless to say, she liked expanding her horizons and may look to share this next time but it was good.

Vegetable Lo Mein: Lo Mein noodles, carrots, cabbage, green onion, and bean sprouts ($17.99)
DSCN6945.jpg

Side of Stir Fried Veggies ($4.99)
DSCN6942.jpg

As for the stir fried veggies, I believe Em was trying to maximize the nutritional value of lunch with an extra dose of vitamins and minerals.
Next up was dessert because, NOOOOO we never pass on dessert here. The same as Barb, Em and I split the fried wontons. Always AWESOME!

Fried Wontons: Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons with vanilla ice cream and honey vanilla drizzle ($8.99)
DSCN6953.jpg

And another photo since these are just so lovely!
DSCN6952.jpg

I’m still a fan of Yak & Yeti!

Following lunch we made our way towards Africa to view the parade. I think we did a 360 of the park and ended up where we started for our viewing spot. Here's a few photos from the back side of the Tree of Life.

I'm sorry Rachel :(

Nice reviews of Yak and Yeti. I've never eaten there, and can't say that I am all that enticed by the entrees....however, those wontons for dessert look so good! Might have to try it out one day just for those! :thumbsup2

Great reviews ladies! But I have to say that I am not a fan of Y&Y. We dined there once and it just wasn't to my liking. I would prefer to dine at the counter service place right out side for a lot cheaper and we share the honey chicken, an order of FF and one desert between the four of us and it is just the right amount. Of course, drinks from around the corner are in order here as well! ;)

And, I love all the group photos of you!

This was my second time to Yak and Yeti. I went with something new:
Mandarin Chicken Salad - chilled chicken, romaine and iceburg lettuce, Mandarin oranges, almonds, sesame seeds, rice noodles and plum dressing $15.99

This salad was huge and had a ton of chicken in it. I had them put the dressing on the side since I don't like it when salads are soaked with dressing. It was a good salad

But then I tried something I have never had

the fried wontons...mmmm, this was fantastic and I am very glad Barb and I agreed to share it

It was a good lunch and a fun group but I was a little sad they do not accept TIW !

Wow, I must have zoned out for a bit at Yak & Yeti because I didn't even notice that you ordered my two favorite apps there, Brenda. Probably a good thing I didn't notice though, because I would have had to steal one of each from your plates. ;) While I probably could have gotten away with nabbing a pot sticker, I think you would have noticed when one of your two egg rolls went missing.

Anyway, I've learned my lesson now. Next time I go to Yak & Yeti I will go back to ordering a Shanghai Express, my two favorite apps, and the wontons for dessert. If I do try something new here again, it will be a Pina Colada. Your's looked yummy! :thumbsup2

While I haven't found an entree there that I would recommend, I do like their cocktails, apps, and of course the wonton dessert. So I say go for it! :thumbsup2

Thanks Chris! I have had lunch at the Y & Y counter service place once, but it has been a few years. I do remember that I liked the food there though. If I weren't hooked on the wonton dessert, I too would probably ditch the restaurant in favor of the cheaper place next door. ;)

Btw, I have to ask...what is the order of FF that you get there? Do they have french fries? :confused3

Hey everyone
Firstly - Rachel, sending my best wishes to you and your family, such a tragedy
Great reviews of Y&Y everyone, love the group photos next to the tree of life :)

Good Afternoon Everyone!! I was the original lead for our Y&Y meal but due to being out of town when it was time to post I passed this honor on and then due to other circumstances it was passed on again so Barb was kind enough to get it started!!

Hunter and I had changed resorts this morning so even though I thought we had left plenty of time we were still running a bit late. The rest of the group had arrived but we were informed where they were seated so we made our way upstairs to join them. Thankfully we weren’t TOO late!!

Since I was the original lead I did get some pictures of the current menu. I’m not sure anything actually changed (except the prices!)

And you don’t realize how small the menu looks till you are back home and not able to read it so I apologize for that!!

The group picture compliments of my Husband!
ry%3D400

We started with the Egg Rolls. Ours was the appetizer portion but we had already dug into one of them!
ry%3D400

We love these!

For an entrée we went with the Honey Chicken. This is a standby for us as well!
ry%3D400

Due to Hunter’s seafood allergy our food is cooked in separate oil sometimes this means things are great and others not so much. I felt that this time the chicken was excellent! We really enjoy these items!!

Hunter is not a fan of cream cheese and I tried the wontons on a solo trip and I wasn’t a fan so we did pass on dessert.

We concluded our meal and then went and had some PhotoPass pics taken. We then split from the group and went to use FP+ for the Safari!

We were supposed to meet up with the group for the Parade but it had already started when we got off the Safari and we weren’t able to see anyone else as we headed out of the park. I texted the group to let them know that we were going to head out to get ready for dinner…

I finally joined the group! My flight was uneventful and the ME bus was waiting when I got there. Off to Pop where my room was not ready but it was Ok as I just wanted to get moving and meet everyone at the AKL!

From there we were off to AK! Yak & Yeti is one of my very favorites and I was very glad that it was part of our trip. I had met Brenda, Em & Barb before but this was my first time meeting Beth and Paula & Hunter. So very honored to meet everyone!

For lunch I knew I wanted those wontons so I decided on two appetizers and I shared some with Em ...

The crispy fried green beans -

And the Lettuce Cups ...

Both were just as good as always. The beans were perfectly crisp and not at all greasy.

Oh, and I had to have the green apple sake!

And of course for dessert ...

This is truly my favorite dessert on Disney property. The warm cream cheese, crispy wontons, creamy sauce and sweet fruit. It is perfect!

A wonderful meal ... great food with great friends!

After lunch we made a very large circle around the Park to end up just about right where we started to watch Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade. This is truly my favorite Disney parade and I would have gone myself but when I mentioned it Brenda & Barb were kind enough to add it to the groups plans. We were joined by DisneyKidForLife (Rob). I don't have any pictures of us, but I think Brenda does ... here are my favorites from the Parade ...

Who doesn't love Baloo?

A Partridge in a Pear Tree!

And to wrap up AK, on our way out, Brenda, Em. Barb & I stopped for another photopass pic ...

I had to head back to POP to check in to my room before meeting everyone for dinner! I was really looking forward to dinner because I Linda & Phillip and Patty & Emme were joining us!

Rachel, I'm so, so sorry about your family's loss! I live in Ohio and as you know, it's a big deal here. My daughters' schools prayed for them as well and of course, all the flags are flown at half-staff. What a heartbreaking story. All are in my prayers.

Thanks to one of Brenda's prior reviews, my DD and I had the wonton dessert at Yak and Yeti a couple of weeks ago on our Marathon trip. I'm not a huge dessert person, but I like to try Disney desserts. I think it was the best dessert of all time! The rest of the food we had was pretty good, but the dessert wontons were sooo delightful! Makes me smile to see the photos of them. :goodvibes

Rachel, I am very sorry to hear that one of the lost firemen was your relative. The tragedy was in our daily news. Firemen do so much more then fight fires, they risk their lives going into a burning home to check for occupants, they have been to our home plenty of times to help me and my wheelchair bound husband and we did not even have a fire. When a firefighter does not come back to the station it is a very sad day. I so respect everyone of the firemen at the station at the top of our street. I pray your family can find comfort in knowing everyday he went to work he was a hero in so many ways.

Before we move on... here's the only photos that I have of the AK parade with our Diser group.

i still hadn't met up with the other ladies yet. we were moving to our new hotel room at the boardwalk and met up with rachel & corey. after sorting our room, we headed to boardwalk bakery for a little snack.

i stopped here & grabbed a snack for me.

12133134844_a23ea90df3.jpg

and my snack:

12132714225_4ee5e4970f.jpg

an ice cold bud light (yeah, not the best beer ever but it served it's purpse).

after our snacks, we took the boat & headed to DHS.

12133382776_80f97d8572.jpg

we had FP+ at TSM & headed to the ride.

12132998263_5e40598b44.jpg

after the ride, rachel & corey and emme & i separated and continued with our day at DHS. they were going for the thrill rides and emme isn't tall enough for the rollercoaster...yet. ha!

we ran into a few friends along the way...

after a few more rides & 2 shows, it was time for lunch for emme.

we headed to:

12133142324_401d0c10ef.jpg

Pizza Planet

emme has broadened her food horizon & now eats cheese pizza. this is a HUGE step forward for her as we mainly eat only korean food at home which turns into a total pain when we are at disney. but i'm happy to say that she likes the disney pizza!

we ordered our food & then headed upstairs where it was quiet & close to the bathroom.

Kid's cheese pizza meal

i learned on our last trip, i learned that i can trade the cookie for a yogurt. emme doesn't eat cookies (shocking, right)...so the yogurt trade is a good deal.

11958132425_5023cf2999.jpg

Kid's cheese pizza

one thing i will say about disney is that the kids QS meals are priced great. for $5.99, you do get a large amount of food. it's the perfect amount of food for emme & she is happy & full. this opinion changes at TS where kids meals are so expensive especially at buffets. emme is a total epic fail in terms of pricing at buffets for what she eats & the price it costs.

but i digress....

moving onto our beverages:

and another beer for me

overall, it was an enjoyable meal for emme at pizza planet. it's our favorite CS for emme while at DHS. two thumbs up for us.

after lunch, we continued onwards in dhs. emme fell asleep but i wanted to say hello to some friends before we exited the park.

11957846904_acc7a801cf.jpg

phines & ferb saw that emme was asleep & wanted a picture with her. SO CUTE!

we made our way back to the boardwalk to get ready for dinner at YSH. it was finally time for us to meet the others. :thumbsup2

Thank you so much! I can't believe how far it has made around the country. Today was the funeral and my family attended in support of my aunt and uncle and I saw pictures of the procession. WOW! The compassion was amazing.
