No longer a Pop Century fan

We are staying at Pop for the first time this summer. I'm excited to try it for the first time!

Sorry to hear about you issues at POP. we were there in Dec 2012 and had our own pile of issues. I thought that we were/are pretty easy going and not very demanding people but began to question myself after we got home.

The issues for us were with mousekeeping-not aking out the trash, wiping the sink, sweeping flooor, not leaving soaps-cups....went to the front desk many times-even had a print out given to us as to what they were asked to do and instead, we got wet-cleaner soaked towels left on our bed. had mold in the ceiling by the windows, could see daylight around the door and as for the air conditioner-ours didnt work well at all! I really think POP need some updating/referbished....felt less magic as the trip went on-causing friction between the family members....DH said this will be the last time we stay at POP or a value for that matter.

Took the time to sent an email to CS and they were very sorry for all that happened. We are however planning another trip in Dec 2014 and staying at POR. Hoping things will be better.....on a good note, we tried DDP-QS for the first time(it was free) was really nice not to worry about the food costs, I am even thinking that we may add it to our next vacation-even if it isnt free will do QS....

Just saying, things can happen anywhere and one must speak up. When this woman went to the manager, her DH walked away but she had had it and we convinced her to go.

Interesting. I tend toward nonconfrontational myself, and have been known to walk away when hubby makes an issue of things as well, but I also know he is right that the hotel (or whoever) can't fix problems they don't know about. I think it's kind of unfair of one partner to dictate what the other can or cannot do in this sort of situation.

If there's an issue that bugs me and not my hubby, he'll offer to deal with it, but if I tell him not to, he doesn't. Although he will definitely offer again every time I bring it up. :rolleyes1 But if he finds it irritating as well, why does my right to not complain mean he loses is right to complain?

I don't actually agree that people must or should speak up, although I think it's a good thing to do if someone wants to take the time and make the effort. But I find it intriguing that this relatively short thread has two stories of non-confrontational partners dictating what the other person gets to do in this situation. Publicly non-confrontational; privately, not so much, I guess. ;)

We stayed at POP in Sept and didn't have one problem. As far as the fridges you need to turn them down to make everything cooler. I thought the beds were very comfy. I am not a fan of the beds at Fort Wilderness in the cabins or AKL very hard and woke up with a backache every morning, not so when I stay at POP. I agree with everyone else though if you are unhappy with something Disney usually goes out of their way to correct it and make sure you are happy. You just have to politely inform them. We were given special fastpasses once bc we had to wait 45 minutes for a server to return my sisiter cc when we were at Chef Mickey's.

Great this trip in Sept will be very budgeted we are use to staying in Deluxes and I have a mod booked but b/c of finances may drop down to value if FD isn't offered.. Im a germaphobe so this worries me.

Now on that note, we have had issues at The Poly and at BC with cleanliness and service so it really isn't specific to Value resorts

I'm sorry but this is not resort specific. This kind of issue can happen anywhere. I have never had a less than fine stay at any value resort...have stayed at Pop 6 times now, AoA once, and AllStar Music once. And have both AoA-LM and Music booked for next month.

I just wouldn't worry about it at this point. If you get there and you are less than thrilled with the condition of your room, report it and ask to be moved. But in all reality? You stand more chance of picking up a germ inside the parks than you do in your resort room.

Oh I agree that's why I said that its NOT resort specific we had issues in Deluxes like Poly and BC

I am very surprised at your experience at POP. My family and I have stayed at POP many times and never had problems to your extent. We had a mattress problem one time and they were very diligent in resolving the problem to our satisfaction. As a POP lover, I hope that you will not let your experience affect any future Disney trips.:thumbsup2

We stayed at AOA last year and it was great! My question actually comes from my DD, she would like to know if the food court is still offering Gold Peak iced teas at the drink stations? She loves this brand and heard that they may be changing vendors. So anyone who was there recently I appreciate you feedback. Thanks.:thumbsup2

If it helps anyone reading this and rethinking POP now, I stayed in the rubics cube building near parking last year. Happy with room, clean, and if you walk through the parking lot and not the grounds/ main building, the bus stop is 2 min away :)

Just wondering why the OP didn't request a room re-assignment with all the problems they had...

WDW will NOT be getting rid of Gold Peak any time soon, as they are an exclusively Coca-Cola property and Gold Peak is Coke's brand (yes they license the Nestea brand from Nestle' but are getting away from that as it's less profitable to them.)

On a side note, I used to love Gold Peak when it was in glass bottles, but now that they package it in plastic it tastes like the plastic leeches into the drink. Maybe it's just me *shrug*

She wanted to, but her DH didn't want to move.

I think I would have over-ruled DH on that issue. It sounded like a total pain to just take a shower. I'm sorry the OP had such a problem at Pop. Anyone else who experiences something like this should definitely ask for a different room. The room the OP had needs to have maintenance give it a good fix.

That being said, if she gets to go deluxe next time because of this, lucky her! I love Pop, but I know DH wouldn't like the smaller rooms, larger number of people, and just the general feel of the place. So, when he joins me or DD and me, we stay at a deluxe. Works out better for everyone.

Sorry to hear the OP did not have a good time at Pop. I would have asked to move but I have a big mouth I guess.:rotfl: Hope your next stay is much better!

We are booked for Pop this summer & hope we do not encounter the issues that the OP did. We have stayed at all levels of resorts at WDW and while I think the OP's concerns were extremely valid & unacceptable, we have found this type of thing can happen no matter where you stay.

We stayed at the Poly in 2002, worse experience we had in WDW. Long story, my kids got sick & so did DH & I from the Norwalk (?) virus. I cleaned up our bathroom from 3 kids sick & asked mousekeeping for something strong to clean it up (Lysol anything) they had nothing. They looked at me like I was crazy. We went through 2 pack in plays & we got out hand smacked for that (figuratively). There's more but its long & tedious..anyway the staff was just not helpful from beginning to end.

We gave the Poly another try in 2010 & stayed CL level, Again not a great experience. Very little food left in the CL lounge, We had to ask for some to be replenished on several days. Staff auto-cancelled our Hoop Dee Doo (which we were charged for - but I got that cleared up after we got home with the credit card co) they just cancelled us for no reason & when we went to the lounge to get it worked out they told us there was nothing they could do. The woman offered me lunch ADR at the GF. Seriously???? Again long story but they were just awful to us & we swore that was the last time we stay at the Poly.

The best mousekeeping & staff & foodcourt for us is POR. Love it there but our family with now teens really can't fit there anymore.

By the way I just stayed at AoA LM over Easter & the resort was great, (staff, rooms, cleanliness, pools, giftshop, buses) Loved everything except the foodcourt.

I am booked at POP for end of May, and like others have said if my room were that broken down I would have been asking directly to move. If they said no, and sent a maintenance person out and it wasn't fixed then I would be asking to speak with the manager. Not in an angry way, just a look, I'm on vacation and this is harshing my mellow way. After that it had better be fixed or me moved, or else I would request my money back and go elsewhere. Its really not unreasonable at all. :confused3

One day we went to the Grand Floridian and he checked out the lobby bathroom. He came out and said, "Finally I found a clean restroom!"

I do have to mention that the dirtiest restroom I have ever seen at WDW was this same restroom (the ladies side though), after someone had gone in there and for whatever reason thrown wet paper everywhere. My friends and I had to go find someone to report it to so they would clean it. It was that bad.

so even the flagship resort doesn't always guarantee a clean restroom.

Was it the one by 1900 Park Fare? That one seems to be dirty a lot. I think because of so many small children, and so many mamas in a hurry to make it back to the meal.
