No lessons on the Holocaust

You can't deny fact. It's there, right in front of your face. I'm sorry, but it happened, it effects me personally, even though it's in the past.

Lots of people *DO* deny it. Google "Holocaust Denial" and see what you get.

This is crazy, and yes, we are doomed to repeat history if we don't learn from history. I can understand not wanting to cause problems in school, but to leave out something like this isn't doing anyone any bit of good. There are those who believe the holacaust never even happened...so, it's already happening.

I teach world history to 10th graders and we do an entire Holocaust unit. It always opens up a lot of great discussion.

And to add to the lack of discipline in schools topic - I think a bigger problem is lack of student accountability. I actually have to fill out a failure form for every student that fails my class essentially listing what I did wrong. I once had a student who failed my class because out of 90 class days (block scheduling and don't even get me started on that!) he had 60 unexcused absences. So on his form under the "What else could you have done to make this student more successful?" heading I wrote, "I don't know - maybe stop by his house with breakfast and pick him up and bring him to school every day!" I just couldn't help it.
