No hope for World Showcase...

The Food and Wine Festival don't do a dang thing for me. It brings the wrong kind of people into an otherwise great family park.
If I want to see loud mouthed cackling drunks I can go to my local campground on 4th of July. I realize the majority of the people that attend are well behaved, it's just that the other, smaller, percentage that ruins things. If your in the well behaved percentage (the majority of you are) none of this is intended to be taken personally.:thumbsup2

I know what you are saying about the few people getting drunk. I think F&W is more in the day while usually you see this activity pushed to late at night in Epcot.

I also saw a very similar comment like this about Glowfest in DCA though in that case it was by somone really upset and they needed to rant about something.

Aside from that, F&W brings a lot of people to Epcot during a previous slow time.

Spoken with true pixie dust in the eyes.:rolleyes1

I love the F&W and have never seen anything any more outrageous than any other time of the year when I ALWAYS see Kids acting up in nice restaurants and parents doing nothing, teens line cutting & Disney does nothing, adults whine and scream at CM's to try and get any freebie. People bumping, pushing and ramming me and NEVER saying "excuse me".

Complaining about the F&W seems to me, more often than not, a complaint against a lifestyle the complainer objects to (maybe not you, but in general).

I agree with Selfemployed. I had made a similar remark last year regarding the "noisy drunks" at the F&W Festival. These are not simply the the kids acting up in restaurants, or the whining adults as you say. These are the TOTALLY obnoxious "twenty somethings" that feel they own the park during these events. They are really loud and unbelievably rude and far beyond annoying. {I may even go as far as to say that they are worse than the Brazilian hoards} Although you may have never seen anything outrageous at the festival, believe me, we have. Many times over the years. These groups really need to be escorted out of the park. It is not spring break in Fort Lauderdale, it is WDW for criminy sakes. :sad2:

Just talked to some powers that be...

There's no chance of expansion in the World Showcase beyond restaurants and retail. At all. Period. The company has essentially given up on the concept.

No new pavilions, no new rides or shows in existing pavilions.
Not true at all. As has been said, all it takes is for a sponsoring country to say "build this" and it'll happen given the budget. There was just a pretty heavy rumor of them looking to add a new country as well (they were doing surveys for which country you'd like to see added). It is true that lately they've been aiming more at retail and restaurants, and I have no problem with them building that stuff b/c that's honestly what WS is about. I just wish they would build an attraction or two on the Japan-Canada side. It needs it.

Most of the countries have no sponsor, and further, never did. They had some retail participants, but they are not sponsored by the country itself. Norway was an exception but that is no longer true, and hasn't been since sometime in the late 90's or early 2000's.

Where did you hear that myth and why do you believe it to be true?

Also, some countries have applied and been denied despite having money. Disney didn't want them at the time. This was around when Norway was built and there was an interested in being added to World Showcase to boost tourism. However, Norway was unique and the government sponsorship was not the norm.

We go to F&W 3,4 times each year and I've never, not once seen this problem. Never. And I'm with my daughter, whose just now 17, so it's not that we're part of that group.. Not saying it doesn't happen but my examples of irritants are way more prevelent.

I think that there is far too much divisiveness on this thread which now has at least 3 OT tangents. I think we all need to put our differences aside and move forward in unison.

I guess we are like our politicians, can't put our differences aside, and can't move forward in unison. :sad2:

So anyway, how does this stand up now to the rumor/news of Spain getting a green light? At least to me, the rumor has a decent level of confidence. Still doesn't mean its a go, but it's in the mainstream media now.

Mmmm. Spain. Tapas. Sounds good to me. And it also sounds pretty credible.

i was thinking the same thing....

boy...team disney in anaheim and WDI's campus leaks like a sieve....because it seems like everybody knows a power that be that has direct info on financials and strategic planning that would be limited to a rather small number of executives, accountants, and market researchers.

Seriously...can't we not have 30 million keyboard mavericks who know somebody on the inside? it's just not a reasonable idea and it makes a fool outta ya
