No hope for World Showcase...

So, are you the pot or kettle? At least two of the individuals that have posted info are employees, so you might take a step back or the MIB and helicopters will be showing up.

Who's an employee? And at what level?

Again - if they can say anything at all, they obviously didn't sign a non-disclosure agreement, so they can explain whatever source they're referring to.

I suspect it's just their "gut" and instead of letting people know the truth about the current company situation and mentality - we're going to coast for a while on the idea that people want to believe.

Conversely, you've got a bunch of people who wont even say how they supposedly know this information that there is something coming.

Doesn't this include you in that group. The "I heard from so and so" Doesn't make something true. I could say the same thing, but oppose what you stated and it would be just as correct.

While mousermurf didn't name names, he has the 'proof in the puddin', so to speak. What is in the works? Before you all question some ones credibility out of some misguided loyalty to a corporate giant I think it is you who should offer "proof" of the next big things. If you have them murf will have to respond but frankly I have heard of absolutely no rumblings re: World Showcase whatsoever, either.

mitros, I may not always agree with you but in this case you are correct. Epcot packs them in often enough, what with F&W & F&G And the Christmas hullaballoo, they need do nothing other than milk the cash cow.

I'm sorry, must have missed where you named your source. Once you lead by example, then maybe you'll have credence.

One thing I have to disagree with is the notion that if something were in the works that there would be leaks. Other than Bay Lake Tower, which everyone knew about for ages before it was announced (kind of difficult to hide), Disney has been very good at keeping plans secret. Look at the Fantasyland expansion. A few months before it was announced at the Sept 09 D23 event, some plans were "leaked" to the public and those plans turned out to be real, but before that, no one knew anything. There wasn't a whisper from some of the best Disney gossip sources on the internet (Jim Hill, etc.). You have to imagine that those plans had been in the works for years and yet they kept it a secret right up until D23, which was probably the plan all along.

Well, that's just it - you pretty much proved the point yourself. The second there were "plans" they were leaked. That was over a year ago that the plans were "leaked" - in the timeline of construction and design, those plans were leaked roughly around the time they came into existence. Fantasyland phase 1 opens in 2012, phase 2 (the undecided part) in 2014.

They don't just do everything at once for any project - rather they do bits of design work as needed. When they formally announce it to us there's a whole ton of crap that's not decided or finalized but they know the general idea. It's why we don't know what's coming for the second half o Fantasyland's expansion - they still don't even know, but we were presented with ideas they had at the time of approval of the bigger overall expansion.

When a project gets funded there's estimates of costs based on building size, ride systems, etc.. There's also concept art of what they want it to look like, and schematics of the layout, and possibly research into a new ride system or technology if they're going that way. The rest all still has to be hashed out. That's why months later we're seeing models of Mermaid's ride and seeing Imagineers pick up pieces of it debating where/why/how a scene should happen - it was not finalized when announced the plan and the show scenes were will certainly be tweaked more as they go along.

With that in mind, if anything was happening in World Showcase there would be teams working on it, some sort of plans, even preliminary stuff like choosing where/when/how that would spark interest in the internet murmurs. The company is simply not looking into expanding World Showcase.

All by itself, that wouldn't be that big of a deal (as it could be looked at later in theory), but they haven't looked at in years and the consensus I've been told is there is no interest within the company to do so in the future and it's not on any long term plans and no one expects that to change.

And going back to the FLE timeline for comparison..

We know nothing is being worked on right now for World Showcase. That means it's very unlikely to open anything by 2015. That means it's not on the 5-year plans.

What I've been told, it's not in the 10 year plans either, so by 2020 thee wont be anything new either - the "opinion" of those I talked to be being it's not going to happen after that either.

Anyone like to refute that?

I can agree to a degree that nothing major will open in world showcase until at least 2019. This doesn't mean that there are no plans to make something. Just they aren't spending a lot of money to do it for a while.

Why 2019? Because that is what I was told by someone at Disney. Not a MK CM or Bus driver or a shift lead. Let's just say his first initial is B and he is know by his short name. If you are a friend of mine I would be happy to proove that this was said, when and where.

31 years to build something new in World Showcase. That's longer then the park has currently been open.

At best we'd hear about it in 2015, more likely 2016 or 2017. Poor Epcot.

I guess you saw models later than I. As an expert in design I will say that tweaking the lay term you use, is a rather continuous process. It's something that is done from conception of the attraction, which with LM was I don't know 10 years ago maybe more. It will continue to after the attraction is open.

Major planning though has been long done. I'd like to see a good pic of the site myself. I don't know why people aren't holding each other up to take a pic over the wall in FL. I've seen this technique used before.

A) Your condescension is offensive.

B) I'll bite, what makes you an expert in design?

C) What exactly is the technical term for tweaking?

Strategic realignment of aesthetics as it relates to the end user experience with an emphasis on broader emotional discourse and subsequent purchasing relevance? Seriously.

A) why should I answer to you?

B) Most people are an expert at something and design is one of my specialties.

C) I don't tweak, I refine.

This seems to refute your original post.

Everyone knows that Disney is saving it's money right now to build a new "world" in Texas. Now go ahead and bash me.

Actually, those plans were leaked a couple of months prior to the September 09 D23 conference, which is when they were formally announced. Now, I suppose it's possible that those plans were drawn up and immediately leaked sometime last summer, but I'm thinking that quite a lot of pre-planning and many years went into the final product that was announced at D23 (and which very closely resembled the "leaked" plans).

Disney doesn't build a bathroom without a story, so you can imagine the months of work that went into working this out. When they finish the story, they start the actual planning. Just from an engineering standpoint, you're looking at several months worth of planning, at a minimum and then you're looking at coordinating the vision of many different departments and dealing with all the normal practicalities of putting together any project. The reality is, the Fantasyland Forest expansion was probaby in the works for several years before the plans were ever leaked and yet no one knew about it.

You have bought into the bull-crap they've been selling since WDI was renamed under Eisner.

First off, a few months prior to Sept is.. wait for it... July. A year ago!

Google "the myth of story" and maybe learn something about WED. And you reference engineers? Why..? Are you an engineer? I'll tell you straight up right now that engineers are exactly what's wrong with WDI right now. Too many engineers who have no experience in show-biz and who have no right to be working on projects that need to appeal to the general public as an audience. The other side of the spectrum it's vii's brand of "more-artful-then-thou" screwing things up royally then saying "the audience just doesn't get my brilliance."

Both need to be out on the corner of Flower street with their possessions in a cardboard box.

As for expert on design - I have my degrees (in design!) but I don't throw it around like it's a gold plated decree from god for others to kiss my butt.

I think the point you fail to understand is that the plans were leaked just months before it was announced. Sure both the leak and announcement may have been a year ago, but a lot of progress has been made in that year. If Disney did the same thing for EPCOT, something could be leaked next week and D23 could announce the expansion officially.

When Disney wants to, they can keep things underwrap.
