No heat for us...*UPDATE* We have heat!!!

They came and cleaned out the furnace, but then discovered that the chimney is clogged.

Gene has the brushes to clean it, he used to clean the other chimney that's for the woodburning stove. The other chimney is much lower. It's on the right side of the picture, behind the porch. But the chimney for the furnace is on the left side of the picture at the peak of the roof. Our ladder won't reach and the roof is too steep and slippery to walk on right now.

We're holding pretty steady at 56º. We're going to all pile into our bedroom tonight with extra blankets and use a little portable electric heater that we have.

Gene hasn't given up on cleaning the chimney because he just called Justin outside. I hope he doesn't try to walk on the roof.

Oh no! It's too cold! Believe it or not though, once you all get under the covers, you'll be nice and toasty. It will just be hard coming out from underneath them!

Laura.....that chimney proably has an outside clean out....(or maybe an inside one)....what's the latest?? Did the Tech determine that by an efficiency test/stack test?

also...any chance you have a propane oven? that can be safely run with the door open for a bit to help out on the heat since your short on wood...in a pinch...

The chimney sweep is coming tomorrow afternoon and then we should be able to turn on the heater.

Yippee - we have heat at last! The chimney sweep just left and the furnace is running! I can feel a difference already!

We spent most of the time bundled up under the covers since last night.

It looks like I'm going to spend the next week and a half before vacation washing the smoke and soot off of the inside of the house.

But we're safe and sound and warm.

Way cool! I'm glad you're all safe. Like I said on another thread, I'm resigned to the fact that it's going to snow all winter, but I can't stand the cold much longer. Glad you're all about to be toasty!

Glad to hear the good news!!! I know what that was like with no heat, luckily we only had to go three hours.
