In the past I have not had a problem with this, so this must be a newer issue that has come us. I tried to book a HA room for 5 at POR and was told that they do not have any rooms that will hold a family that are HA. I then hung up and called special reservations. The lady I got put me on hold for about 5 minutes and came back and told me that they do not have any rooms that will hold more than 2. I asked if it was just the dates I selected because I could change those and she said no, they do not offer any HA rooms that will sleep more than 2. She told me I would have to book at AOA or get a cabin. I priced it out and AOA would cost us $672 more for the week and a cabin would be over $900 more.
Is there something in the ADA that may help with this? I just don't think it is fair that we would have to pay so much more just because we need a roll in shower.
Thanks for any advice.

Sorry which por French pr riverside

It irked online and it won't let me book at French with five but it said the dates I picked which was the 25-30 just to see was not aviliabile at riverside so maybe that an option. Just to let you know I also tried for five regular room at por French and it won't let me so they are not breaking and Ada rule since they won't let five in any category and if a regular room needs five they have to book at aoa or cabins.

I want to stay at the Riverside in Sept of 2013. I can book a regular room for 5, but not a HA room for 5. I was told that they have no HA rooms for 5. When looking online I can get the HA room for 4, it says it has 2 queen beds, but the agent with special reservations said that they only have king roll ins.

Their wrong sorry call back and speak to a manager if you can book a regular room in the same category you have to be able to book a ha room for the same category. I tried again and if you do four people you can book and it says all rooms have two double beds so I not sure where their getting the king bed from. I also tried again no ha and it won't let me book five people in any category at river side it keeps putting me in aoa. I think once aoa opened they stopped letting five people at por and trying to give aoa more bookings I would call and speak to a manager not sure if they could do anything but they need to know they have agent giving wrong info out.

First - there are a very few rooms at POR which sleep 5, those are in Alligator Bayoo and have never been accessible with roll in shower. Making the bathroom bigger makes the room too small to sleep 5.

POR is the only Moderate I know of which has the option of 5 in a room. It is possible that there are no 5 person rooms available for that time period (OP found there were online, but disney david did not). It may also be an issue with the reservation being more than 1 year out - don't know.
If there a 5 person options available at that resort, they would need to accommodate you in some way (PLEASE, no one go into how). Call back and ask to speak to a manager to figure out the issue.
If there is no 5 person availability at that resort, there is no ADA issue involved.

Previously, all accessible rooms with roll in showers had a single King bed, but they have been renovating them over time, even at the Value resorts to include 2 beds. Those rooms sleep 4. The only option for5 that comes with a roll in shower would be at Animation, the cabins or some ( not all) of the. One bedroom DVC.

Yeah, the info doesn't sound right to me either. My understanding is they don't have a lot of HA rooms for 5, though, so maybe they're all booked already?

They're actually wrong about the next cheapest option as well. You could book two connecting rooms (with one being an HA with a roll-in) at a value (for around $200 in a value season). You would probably get a room with a king and the connecting room would have two doubles. We had this at POP - with 4 - and it was great. Another option would be Family suites at ASMu; less expensive than the ones at AoA, but I'm not sure if they have any with roll-in showers available in that category. Hope that helps.

Just to follow up a little, I called the ADA and they agreed that there is something wrong. They said that because of the nature of Disney and the fact that they are so large, that while they do not have to offer a HA room that will sleep five at a certain resort that they do have to have one available in that same resort class and in the same price range. The guy I spoke to said that they can upgrade us free of charge, but can not request that we purchase a room at a value resort if we want moderate or make us purchase a deluxe room.
I have emailed disney in hopes of it getting to someone a little higher up. Once I hear back I will post and let you all know if we get a room or not.

so by that disney can put you in another moderate resort which the cabin are considered moderate by disney so they did offer you that. caribbean beach is also a moderate but dose not hold 5 in any room category. the last is coronado springs resort which has suites for 6 but dose not have rooms for 5 in other room category. the cabns can hold 6 guest so that why they offered you that they offered you aoa because to give you a choice since no other moderate can hold five guests in any of their rooms. it says the standard view and water view can hold five guest which sue said was in one building so they might be booked for the dates you want. it ried again in sept 2013 and couldn't get a ha room or non ha room kept giving me aoa. i would call disney back and ask to speak to a manager because the ada may not know the other resort in that class dose not hold five except the cabin which they offered you i know it was for more money but compared to por riverside their more money then regular rooms so their not charging you more for the ha room. i tried for sept 1-4 and they was the same price for the ha room and non handicap room.

I am not sure of the exact number now, but I think it is if they have 5 rooms of a "type" they must offer a HC room with the same capabilites. WDW has a few way to do this while keeping you at the resort you want (at the same price as if you did not need a HC room).

OP, did you try booking a 5 person room at POR, without the accessibility? Do they have any available? (some say yes, some say no). First off, get a reservation at the resort you want (that has a 5 person room available to begin with), then call special reservations to have your needs noted.

The ADA does not come into play until you have been refused a room, BTW. If you don't have a room booked, there's not much they can do. You just get into a 'he said, she said' war of words. No proof in writing, KWIM? (Actually, all ADA can do is back you up in a lawsuit.)

Once you have a reservation, they need to meet your needs to the best of their ability to meet ADA. If they do not meet ADA, then you have to file a suit against them.

You let the cat out of the bag, I forsee this thread getting locked by the next time I am back on. If everyone insists on a free upgrade to deluxe instead of taking care of their needs in any of the other available options, they will likely simply remove the 5 person room category at POR down the road. There is no room to have both the trundle and extra large bathroom.

Did you miss that? You might want to edit your post before this thread lights up like a Christmas tree to your accomodation offer.

I close this thread when I didn't have time to respond and then forgot to put a message.

From what I know the only Moderate that has any rooms for five is POR, none of the other Moderates. The ones at POR are in Alligator Bayou, there are not that many of them and they're very popular.

If there are any left when you make your reservation, but none are accessible there would be some requirement under the ADA to come up with some alternative.
But, the alternative would be within that same resort or another Moderate. They are under no requirement to give you something that would be a more than a Moderate or a higher price.

If there are none left at the time you make your reservation, that there is no requirement that the resort make and accommodation for you. The same as any other guest requesting the rooms that fit five, if there are none left, the guest that wanted a roo for 5 is out of luck at that resort.

In that situation, the options you were given that cost more are your choice - which you want to choose and how much you want to pay.

We are DVC members at OKW and stay most often in a one bedroom villa. Those villas at OKW do sleep five. There are also other DVC options that sleep five.
They are expensive to rent directly from Disney, but people have posted getting good deals by renting points from DVC owners. You can check that out on the DVC rental board on this site.

People have also posted about renting accessible off-site homes rental homes when they have a larger party then will fit in one of the Disney on site options. We've never used one of those, but people who have stayed have posted some of them even have things like accessible swimming pools.
So, if Disney doesn't have options for 5 that meet your needs, you may want to check into renting points or off site options.
