No food on AA from LAX to Orlando???!!!!

What the heck is going on ????? We make our ressies for our honeymoon to Orlando in June on AA and find out that if we want to eat anything we better bring our own food onboard because they no longer supply food or snacks!!!!??? Oh, but wait!! You can pay for a meal at the ticket counter if you want but it was like $10 or $15 pp or something lame like that to get a little snack tray!!? Are all the airlines getting this cheap?!?!?

Yes, they aren't making any money on the flights (I keep reading about people getting DIRT cheap flights!)

Bring your own food, even when they had food it was HORRID!

Yes. In couch you won't find meals on most airlines these days. I would plan on carrying on some food. With the prepackaged meals you can buy on board sometimes they run out of those.

For the money you can get something better in the airport.

Yes, we leave on tuesday, nonstop Lax to MCO. Our reservations show a meal is provided but I was reading on the website they are no longer providing meals and it starts I think, March 1st. I emailed them with my disappointment but they said most people do not want the meals anyway and they are offering a service enhancement. I will have to buy some donuts for my kids to eat on board. We leave at 8am and arrive at 3:30pm- makes for a long flight with just peanuts to stave of the hunger cries from the kids!

EVERYTHING has increased in cost, EXCEPT air fare prices. What did air fare cost in 1975? How much did a car cost in 1975? How about a gallon of milk? Prices are low because of de-regulation and competition. It wont last long... it cant. Airlines are hemmoraging money with the fuel cost and the low ticket prices. Buying your own food is a good bargain considering what the "real" cost of your ticket should be. Air travel is expensive. Once upon a time, most middle class people couldn't afford it. Enjoy the low prices while they last!

Passengers can't have everything. How can people expect dirt cheap fares AND ammenities such as meals????? No wonder airlines are filling Chapter 11 all the time. No wonder legacy carriers are merging together. Sad.

We never ate the food anyway. We did enjoy the sodas though. Just eat before you board the plane and bring some snacks for the flight. That's what we do (from LAX to MCO).

I'd be surprised if they didn't still serve drinks; just no food. Do what I've been doing for years: have your favorite deli pack up something fabulous for you, and watch everyone around you drool with envy. (Avoid things w/ strong odors, though. That's kinder to everyone else.)

I normally don't allow DS to eat Lunchables (mostly because of the wasteful packaging), but I do allow them on flights as sort of a special situation. It's an easy way to take along a very kid-friendly meal, drink and all.

Its not that they are getting cheap! They can barely afford to fly the plane, let alone serve extra food. I am suprised you hadnt known about this by now. Almost every major airline in the united states no longer offers free food in coach. There are rumors delta good be going back to there good old sky deli meals. They were actually good for airline food: ham/cheese sandwich, doritos, fruit, and cookie. Who knows if they really will though. Like other posters said, you cant expect them to offer dirt cheap air fare and make money. Everything is going up and price and air travel has is changing. Unforturnately now its getting harder to even find cheap air fare

Yes, it's true, no more meals in coach. It really is a direct result of the market conditions. Airline passengers hunt for the lowest fares at all costs. In order to compete with the Low cost airlines like Southwest, Jet Blue and Spirit the major, or legacy carriers have to match their price. Market studies have shown that if American is charging 225.00 r/t on a flight but has meal service and the extra legroom that they used to have, but Southwest is charging 200.00 with a more standard pitch and no amenities, people will go to Southwest. It is all about the price, lowest fare is the most important factor. I know I would have been willing to pay 25.00 to fly on American when they had their 'More room throughout coach' but most people aren't. So now the airlines are changing to more closely match their low cost competitors, it is really a market driven decision.

As someone said, back in the 70s it cost a lot more in real dollars to fly coast to coast than it does now. Airfare is one of the only things I can think of that has gone down in cost over the past 25 years, but the cost of business for the airlines has gone up.

Flew direct from San Francisco on United and got a great meal. On the way back we stopped in Denver and took a TED from there and could buy a meal fo $8 and it was a huge sandwitch that filled me up. I was told that they won't serve food if the flight is during a time of the day that a meal would not usualy be at so late night flights or very early flights get no food.

NWA discontinued their "meal" service (term used loosely) on DTW/SEA flights between last month and this month. Not much of a surprise, really, as that's the direction everyone has gone, and that route was one of the last holdouts.

I work for an AAirline and yes we are bleeding money left and right. It sucks to force people to buy things but airlines have to do drastic things to survive. Like people have said in the previous posts, People want food and cheap fares. When the airlines were making money, it was easy to do it. Now that they are losing thier shirts, they have to make cuts to compete.

Your all talking about short hops compared to the Chicago to Hawaii 9 hr run.

Never fear I'm prepared for that trip. I'm bringing grandpa's old standby sandwich (two of them,one for the wife on the other side of the plane), which I will eat past the halfway point over the Pacific...........the infamous LIMBURGER CHEESE sandwich with Praski lunch meat.

To enjoy it is to eat it slow.........real slow!!

Here's hoping for a 100 MPH headwind!!

Northwest has been offering food for sale for quite a while (about 3 years). It actually was quite good and not that expensive; here in Minneapolis, the food was provided by D'amicos, a local restaurant/deli.
When DH and I traveled over New Years, the more expensive sandwiches (I think $7) with fresh fruit and a deli chocolate chip sandwich were all gone by the time they got to us. The $5, less deluxe version with was all that was left. It came with raisins and oreos (!Vanilla oreos!!). DH and I thought the food was reasonably priced and better quality than the food that used to be provided.

United lost $326 million just in January. Continental's averaging a loss of $4 million a day.
