Found out yesterday that the pediatrician is officially not getting any more flu shots in. Today I picked the kids up at the bus stop and headed to the other end of the county where the health dept. is having a clinic 5-7--but the line was already 40 deep and since DD#1 has a concert tonight, we'd have to be back here by 6 (with a 20 min. drive) so I knew we wouldn't get in. I gave it an honest shot, got there as soon as humanly possible, but the line was just too long.
Bought some antibacterial at BBW on the way home and just have to hope for the best! I would hate to be at WDW with a barfing child!! If we can just get through the next 3 1/2 weeks!!

My whole family and I have it and the brite side is it is not the pukie flu that is going around but it feels much worse.

Going through the same thing here, although we don't have a WDW trip coming up. :( The kids were scheduled to get flu shots on Thursday, but the pediatrician's office called today to cancel because they ran out of flu vaccine.

I've had mine. Luckily my DM is a nurse and she gave my DB and I the shot. My DF has had his already and he gave my DM hers [yes he's certified haha]. Tomorrow my DM is giving my DBF and his sister theirs.

along with about 1,000 people. They got in about the last shipment they will have for the season. I was really upset because I had a scheduled appointment this week for a flu shot at our doctor's office, and they called to cancel it. We waited in line for several hours, but I was able to get shots for my children.

Good luck to others trying to get shots.

My doctor just cancelled my second flu shot appointment! They said they would not be getting any more in. :(

We just got our flu shots this morning (me DH, DD, DS). I have to bring the twins back in a month for their second booster. The nurses are setting it aside with our name on it, but if a high risk child needs it (when they run out of vaccine), it will go to them. I totally understand and agree with the policy, but I'm crossing my fingers that it will still be there for my children.

My doctor has run out too. At least my kids have gotten the flu shot especially my DS in college! Illnesses go around the dorm like crazy.

DS and I both had shots last Tuesday. When we were at the pediatrician's office and the nurse was getting his shot ready, I heard her tell another nurse that there was just one dose left after DS's. And I know there were 2 kids in the waiting room for a shot! :( The strain this year is certainly nothing to mess with. Can you get back to the health dept. at a more convenient time?

12yo dd has the FLU...took her to the doc today and they are out of vaccine too!
My ped said that are 2 types going around. One you puke and one you don't.
DD has barfed a few times but it could be because of the horrible headache. We barf from migraines here.
150 kids were out today at her middle school.

No, the health dept. is done. No one has ever even remotely suggested that the kids get shots until this year. Luckily they are not high risk. Next year I'll book early whether they recommend it or not.

If your doctor does not have any more flu shots, ask if you are a candidate for the Flu Mist. It is more expensive, but it might be worth it to you.

Also, if you or your kids don't get vaccinated and you come down with the flu, call your doctor immediately and see if you can get an anti-viral like Tamiflu. It can reduce the severity and duration of your illness.

We were lucky and got our shots early. But, having had 2 trip to WDW that included one person becoming very sick, I wish you and your family the best for staying healthy. The days seem so long when stuck in a hotel room!

Happy Holidays!

Another reason I don't even bother with it!

Some one will flame me, I am sure. With the panic about it EVERY year, everyone tries to get the shot and then the people who really are susceptible are screwed (unless they hold back ?).

How is one flu season any worse than the last? I don't know statistics, I admit. How do they know this year is gonna be bad? Isn't every year bad?

My friends whole family of 5 has been sick for over a week and the Dr's won't even see them because they have so many other people in the office. They told her to take her son to ER Sunday evening if he was "that" bad. I am sure it is the flu. All the flu symptoms.

Just remember that if you get sick - cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze and wash hands more than usual! And if you get sick - HYDRATE!

Don't know if this will make people feel better or worse - but DD (who got her flu shot the 2nd week in Nov) is home sick with what I assume is the flu today. :( I hope the shot at least helps to lessen the severity!
