No Expiration question?

We want to buy a 10 day park hopper pass. We will only be using 3 days in August then 7 days the following November.
We called Disney and they said we only have to buy the expiration for the 7 days remaining, the Disney store says we have to buy the no expiration for the full 10 days.
Does anyone know the right answer???

The cost is based on the number of days purchased...

So if your ticket is a 10 day ticket you'll have to buy no expiration based on a 10 day ticket even if you are using 3 days on this trip and will only need the no expiration on the remaining 7.

Buy the 10 day go to the world then on last day go to front desk and tell them you are not going to be able to stay and wanted to make the remaining days non-expiring. Then you would be able to argue that there is only 7 days left "why do I need to pay for the other 3" I am 90% sure that this can be done. You can call or email them this question and then use the response as proof what you were told by Disney

I thought that it could be done as well. Check out the service people at the entrance of the park. We had something like that and I am sure they did it.

Official policy is that you must pay the No-Exp price for the entire length of ticket, no matter how many days are left when you upgrade. See http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684. If you think about it, since additional days are ~$2, disney would be giving you a HUGE discount on your next trip if they let you do a partial upgrade.

I can tell you for sure they will charge the reg. price to convert to non-exp as if you originally bought it that way. We did this last year for my parents tickets. They bought a 3 day thinking it would be plenty. By the end of the 3rd day we upgraded to a 10 day, non-exp. and added the water parks too. That's what we usually buy for our family and it lasts 3-4 trips without the worry of cramming it into a 12 mo. period if we had bought APs.

answering your question, but you may want to consider an annual pass, at least for one person. With an annual pass you may get a room discount. Also you can get a Disney Dining Experience card which gives you 20% off meals and adult beverages at mnay but not all locations. Depending on your dining habits the $60 for the card can easily save a lot of money. It pays for up to ten people on one bill.

This asumes that the November trip is the November in the same calendar year as your August trip.

What is the difference in buying a 3 day pass, and then a 7 day non expiring pass?

Assuming these are Park Hoppers (no water parks):

3-day PH: $264 ($259 from Undercover Tourist)
7-day PH: $281 ($261 from Undercover Tourist)
Total: $545 ($520 from Undercover Tourist)

10-day PH No Exp: $479 ($440 from Undercover Tourist)

Therefore you save $66-$80 by buying the 10-day no expiration ticket. If you do the math with the Water Park option added, you save $119-$130 with the 10-day.

In either case, if you're buying a 10-day no-exp ticket, buying from Undercover Tourist will save $39-$54 per ticket over buying from Disney.
