Every year we try to make it down to WDW on Presidents Week, but the airfare is always prohibitively expensive.

This year flights are over $600pp! WOW!

In past years we have done the following to get cheaper fares:
- fly out of Philly
- fly out of Baltimore
- give up on WDW and goto DL instead.

Schools in NY and northeast are typically off for Presidents Week hence the high airfare out of NY or CT. South of NY the schools are not typically closed for the whole week.

I am considering flying to Jacksonville this year (out of Newark) for $225 or $285.

Anyone else come up with a good deal?

I'm sorry I can't help you with Presidents Week, but we are having the same problem with Easter Week which happens to be our spring break. We always fly out of Newark on Continental but fares for that time are like $700 per person, I've never seen it that high. The most I've ever paid for Easter week was $313. So instead of driving I found a deal out of Philly. We are doing US Airways into MCO 7am flight for $114 per person and flying southwest from MCO to Philly for $119 per person. We've flown out of Philly on US Airways once before for a last minute trip so I'm hoping all goes well. Good Luck on finding something!!

We're from MA, not NY, but also try to get to either WDW or the Ft Myers area to see my parents every President's week.

I've have my tickets booked since Jet Blue released the fares. We are flying BOS-TPA and then RSW-BOS for $265 pp non stop both ways.

While you may snag a random sale, you may also be getting close to the time where the fares are going to stay where they are, or continue to climb.

If you fly into JAX, you will also have to figure in the cost of a rental car, unless you usually rent anyway, and it's already part of your budget.

Good Luck!!!!

If it makes you feel better, I paid $811 per person from Albany NY to mco for Easter week...

Same problem exists for Xmas week. I've been tracking airfares from NYC/HPN for the entire year. Over $800 most of the time. I somehow got $295 from HPN on Airtran but have never seen it that low since that day in June. I can't believe fares are still that high. Do they really expect people to pay $800 per ticket?

To get a reasonable fare during a peak travel time such as President's Day/Week you really need to book the airfare as soon as it is released (which would have been months ago).

We are traveling December 11-16. I booked the airfare as soon as it was released and it has never gone done below what we paid and now it is hundreds of dollars more.

I think this is generally the rule of thumb. I know I was stalking Airtran's web site the day they were scheduled to release their fares for Xmas week. I was up at 6:00am trying to buy tickets listed for $225. For peak times of year, there is no other way.

I usually watch Bing and check the fare predictor right now for President's
Week its saying to wait and that the fares are going to drop

The hotel rates that weekend were crazy high too. Double the weeks prior. I was hoping to make a holiday light trip, but alas it will not happen. It is just nothing available unless a year ahead.
Play it by ear for a Spring trip.

Anyone tell me what the weather is like the begining of Feb. We were there one year in Jan. but it was great weather, shorts swimming while the Northeast was closed for several days with blizard conditions.

We were there in early Feb one year and MLK weekend another year. We were a bit unlucky. It was quite chilly in the evenings and mornings. The Feb trip we took the weather was in the 40's early in the AM but it warmed up pretty quickly. I think in general its normally a bit warmer.

Checkout JetBlue from Stewart in Newburgh. I paid $107 each way going Tuesday to Wednesday (yes, DS12 will miss 3 days of school ....).

Flight times were good - not requiring us to stay overnight in Newburgh and it was $500 cheaper than SW from Albany.

Of course, we want a rental car for two days ... that looks OUTRAGEOUS!

I love that airport. I just wish they had more airlines/flights. It's got a lot of cheap parking and it's about as close as HPN to us in CT. Airtran used to fly out of there but left a few years ago. JB has maybe one or two flights a day. Such a shame.

If you can be more flexible with your dates you might find something reasonable. We let the kids miss 2 days of school in order to get a decent price. In the past we have had to be very flexible with our airports too. We've flown into Jacksonville, Tampa, Daytona and rented a car to drive to Orlando.

At $800 pp - I'd be DRIVING to Florida rather than flying!

I would have canceled the trip if I were in that boat. I still check the fares for my trip dates (12/26-01/01) and they are still over $700. I honestly can't believe people are paying that. We were talking about going back in 2012 in June and fares are $220. Absurd.
