NO COMMANDO?? . . . .ARGHH! Can I do this?

Wow, it was WONDERFUL!! :cool1: And I am really tired and just trying to unpack, wash clothes, :laundy: and catch up. So I will start the trip report tomorrow, and try to start downloading several memory cards of pictures! Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Yay, welcome back! Can’t wait to hear all about it… popcorn::

I did it!

Well, if you read the pre-trippie, you know that my favorite way to see DW is by doing my research, planning carefully, and seeing it all. So this trip I was going to make the effort to be more relaxed and not mind if I led and no one followed!! Well, I did the research, made the plans, and purposely put in quite a lot of flex time. The plan worked WONDEFULLY!! The rest of the crew was happy and we all had a great time! :dance3:

So, off we went on Saturday May 5. DD and her family actually started on Friday, because they spent the night at the airport motel which offered free parking for the week. They had an early flight and live on the other side of Dallas from DFW, so preferred the security of already being there! DH and I drove to New Orleans, just under an hour away, to catch our flight. Coincidentally, DSIL’s parents were on the same flight with us, as they had decided to go stay at their time share in Orlando that week so they could visit with the grandkids some also. So when we got in line at the airport, guess who was right in front of us in line! So we visited with them until takeoff. Unfortunately for them, we were A people and they were B people, so we got on considerably earlier! Hooray, we got exit row seats with extra leg room! DD and family arrived in Orlando about 5 minutes after we did, so we met before we even got on the monorail to the terminal. Wild Child and Dreamer were very excited and couldn’t wait to get to DW, of course.

The in-laws were renting a car, so they visited briefly and then took off. The rest of us got on Magical Express and rode the magic carpet to Pop Century. Check-in went very smoothly with a VERY nice CM who got us wonderful connecting rooms in the 70’s just past the preferred rooms. We were in Bldg. 6, second floor on the inside, and not far from the elevator/stairs. It was very quiet and close to everything. DD’s room was ready but ours wasn’t but no problem. (It was actually ready before we ever left Pop to head for the park.) We went to see the room and drop off a few things, then headed for the food court. Thanks to the ratings over in the dining section, I got the parmesan chicken and the tie-died cheesecake. The chicken was good and the cheesecake was okay, but not memorable except for the color! The others had an assortment of burgers, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets. No one paid much attention to the food, because we were ready to get to the magic! Well, everyone but DH, who decided to rest his back a bit and then join us for dinner. (His back has been bothering him for years, but he refuses to talk to the doctor about it or go to PT. Not too stubborn! I nag him a little about it but of course it doesn’t work!) :headache:

Next: The Magic

Welcome Home! :goodvibes I'm so excited to be the first to post with you... can't wait to read about all of the fun.:woohoo:

/
I have to read - I'm a planner, but we are hoping to relax a bit on our trip, also!

We had a dinner reservation at 1900 Park Fare for the Cinderella feast, and we wanted to get in a little bit of MK first. Off we went to the bus, which whisked us away to MK. (Well, whisked is probably a little optimistic, but we were excited enough not to mind!) :dance3:

We decided to hit Adventureland first, so we hopped on the train and off we went. Upon exiting, we grabbed fast passes for Splash Mountain and then headed for Pirates. Ahhhhh, our first real ride, and one of everyone’s favorites. We hadn’t seen it since Jack Sparrow joined the cast, so that was fun. We had forgotten that first little drop in the dark, so Dreamy was a little disconcerted by that and while he enjoyed the rest of the ride, he wasn’t eager to get back on it. Wild child, on the other hand, rode it 3 more times during the week! Afterwards Jungle Cruise was a short standby, so we rode that.

Junglecruise.jpg

Wild Child and I then rode the magic carpets (which she loved keeping as high as possible). Dreamy declined, so he, DD, and DSIL dropped in on the Tiki Birds instead. Wild Child really wanted one of those wonderful swirly popsicles, so we stopped for that.

MimiLauren.jpg

After this it was time for the fast passes to Splash so off we went. Dreamy didn’t want to ride, so DSIL went with him to try their hand at shooting space aliens in Buzz while DD, Wild Child, and I rode. This was a recurrent theme for the week, as you will see. I dubbed us the Fearless Femmes, because DD and I love all the thrill rides, and so does Wild Child. She rode everything we would let her ride! We got in quickly and remembering past rides were careful not to get in the front of the boat. We were in the next to the last row, and there didn’t seem to be any standing water there so we figured we were pretty safe. Wild Child was tucked between us, but likes to hide her face against her Mom. Well, something has changed a bit in the timing of the ride since the last time we rode. When we were passing by where the log drops into the pool, we paused long enough for the next log to come down, sending up a huge plume of water which landed right on us. We were all three soaked!! I was on the side closest and I got the worst of it, but managed to shield Wild Child a little. Now this wouldn’t have been too bad if we weren’t just about to leave the park to go for a nice dinner! After that the rest of the ride was rather anti-climactic, and we got very little more water during the drop! The plunge was a lot of fun though, as always.

After we got off, we tried to wring a little water out of our clothes and hair and took off for the front of the park to meet everyone to go to dinner. DSIL and Dreamy had met DH and were waiting when we got there. Dreamy was very happy with his fight against the aliens. We took the boat to GF and had a very nice dinner. DGD really loved the princess and prince, and the rest of us enjoyed the buffet.

After dinner we hopped on the monorail back to MK. The plan was to catch Spectromagic and Wishes. DH was heading back to Pop, and Dreamy surprised us by saying he had had enough for the day and wanted to go back with him. So off they went to relax and swim. DD, DSIL, Wild Child, and I headed back in to find a place to watch the parade. The curbs were lined, of course, so we looked for a fairly uncrowded spot where we could sit behind the front line and wait. We found a spot with room for all of us behind a family of Mom, Dad, and toddler with a stroller. We put Wild Child in front of us, but we were all well behind the family. Suddenly the Dad scooted backward right in front of Wild Child and spread himself out to take up as much space as possible. What the heck? What threat was a 5 year old girl who wasn’t even close to him? What a jerk!! Well, we had no desire to sit close to someone like that, so we got up and walked onward. Just before the curve in front of the castle we found an open spot behind a NICE family with a perfect view of Tink’s line and the castle, so we settled in to wait. :thumbsup2 DSIL strolled back later to see what was up with the other family and came back to gleefully report that a very LARGE family had taken our place and seemed to be taking over the space pretty thoroughly. So mean Dad got his comeuppance. We would have been NICE neighbors! :rotfl:

I pulled out the glow necklace I had brought for Wild Child and we waited for the parade until my seat was totally numb. (Shoot, I thought I had more padding than that!) :lmao: Of course it was worth the wait, and Wild Child was absorbed by the magic, loving the parade, Tink’s flight, and the fireworks. Afterward we made our way to the busses for a LONG ride back to Pop. (Why does the trip back to the resort take 3 times as long as the trip over?) :headache: We got there to find DH and Dreamer just back from the pool. We got the kids ready for bed and tucked them in, but DD and I just had to unpack and settle in a bit. It was pretty late by then. The kids always sleep with Pop and Mimi when they are with us, so they alternate between us. Dreamy was already settled in my bed and Wild Child settled in with DH and they were soon asleep. It had been a very long day, but I was pretty wired still so grabbed one of the tiny plastic bottles of wine I had packed in my suitcase, got my reading light, and sat on the floor by the bathroom to read a chapter in my book and drink my wine. DD and I are re-reading the whole Harry Potter series before the new book comes out this summer, and she had brought me the first one to start. Finally I relaxed and climbed into bed for a little rest. I had only had two hours of sleep the night before, and had been up for about 20 hours at that point! Needless to say, I slept VERY well! :cloud9:

Welcome Home! :goodvibes I'm so excited to be the first to post with you... can't wait to read about all of the fun.:woohoo:

Hi, "Neighbor"! Good to have you here! :cheer2:

Sounds good so far. :thumbsup2

Glad to have you along!

I'm in!!! Welcome back! :)

Good to see you still with me.

I have to read - I'm a planner, but we are hoping to relax a bit on our trip, also!

Welcome, Magicfor2! Glad to have you! :welcome: Relaxing is a relative term, you know!

Welcome back! Just catching up and loving it! The picture of you and your DGD is precious! Looking forward to more!:surfweb:

Next are the tees for the whole family I found at the Disney Store in the mall on clearance for $2.99 each, adults and children. :yay:

Bought the same shirt for DS for the same price! You have GREAT taste! Thank you for sharing your pics, your TR is wonderful!!

Thanks! - She is a sweet mess! :cutie:

Excellent taste, Cory's Gal! I love that shirt! We all wore ours on our second day, so you will hear more about them soon. DD said DGS even wore his to school today, since although he had kind of outgrown "Mickey shirts", this one was cool!:cool2:

MDF, glad you're here. It definitely won't be as funny as yours - I have LOVED reading it, along with Linnie's comments (corrections?)! :rotfl:
I just don't have any bathroom stories that I am allowed to repeat! But the unadorned toe will be there.

I'm in!!! Reading what I can before I'm off to WDW. Sounds like your family had a faboo time. I'm really curious how difficult it was to NOT commando. Luckily, I can commando all I want, at least until Da boys derail me. <giggle>

Mer
Off to take a picture of my bed, which is piled high with stuff I'm attempting to pack....when I'm not taking "breaks" to read the DIS!!!

Ok, I'm all caught up. I really like that Donald/Mickey shirt also. They both look so menacing!

The in-laws had their own car and just took off!! :rotfl2: :lmao: Sounds like my parents. :confused3

Your grandchildren are beautiful. I think it's pretty neat that you guys did this trip together.

I've had chronic back and neck problems also related to many army injuries over the years. The chiropractor saved me and today I feel like new.

Good stuff and I love the old pictures. Can't wait to read how it all went.

Mer, we kind of let the kids dictate the schedule. Dreamyboy wakes up early and is ready to go, and Wild Child does better if she sleeps in a bit. So once we figured this out we were ready to divide and conquer. We started a routine of Dreamyboy and I heading out to a park to hit a couple of his favorites (Star Tours in DS, Mission Space and Test Track in Epcot, for instance), then coming back or meeting the rest of the crew for whatever park we had scheduled that day. Wild Child would sleep later, but that night she would be ready to stay and see the fireworks with her mom and me while Dreamyboy came back to swim and unwind with my DH and sometimes his dad as well. You may notice that I was the one who started early and went late, so this satisfied my commando instincts while not wearing out anyone else.

Glad you are getting a head start. The last minute stuff nearly killed me. I was up until 2:30 the night before we left printing stuff I had saved (did I really need the menus from each place we planned to eat?) and trying to make everything fit in our suitcases. Spacebags from Walmart saved me -I got the kind that you roll up to get the air out and used them for beach towels and all those matching shirts I had bought. Next time I will use them for all the clothes. It doesn't cut down on the weight, but it makes things fit better!

Thanks, MDF. I wish I could get my husband to go to the chiropractor. :headache: I know it would help. The in-laws are actually very nice. Since there were six of us we wouldn't fit into their car so they couldn't help with transport, so we just stuck with ME. They are pretty independent, though! Yes, that is my favorite shirt - a little counterpoint to the sweetness and light stuff!:rotfl:

I totally missed your pretrip...but I found the after the trip report! It sounds like the trip started out great! I love that your daughter and you share this wonderful love together and that you are passing it on to her kiddos. The pictures of the past and present are fab! You and your Dh are wonderful grandparents. Your grandbabies are going to have so many wonderful memories of you going to WDW with them!

Can't wait for more!

Loving the TR. Your GD is the cutest thing with those curls!

I too am re-reading the HP series in preparation for the new book/movie in July. :3dglasses :coffee: I am super excited!

I am actually hoping that Disney will do something HP related now that they have rights to the movies.

Anyway...Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the next installment.

:thumbsup2

Day Two – MGM/Disney Studios

First I want to post a picture I just found of DH, Dreamy and Wild Child at the Grand Floridian while we were waiting for our ADR.
popkidsatGFsmall.jpg

Well, after the long and exhausting trip day, we knew not to plan an early day today. Of course, I’m almost always the first one up no matter how late I get to bed, so I open the door to DD’s room and grab their mugs plus our two and head to the food court. Coffee for the 3 of them and diet Coke for me – that is my morning ritual for the rest of the stay. When I get back DD is up so she encourages me to go ahead and get my shower and wake up, so I do. By then DGS is awake, so I ask him if he wants to go get some breakfast. He loves breakfast, so off we go. We got a kid’s pancake meal and chocolate milk for him, and a side of bacon and two pieces of bread to toast for me. He loved his pancakes and scarfed them down while I was figuring out the toaster. :confused3 (The first meal or two at a food court is always a challenge while you find everything, figure out how to do things, and decide what you like.) Now here’s the thing about Dreamy. He can be really committed to something he believes in. Back when Charlotte’s Web came out, Nick had this whole “Save the pig” campaign going on with a website aimed at the kids where you could take a pledge not to eat pork. (Do I sense the fine hand of PETA here?) :guilty: Dreamy took the pledge, and has not eaten pork since. :upsidedow And he loved sausage, bacon, and especially pepperoni, which used to be his favorite food. He only eats cheese pizza now. So when we shared breakfast, Wild Child got the sausage, I got his bacon and he got the pancakes! We finished chowing down and went back to the room, taking along some toast and bacon for Wild Child. All this time Wild Child is still asleep. :rotfl: DD has now turned on the lights and TV trying to get her to wake up on her own, but so far it hasn’t worked. (She is not a happy camper if you have to wake her, so we try not to if we can help it!) DD has completely finished unpacking, so I dive in and put away the rest of my stuff. Wild Child eventually rouses. :yay: We decide to wear our matching Mickey/Donald shirts today. DH grumbles, especially when he discovered they don’t have a pocket for his glasses, but wears it anyway. He does humor me at times!

Here is our one family picture wearing our matching shirts.
matchingfamilyinDS.jpg

Wild Child finally wakes up so we give her some food and her migraine meds and off we go to the bus stop. We have a 4:20 ADR at Mama Malone’s for the Fantasmic package. Watching the weather, we have discovered that this is the only day with thunderstorms forecast. Naturally. We head out about ten. Fortunately the bus comes quickly and the ride is short.

We get in and head for Little Mermaid since it is close. This is a fun show and we all love it. Next, off to Star Tours, which is one of Dreamy’s priorities. We get our FP’s and then decide we had better go ahead and grab a bite to eat since our dinner was so early. We consulted the map and made our way to Flatbread Grill. DD, DSIL, and I all had the chicken caesar wrap, which was yummy. The kids had the chicken drumstick and the PBJ, and DH just had a coke. He usualy doesn't eat lunches anyway. We tried the cheesecake and the chocolate cake, neither of which was anything special. The chocolate cake tasted like the Hostess chocolate cupcakes that you get at the grocery store! Then it was time for our FP’s so we went back and rode Star Tours. That is such a fun ride. :) :) Afterwards it was Muppet 3D. It is great fun watching the kids watch 3-D and trying to catch everything! :3dglasses The kids wanted to stop off at the Honey I shrunk the Kids Playground, so DD and I decided it was our chance to ride Rockin Roller Coaster. DSIL stayed with the kids, DH found a shady spot to sit, and we went to RRC. It was only a ten minute wait on standby so we just went straight on. Wow, I had forgotten how this takes your breath away right at the start! FUN! :yay: :yay:

The kids had fun at the playground. Dreamy didn't want to stop for a picture, but Wild Child did!
laurennetsmall.jpg

We went back and collected the crew and decided to do the Great Movie Ride, which we had somehow never done. It was getting pretty hot by this time so we wanted to do something inside and cooler. On the way down the Streets of America, we heard a voice saying “Hey, can I be in your family too?” and looked up to see a cute guy about 11 or 12 in the same shirt that we all had on!! We invited him in, but he eventually went back to his family with non-matching clothes! I think DSIL's question about whether he liked to mow the yard scared him away! :scared1: We really got a kick out of him and his family. We really enjoyed the Great Movie Ride. I think sometimes people get so hung up on the thrill rides that they unnecessarily ignore some of the other good stuff.

Okay, we have a little time before dinner, but the skies are getting cloudy, and that forecast of thunderstorms weighs on our minds. Are we going to get rained out of Fantasmic tonight? Part 2 later.
