no child next year for WDW

Good afternoon
My family have been to Disney going on 3 times in the last 4 years. We are going this summer me , my husband my almost 15 year old son. My son does enjoy it but I really would like to go to on Disney trip just me and my husband only. Not sure if I can wait till he graduates ,planning on big Disney trip when he graduates in 3 years. Would love to see what other people think and how did your kids react when you went with out them even though they love to go

My kids and grands were sad and a little surprised that we didn't take them last Nov. However, we had a very nice time and are planning on going again without them next Spring

I've never done it with Disney but I suppose I could the same thing as I do with other adult trips...which is to make it clear from the start that it's an adult only trip, romantic lodging for two, adult oriented dining and activities. My parents did the same, and maybe I was disappointed but never made a fuss. And their destinations were places I wanted to go like the beach or lake.

I honestly don't know how that would translate with Disney though. That's always been a distinctly a everyone welcome trip.

I think he is old enough to understand mom and dad want and need time away together. You can love Disney as a family and as a couple. While on vacation at Disney this summer, tell him mom and dad are thinking about an adults only Disney trip. So we can do some of the more adult experiences disney has to offer. Stay in a more of an adult centric hotel, like Yacht club, and take in the Food and Wine festival for example, a monorail bar crawl, or the highway in the sky dinner and drinks tour etc. JellyRolls on the Boardwalk in the evening, and maybe some meals you wouldn't otherwise do as a family. We went for our 10 year anniversary, and our kids were just fine! They were 16,19 at the time and they were happy for us to go alone.

I would suggest making it sound like a trip he wouldn't like. Maybe describe limited park time, time spent mostly just by the pool, and then spending the evenings enjoying bars and nightlife. Maybe make sure your son is getting to do something fun too while you guys are away.

It is time for you to start thinking about empty nest and this could be a way for the two of you to start. You can use it to reconnect, find new things for the two of you to enjoy together, test your limits, and start planning for when your child graduates high school.
DW and I did our 15, 20, & 25 anniversaries on a DCL. Have you taken a cruise, maybe that is a way for you to do Disney and not actually go to WDW; if you are feeling that your son would be upset. If you haven't taken a DCL maybe tell him you are going to check it out for possibly a future family trip.
DW and I went to WDW on dates so we both loved Disney from the start. We have done many WDWs/DCLs and our DD knew that we needed time alone and she was totally acceptable with us going without her.

We alternate adult/kid trips. I don't ask their opinion nor do I downplay the excitement for our adult trips. I have 4 kids and wouldn't consider waiting until the last one is out of the house to have an adult vacation.

We are doing our first adults only trip since the kids came along. We are going to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. DH and I love WDW and always talked about doing F&W by ourselves. We just booked the trip when FD came out last week and got our airfare yesterday. We haven't told the kids yet because they love WDW too and I know they'll want to kill us! We're gonna have to tell them soon; they already know something is up because I've been on the computer a lot and they know whenever I do that, usually a WDW trip is in the works.

Do a small adult trip and then the big one when he graduates; that way everyone is happy! Good luck
