considering we leave a little after breakfast it means alot to me bc i cant have special lunch or dinner

if u have any replacements for chef mickeys plz let me :cool1:

Why don't they want to do Chef Mickey's?? :confused3

(Knowing their reason for ruling it out might help us come up with other suggestions.)

I'm 47 & I'm not too old for character meals, just did my first one ever this past January. I'm guessing you are younger than me, so inform your parents that you will never be too old to go to a character meal. :clown:

I haven't eaten at Kona, but I have read very good reviews. It's certainly not going to have the 'wow factor' of Chef Mickey's for the last meal though. :guilty:

Have you tried talking to them about it, letting them know how you feel? Sometimes I decide things for my kids based on how *I* think they feel and it turns out I'm way off base. Most of the time they don't tell me what they really want to do though, so I'm stuck with guessing.

I think, in your situation, I'd tell them that you really do look forward to spending your last WDW meal with the characters. See if they're willing to change their minds about it.

You're only too old for character meals if you feel like you're too old. My family planned a breakfast at Chef Mickey's precisely because Mickey Mouse would be there. My youngest sister is 19 and my only nephew is 9 months old, so we didn't plan the meal for him as we have no idea how he'll react to characters since he's so little.

I agree that you should let your parents know you are never too old for a character meal. I know that DH and I will do a character meal(probably Chef Mickey's) when we go by ourselves. At WDW, no one is too old for anything. That's the way Walt intended it to be!

Hi WDWmaniac,

As others have said, you're only too old for characters if YOU think that you're too old. I am 31, and I enjoy the character meals just as much as my DD7! Let your parents know how you feel, and maybe they will change their minds about Chef Mickey's when they see how disappointed you are.

:grouphug: Good luck!

I'm thinking your parents have made this decision based on you being blue last time. So I agree with other posters, tell your mum and dad what your fave things at WDW are and they may understand you better.

I am shortly off to DL after having done WDW last Easter. I was discussing with my 5 year old what our goals should be, I got a reality check when I realised how high on her list the swimming pools at the hotel were for her (and there is me booking every single character meal I can fit in, it is the scrapbooker in me). So I will have to bear this in mind.

My wife and I are 35 and 37... We are doing EVERY character meal we can... 7 breakfasts and 2 dinners... You are never too old to do character meals at WDW... That is part of the magic...

I don't know how old you are but I think you should explain to your parents that you want to do this... It is after now a family tradition... Something you look forward to and treasure... I wouldn't take no for an answer...

Failing to take you would taint your whole trip and possibly future trips... They need to understand that... Show them this thread, that should help...

Good Luck

We have found that our WDW traditions change as our kids have grown.

Maybe it is time for a different character meal during the week. How about Restaurantsaurus at AK? Or Crystal Palace at MK? You could still see the characters, but wouldn't miss out on the Kona Cafe, which has fantastic desserts, several of which are especially appealing to kids.

Leave them at the hotel, and go by yourselves. Don't let someone else hijack your vacation. Besides, I think some time apart, when traveling with guests, is always good--for both of you.

Not a very practical option considering that the OP appears to be a minor and is travelling with his/her parents ;)

To the OP - Just TELL your parents openly and honestly that you really look forward to this meal and ask them if they'll reconsider. It may just be that they don't know how much you really want to go here.

If they stand firm - ask about a compromise - trying another character meal in a different restaurant - Garden Grill (revolving rest in The Land Pavillion in epcot) is a nice choice - you can also do 'Ohana for b-fast, Crystal Palace or 1900 Park Fare etc.

GOOD LUCK!

Chef Mickey's is ALWAYS a MUST for me too (i'm 36 and I even go when we take childless trips to WDW)! I would NEVER let anyone tell me that I couldn't go there. If they don't care to go, let them have breakfast elsewhere. If that is a favorite for you and something you always plan when you go, then you should do it even if they choose not to.

Ooopss! Sorry, didn't realize that. That changes the whole picture. They're footing the bill, they make the decisions.

I think you should first thank your parents for taking you to Disney again. Then you could tell your parents that you really still enjoy character meals, and why you were not so happy last time. I know if I went to a specific restaurant for my kids, and they did not seem happy with it, I would not want to go there again. Parents and kids think differently. They might not realize you were just upset about leaving. If they still don't want to go remember that they are taking you to Disney, and thank them again. Any restaurant at Disney is a good one because it means YOU ARE AT DISNEY!!! :woohoo:

there is a simple solution to your problem - go to O'hana in the Polynesian instead. It's a much better atmosphere and you get better "character attention" here anyway...........interestingly enough, your problem will actually cause you to go to a better place where you'll have a better time and get a better breakfast.

LOL if you show this thread to your parents you might find you aren't going to Disney anymore! :rotfl2: I certainly would be miffed if my daughter started demanding things, she already thinks she is a deprived child when she doesn't go on holiday at every school holiday, last year we did WDW at Easter, Legoland for her birthday, South Africa for summer, Southampton at October half term and then she complained that she didn't go away at Christmas, shame you can't send them up chimneys anymore. We are spending our summer holiday here in Jersey this year, I can hear the complaining already!

We love character meals, not only for the kids but for us too. In fact hubby REQUIRES a breakfast at Chef Mickey's for every trip :)
