I've been reading that if we are flying into the US we aren't allowed to have a carry on bag. I went on continental.com to see if they have anything posted about this and I can't see anything saying that we aren't allowed to bring a carry on. Is this rule just for specific airlines or is it every airline and continental hasn't updated their site yet? Here is what I'm seeing on the site.

Current as of Wed., Jan. 6, 2010 6:00 p.m. Central. Information is updated as it is received.

Please visit Today's Operations for the current status of our operations.

The Transportation Security Administration is currently requiring enhanced security measures for all flights departing from non-U.S. locations to the United States.

We recommend that you ensure that any liquids, aerosols or gels that are included in your carry-on bags adhere to the restrictions currently in place.

Customers are advised to arrive at the airport one (1) hour prior to normal processing times.

For details regarding the new security measures, go to tsa.gov.

Check out the thread "What you can bring on the plane" HTH:goodvibes

The new security measures are (hopefully) temporary, and although they have originated form TSA directives, the restrictions for flights from Canada to the US have been put in place by Transport Canada. Therefore, to find accurate info on the latest restrictions you need to check with your local airport, not the airline you are flying with.

i looked at continetal last nite too- we fly them april 15th. wheni looked at the site it directed me to check my home airport. accordign to halifax there are regualtions- small purse, laptop in laptop bag, diaper bag with only nessicties, no other bags will be permitted.

Just for clarity, here's an excerpt from Transport Canada's website:

Passengers may carry with them one or more of the following items: medication or medical devices, small purses, cameras, coats, items for care of infants, laptop computers, crutches, canes, walkers, containers carrying life sustaining items, a special needs item, musical instruments, or diplomatic or consular bags.

Complete statement can be found here:

I have to be honest and say that sending someone looking for concrete information to another thread on the DIS which is full of speculation is quite dangerous.

Please refer to the below link - it's the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority's traveller's FAQ.

You can take a bag with your meds in it as well as your purse. Just make sure the bag complies with the CATSA guidelines for size. You can find that link in the previous post.

Me either:confused3. I would just use another small purse or something like that. As long as it is within the dimenions stated on the CATSA website, which has posted links about 30 times now in all these threads:rolleyes1

thanks susie...atleast im not the only one who doesn't know what the heck they are....praying they'll change some of these before april...pls oh pls....

how lax do you guys think they'll be in a few months? we went down in september bought milk for the kids after security. fine. the day we left we had some in flip containers for them going through security with the milk in. i said oh well we'll just chuck em away when we get there. we we had so much stuff, 2 kids, stroller and a 4 yr old metling down we never remembered the milk. it went through the scanners in the bags and not a word was said....so much for no liquids before the security points....

They let you take milk through security if you're travelling with a baby. I always took a sippy cup of milk and water for DS and it was never a problem. Who knows what will happen now though.

I hope things change before our flight next month or I'll have to invest in diplomatic and consular bags :headache:

yes im aware of that for a baby, but mine are two and four- hardly babies, i mean i know my little guys short and all....lol

just shows how lax and incosistant they are with their own rules they put in place. and by looking at the guys at the orlando airport i know i would want to mess with them.

Dangerous?....... :scared1:

lolololololol

Nah, that's a stretch. I gave direction to a discussion about the topic, didn't say it was "Definitive information on current security regulations and laws governing passage and transport into the United States of America"!!! :)

First, you'd need to invest in becoming a diplomat:rotfl:

We are! But it only counts for official work documents that are super confidential... boo! I was hoping it was a special bag we could fill with "contraband" like headphones and game systems! ;)

seriously, there is so much can you and can't you on that thread! maybe not dangerous, but misleading for sure.

if i wasn't web savvy and knew where to go, i'd be scared. not everyone knows google as well as some of us.

I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

This is a discussion forum, it should be expected to see that sort of thing.

Like I said, I was just pointing to a discussion about it. No worries. :)
