Ok, we have closed for over two months now, in the system and almost used up all my points.

So why don't we have cards? No rules book? Nothing but a pretty book showing the resorts.

I have requested cards and keep being told they will be sent but this is the worst in customer service I have seen in awhile.

Is it because I bought resale? I just want a rules book and a set of membership cards. I don't feel I need to take time from my vacation to go to SSR and pick up a temporary because they can't do their job.

What can I do or who should I call?

I am interested because I will be buying a resale soon. What does the company that you bought from say and who are they if ya don't mind.
Thanks

Is it because you bought resale? Yes and no. The cards have nothing to do with how you bought. They just take a long time. I can't think of any really good reason for it -- they just do.

The other documentation, however, you are not going to get. I'm talking about the POS and all the rules/regs, etc. It has nothing to do with which resale broker you bought from -- that info comes direct from Disney because it's required by law when the developer sells a timeshare. That info is provided ONLY to the original purchaser, but we got along just fine without it. We didn't receive all the legal stuff until we bought an add-on at SSR directly from Disney.

If you have the Planner, which is what it sounds like you got, it should contain all the info you need about making ressies, banking, borrowing, etc.

You might try calling MS or Member Administration and ask them for the full packet, but I don't know if they'll provide it. They're not required to.

You could also contact your broker and request that the original owner send you their copies, but they may no longer have them.

It does usually take a few months to receive the membership cards. They used to send out paper temporary cards and then the blue plastic cards later. We didn't get ours for about 5 months when we first purchased and even used the paper temp card for our first trip back in 1993.

All of the planning information will eventually be sent - although DVC has considered possibly charging for some documents for resale purchasers (like the POS) - since the original owner already received them.

If you feel that you will need any of the member information I'd suggest making a trip over to the sales center to pick them up yourself if you don't want to wait. I'd let your guide know in advance that you will be coming to get those things to minimize your wait.

All of the information (but not the membership card) is available on the member's site. So you can even read or print anything that is of importance to you.

I agree, anything you need is on the Member website so I suggest you go there. You are in the system so if you have ID you can travel to DVC with no problem until you get your cards. Just be patient and think of your wonderful vacations you have planned with your points! (and come to the DIS for your DVC fix!!) :grouphug:

If it helps we closed on SSR on 1/7. We purchased direct from Disney. Our cards arrived on Saturday, 3/3.

We signed contract through disney 1/17...they recorded deed 2/14
we received our card 3/5

Welcome Home everybody!

Not that this will make you feel any better but it has taken us a while to get replacement cards. Ours went thru the wash and the back paper side disintegrated. I requested new ones end of January I believe and still have not seen them.

Maybe they print them out in batched or something :confused3 but yes, it does take a while to get them apparently.

We bought Jan. 31st.....and all we have are temp. cards. I even asked last week and they said any time now. :confused3

We don't even have temporary cards. Nothing. I wanted to get our AP's with a discount while we are there and maybe do dive quest with a discount but I have nothing to show I am a member.

I would like a temporary and not have to track one down. Am I being unreasonable?

Thanks for the good info so far and welcome home to our new neighbors!

we signed & mailed paperwork on 12/14/2006 (had temporary cards with our paperwork). Our deed was recorded 1/8/2007 and cards were mailed to us a few days after that. Envelope has a postmark of 1/11/2007 on it. Just received deed and title paper this week.

Maybe they are taking longer with all the sales before the friends and family discount ended?

I think the cards and welcome packets are printed and sent throgh an outside fulfillment company. Those types of business get backlogged easily when there is a rush of requests...and DVC sold a lolt of contracts over the last couple months...it seems there were probably a lot of resales, too.

Just bought resale at WLV...

Was in the system on 3-5.....made 2 ressies....
Received new member handbook..and...
2007-08 planner:cool1: yesterday...

I did not receive a member card....either....glad to hear it's normal...

I believe you can call MS...and buy an AP at the discounted
rate and activate when you get there....

If you go before you get your card....
bring your MEMBER #....so u can get any other discounts...

Your room key will say member on it, so you will be able to get your discounts. What is the reason they are saying it is taking so long. We also bought our first contract resale, and I do know it took longer to get the cards than if we bought direct, but we saved alot of $$$ so it was worth it.

We purchased resale and closed end of January at BCV. We have already received our membership cards and member booklet. I believe they came around mid-February. If I can remember right you closed around the same time we did. I guess we were lucky that we already received our information. Good luck and hopefully they'll arrive soon.

We purchased from Disney and got temp cards within days of sending back paperwork, but our hard plastic cards took about 2 months. Why don't you go through the member site to get your APs? Also- if you have Disney Visa I believe the Dive Quest discount through that is greater than the DVC discount. (It is 20% off through Disney Visa vs. 15% DVC discount)

Since you asked, yes, I do think you are being unreasonable. These things take time, and, frankly, purchases like yours probably are and should be put to the bottom of the list in terms of priority. I hope you get your cards, but I would give it another couple of months since there has been a lot of activity involving direct purchases from Disney lately that should receive higher priority (IMHO). However, if you are worried, I would continue to politely follow up. Some discounts may require a membership card, but if I am not mistaken they can produce temporary cards for you at the DVC office on-site if I recall correctly.

Tacomaranch,
I don't think you are being unreasonable--sounds like you are just excited. I am still carrying around my paper temps and won't feel like a true member until I have those plastic blue cards. FWIW, I was excited to show my card, albiet, temp card, at checkin and they said just a photo id will do. Like another poster mentioned, once you get your room key, it will say "member" so you won't need to show anything to get a discount. My mom, who was staying with us (not a member herself) also said "member" on her card and used it to get the DVC discount.

I bought in early January and still no blue cards. I am sure they'll come eventually!

It's also helpful to have the "persks" booklet that lists all the discounts for recreation, shopping & dining. You'll get that in your packet at checkin.
Best of luck!

I have to disagree with your statements. There is no reason her purchase should be put at the bottom of any list. We'll all members with the same benefits.

Resales are put at the bottom, they process direct buys first. I was told that directly. I see no problem with that. We saved money, so why not be inconvenienced a little. Not really a big problem. We also don't receive the "goodie" given to people buying directly, but everything else was the same.

When we received our cards, they had the start date at the old members. Has that changed?
