No Cards!

Since you asked, yes, I do think you are being unreasonable. These things take time, and, frankly, purchases like yours probably are and should be put to the bottom of the list in terms of priority. I hope you get your cards, but I would give it another couple of months since there has been a lot of activity involving direct purchases from Disney lately that should receive higher priority (IMHO). However, if you are worried, I would continue to politely follow up. Some discounts may require a membership card, but if I am not mistaken they can produce temporary cards for you at the DVC office on-site if I recall correctly.

WOW... that's a little harsh.. don't you think :sad2:

Despite the advice above to the contrary, you are going to need the temp card if your plastic ones don't arrive. Your room key will say member, but all cards for rooms using points say that, and many venues are asking for the actual DVC membership card to ensure that only members get their discounts. Other venues don't care, but I'd hate to see you disappointed...especially if you're hoping for the discount on a big-ticket item.

You might call member administration and see if there is an alternative to you going to SSR and picking the temp card up. Perhaps they could mail it to you. If they won't/can't, I'd make the trek to SSR to be safe.

Not at all. Businesses give priority to the customers that buy directly from them all the time and I don't see anything wrong with it. If I choose to go out of town to buy my automobile, I would expect my in-town dealer who I bypassed to service the car, but not to give me priority over customers that bought directly from that dealer. This is the same type of deal.

I agree. When someone buys direct from Disney, Disney is making money. If someone buys direct from resale, Disney doesn't make a dime, but still has to process things, which costs them money.

Maybe they should charge resale contract buyers a 'processing fee' to get them into the system, to pay for the books, cards, manpower to process everything, and expenses to mail everything out. Maybe $50 or so would be about right.

We recieved our plastic member cards yesterday. We purchase on Jan. 31st and our deed was recorded on Feb. 21st. IT does take some time.

Disney currently charges a ROFR fee. If that doesn't cover their costs, they could raise that but there is some money already in the pipeline.

Maybe its true, as an earlier poster said, that Disney processess resales after direct sales (if that applies to issuing member cards), but I can think of alot of reasons that Disney wouldn't want to treat resales as "second class". First, every resale customer is a potential direct customer (I can't be the only one who added more points direct after my initial resale purchase). Second, even if DVC is a separate corporate entity from Disney, Disney is making WAY more than a dime off of a resale buyer--that buyer is in the parks, the restaurants, the gift shops, and planning the next 10 years of WDW visits. I don't think its lost on DVC or Disney that resale buyers are Disney customers. Frankly, since the member number is assigned within 10 days of a resale closing, it just sounds like the company printing the cards got overloaded, not that DVC was backlogged in processing new resale members.

Your room key will say DVC Member. Some venues will accept that for the DVC discount, and some will not. Each outlet has their own rules, and like most things Disney, it often depends on which CM you talk to.

As far as I know, they will not take the membership number alone. I'm sure they have no way of knowing whether you're giving them a real number or not. The retail and food outlets can't access the DVC computer system.

Increasingly, places are asking for the blue card, which is why I recommended picking up the temporary card to avoid disappointment.

Sorry to beat a dead horse but....where can you get a temporary card? We purchased just 2 weeks ago and have not rec'd our paperwork to sign and return let alone our cards. We plan on purchasing APs while down at WDW in MAy as we as upgrading from MYW tickets we will have. I actually just got off the phone with MS and while they suggested purchasing over the phone, when I told her about the upgrading she felt that as long as I had my member # I would be OK (along with ID) as they could 'look it up'. But to others points above, some places might not have that access and I would feel better with a temporary card. We are staying at SSR which is our home resort - can I get one there??

Thanks!

You sure can. To get temp cards go to the DVC sales center at SSR.

We got our replacement cards yesterday. I think the theory that they run cards in batches is probably accurate.
