NO Carb at WDW

This may be an impossible question, but my hubby is on NO carbs at all (or as close to zero carbs as possible). He knows it will be very difficult, but he knows what to do at mealtimes. My question is, are there any no carb snacks at WDW that anyone can think of? Cheese plates? Maybe a meat-based snack? Chicken skewers? I can't think of any no-carb snacks anywhere on property, but I figured I would ask you experts.

That's going to be tricky :)

I've low carbed since Christmas (lost 20 so far!)--but there's NO WAY I'm doing that at Disney.

Maybe some nuts somewhere?

Tricky - I know. Maybe impossible for the snacks. His diabetes is in much better control since being on restricted carbs. Thanks for the quick response.

I seem to remember a stand in the MK that sold fruit and veggies. Can he do apples? I work with a student with diabetes and she can do a small apple because the fiber balances out the carbs. Otherwise, can you pack things...like string cheese, crystal lite packs, carrots, etc?

You may want to check on the disabilities board as there are lots of people with diabetes over there to give you tips.

Turkey legs? Certainly not healthy, but I'd think they would be no, or very low carb.

I think I saw bagged snack mini-carrots at Seasons in Epcot. Also, the grilled salmon there is delicious and should be no-carb. France c/s has a cheese plate. Starring Rolls has huge meat-filled sandwiches...remove the bread and you're good to go.

There are small bags of nuts, etc in many of the stores (Chip & Dale Snack Co.).

Have had a hard time lately finding the cheese & cracker snack packs that used to be available in the resorts. Best bet for this is Boulangerie Patisserie in France. They also have a personal size ham & cheese quiche.

I know I've seen packs of "diabetic friendly" cookies (Divvies ???). Liberty Square Market has big pickles.

I would also ask at CS places if they have a Diabetic menu. I know I've seen them pull out special menus from behind the counter for dietary needs.

Fruits are high in carbs, as are carrots.

Nope, barbeque sauce is full of sugar

Crackers are high in carbs he quiche would be good but you couldn't eat the crust...I love the crust...

Op, if you didn't want to pack snacks, he may be better off "controlling" carbs (avoiding concentrated sweets and starches) and maybe just trying "good" carbs like fresh fruits and nuts.

For snacks at WDW it is virtually impossible to low carb/no carb. Like your husband, I am diabetic, and my numbers are MUCH better when I eliminate carbs from my diet. It's easy at meals, of course, and Disney makes it even easier, as I can talk to the chef in the table service restaurants. But snacks? I've tried for years to find low carb, satisfying snacks at WDW and been unsuccessful.

That said, we do so much walking at Disney that I find that I tolerate some limited carbs better than I usually do. I find that I can have the carrots, the fresh fruit, and occassionally some popcorn even, all without blowing my numbers.

HTH, and please post if you do manage to find any low carb snacks!

Good Luck. I tip my hat to your husband. I could not imagine no carbs while on vacation although my Dr. would probably think it was a good idea.:cool1::banana:

Found this on the DIS Snack list for DDP:

Pinocchio Village Haus --
Chip & Dale salted almonds $2.50 :)

I know the crackers & the crust are carbs. I think you are going to have to share or toss parts of some items. Point was, at least you could get a small cheese selection.

Without knowing how WDW prepares food I don't know how you are going to be able to go 100% no carb (even nuts have some carbs)... which is why I suggested asking for special dietary requirements menus.

Turkey legs are smoked not bbq'd. No sauce.

WDW does not post nutritional guides anywhere that anybody has ever seen.

If you must be as close to zero carb as possible I strongly suggest a grocery run & packing your own snacks.

This is not new, may be out of date a bit in places, but maybe a help....

I try to stay low carb while there, tough to be no carb. For a snack (dessert), take a look at the no sugar, no crust cheesecake at the Boardwalk Bakery. Not sure if no, but pretty sure it is low. :woohoo:

Finding No Carb snacks in the park will be tough since your options are limited.

Have you considered bringing your own snacks to the park? You can use a grocery service like WeGoShop or Garden Grocer and have the food delivered right to your hotel room.

Thanks, everyone. I knew you would be a wealth of knowledge. This helps a lot.

Of course I thought of bringing snacks, but that is not as much fun. I hadn't even considered the pickles. And buying packages of nuts in the shops is a great idea. We'll try France counter service and see what cheese options they have. I know animal kingdom sells fresh fruit (which I know has carbs), but maybe I can find fresh veggies, which should have limited carbs.

This is dating to December, 2007, so it may not be current.

MK: In either Liberty Square or Adventureland (border of the two?), there is an open marketplace that sells fresh fruits, pickles (that was odd to me--can't stand the things! *LOL*), and a few veggies, I think. I just wanted a piece of fruit, so I didn't pay too much attention to the other items.

DHS: Simiilar marketplace area near the entrance to Fantasmic! I never have learned the street names and locations--and I'm from California! There are a number of outdoor stands in that area, some have fresh produce. Most have processed foods.

I'm sure there are others, but those are what I remember at the moment. :)

I've been low carb for a while, although I have not been back to WDW since I started (and plan on seriously falling off the wagon while I'm there). I did have a couple of ideas, though:

A Caesar salad, hold the croutons please, is one of your very best options. I don't know what brand of dressing Disney uses, but most Caesars are lower than nearly any other type of dressing. Really hungry? Add the grilled chicken.

Non-BBQ'd turkey legs are a great snacking option since they make a good finger food.

Get your burgers wherever there is a fixings bar. Ditch the bread and wrap the burger in lettuce instead. Watch the condiments. Many pickles and all pickle relishes DO have carbs as they are processed with sugar.

For true zero carbs, you are pretty much limited to meat, real cheese, pork rinds, and lettuce. One large egg is about 1 carb. One long stalk of celery is 0.8 carbs. One serving of almonds (about 25 nuts) is 2 net carbs (5 total carbs but 3 are fiber which do not impact blood sugar).

I'd be cautious about cheese. Real cheese is fine, but so-called American is usually a "processed cheese food product" and is much higher carb.

Hope it works out for him!
