No Buy September

I'm here!:yay: But, life is crazy today! After today, I only have two other days off before WDW, so its nutso. I also have dye on my head, so I doubt I'll have time to post my budget, but it will be on tonight or tomorrow!;)

8 Books for DD's (made a deal with them that I'd buy them one new paperback book a week if they finished the previous one-worked really well in August, DD10 read the entire 1600 page Fablehaven series and DD9's mowing through the Humphrey the Hamster series)

These books sound great. Would they be too hard for a 7 year old in 2nd grade? I would like to get them for my niece.

Today was $0.

The Fablehaven's are equivalent to Harry Potter and pretty dense, but the Humphrey series is very accessible and written in first person (and very funny). Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a good choice, too, for a second grader-also funny.

We leave for the beach in 30 days. I am trying to be really good this month so we will have extra money to spend. Only vacation we have had this year and boy are we looking forward to it.

September
1 $32 (Food Lion...Triple Qs Saved $68 and got good stuff for beach)
2 $33.25 (Publix ...Needed Pepsi/chips/Boar's Head Saved $26.88)
3 $9.68 (Burger King/Dinner for Family)
4 $133.81: $43.55 (Publix... Saved $34.89) $18.63 (Food Lion... Saved $25.69) $32.69 (Walgreen's... Saved 17.62 + $3 RR) $28 (Hotwings...start of Football Season) $11 (Staples... needed new budget ledger plus a some cheap straws, bandaids, and dish sponge for beach trip)

Okay, I have a confession to make. I have noticed these thread titles previously and thought they were about cooking for the month and not having to spend $ every week on groceries (except milk,bread,fresh fruit...), just using what's in your pantry :rotfl:

Anyways, I'm totally on board to list my non-bill spending. Hoping to find out how I work more hours every year but still don't have much savings.

9/1 $0
9/2 $93 groceries
9/3 $28 Children's Place and lunch
9/4 $29 Mexican restaurant

I am in for the month. I need to work out my budget and see what is left. LOL

I am now a single mom on alimony and child support, so I have to learn to stretch it. Sub jobs have started so I will have some income. Yeah!

9/1 $25 almost nothing, but last day to buy brick in kids name for new school.

I'm in again! I am really glad I did No Buy August. September has lots of exceptions, but I'm hoping to offset at least part of those with some more ebay/craigslist sales. DH and I will be working a lot of extra hours this month, so we'll just have to do our best not to order pizza and go out for meals.

BUDGET
Groceries - 300
Other (clothes, diapers, etc) - 150
Dining Out - 110
Gas/Parking - 130 (this amount based on work paying my parking this month, there is a small chance they won't, then I'll need to raise budget)
My Fun Money - 50

EXCEPTIONS
* Fun Money - $50 each for DH & I. I'll just track mine here so I can remember how much I have.
* Sister's Birthday - $75
* Baby gift for friend - $40
* Photo Software - $260 - We put this off from last month, but photography is too important to us to keep using the free software we have. Last week we had another glitch that lost 100 photos, even though we back up everything. Photo is our main hobby (other than traveling to Disney - HA!) and we don't take DD to get her pictures done - we do them ourselves.
* Passport - something else I put off from last month

I feel like I'm forgetting something...
Anyway, here's today:
9/1 - $9 groceries

what a good idea!
Well I guess I did bad today, I spent $60 getting my hair done (but I needed it, haven't had done since April and BTS next week).

Trying to think of what I have to budget for besides the normal (rent, food, gas, etc)...

$25 Copay for DD's Dr. visit this month
$30 costume for halloween. Anyone think I could find a nice tink one cheaper? $30 is still a bit of money for me to pay for something she will only wear once.
$40 for snapfish pictures

Thats all I could think of right now.

I think I will attempt this! Very hard to actually come up with a budget as DH's paycheck varies each week and it can be by a lot. I will start by trying for as many 0 days as I can and write what I do spend.

9-1: 0 :) ($35-10 for parking, 20 for food, 5 towards DS tshirt) took him to see WWE Smackdown tonight, but the money was actually from Aug. DS is autistic and never wants to go anywhere so when he asked last week to go it was a YES and any amount of $ would have been worth it!!!:yay::banana::cool1:

Okay, I think that this is totally awesome!! I will try to update daily, but at the very least will keep track and update every few days. September can be an expensive month with mine and DH anniversary (we do have a gc for dinner though), hair appointment, school fees, soccer fees and DS14 birthday.

1- $54 Olive Garden to meet Mom's new bf, command performance but fun!

Okay, here's my attempt to be accountable for my spending this month. Maybe if I write it down here, I will second-guess my next impulse purchase (until I go to Target, lol!:rotfl2:). I really need to be conservative this month. DD and I have a Disneyland trip coming up in October:woohoo: and SO and I have a Las Vegas trip in November. :cool1:

1. Ice coffee $2.15, lunch Carl's Jr $4.95, groceries $40.46 (saved $43.23 coupons/sale items...:banana::banana:)
2. dinner with friends at IHOP, $12.02(kids eat free from 4-10 pm...yeah!)
3. $0....yes!
4. Sonic 3.74, Borders Books 14.39, gas 29.60
5. Dinner out $0 (SO paid), Casino $20 (SO put $10 in a 3¢ slot machine and in 2 minutes won $250!!!!....me, not so lucky, lol)
6. $2 newspaper, $14.83 groceries (need a few things for a potluck dish for a BBQ on Labor Day)
7. $0
8. Walgreens $10.45 (less $5 RR)
9. $0
10. groceries $43.06 (saved $43.61 sales/coupons)

Hi,
I have lurked here some. I am not good at planning. I am good at paying bills (about ) on time. I'm trying to be more choosey about where discretionary funds go, get things for the future not as much immediate gratification and impulse stuff.

There have been very few $0 days or no buy days for me recently.

Here is spending tracking:
Sept. 1: $1.75 (or maybe $2) laundry at laundromat, $1.46 2 cups of Big Red, $1.59 a fish sandwich I stayed out of the nearby grocery plus this and that store. According to a Newsweek article that store Co. is doing well enough.
:rolleyes1

Exceptions for me this month:
Oil Change & Tire Rotation $86.46/ ($86.46 spent)
Disney Anniversary Trip (3 days, sept 25-27-already paid for in July/Aug with the exception of gas for the trip)/($0 spent)
8 Books for DD's/ ($5.77 spent using gift card so far)
$200 for landscaping/ ($0 spent)
$84 fall tennis dues/ ($0 spent)
$150 repair stove/ (it might be less, the broiler won't come on)

Sept. 1: $191.70 groceries, $86.46 oil change(exempted) 35.02 gas
Sept. 2 $9.10 Subway :headache:
Sept. 3 $84 tennis (exempted)

I'm going to help my MIL this month declutter and update her house to put in on the market; that's going to keep me really busy, it's a big house and they've lived there since 1982 (they spend most of their time at their lake house now and she's ready to sell it). It's either going to make a good relationship better or I'm going to be :sad2: for doing it...

No good deed goes unpunished, right?

I LOVE to declutter, clutter makes her happy, it's going to be like matter meeting anti-matter: "Throw it out," "no it's still good!" "Who cares, throw it out anyway!"

9/1 - 32.25 gas, 15.27 on chinch bug killer, 5.67 cigarettes (please don't flame me for my terrible habits. Any tips on quitting?) The chinch bug killer is regularly 25.00, so I SCORED!
54.09 Baby Shower Gift TOTAL: 101.61

9/2 - Brought my breakfast/lunch, brought my iced tea PLUS a friend is staying with us and brought us a CASE of wine as his "hotel fee!" (and it is all stuff I would NEVER buy due to the cost.) Looks like today will be a zero day! PLUS, I deposited a check for 200.00 owed from a friend, so 200.00 I also shaved 15.95 off of our monthly cable bill, as well as 25.00 off of my cell phone plan!

TOTAL FOR MONTH: 95.39

I'm doing really well calorically today, too.

Tomorrow might be a doozy - I need new bras and knickers, and Macy's and Kohl's are having sales on them (Macy's, buy 2, get one free - Kohl's, buy one get one half off-) I also need to buy some fabric for a sink skirt in the bathroom. Wish me luck in finding deals!

I am in again for September. This month I will be spending more because I have to spend a couple of days in Chicago to see my neurologist and have some testing done.

Total discretionary budget for September is $600
Groceries = $150
Auto/Gas = $50
Giving = $50
Medical = $10
Chicago Trip = $175 / $13 left
Eating Out = $40
Misc. = $125 / $90 left
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
9/1 $152 Chicago trip for gas, hotel and food
9/2 $10 Chicago trip for food and bus fare; $17 Misc. to buy a pair of pants since I failed to pack properly. $18 Misc. Disney store for Christmas presents

Sept 1-$0

Doing a Walgreens run today and also picking up some clothes for DD for fall, like a new coat, after that.

Count me in! I have tried this one other month and bombed miserably, but effective 9/1/09, our family is on a strict one year budget with a plan to save a hefty sum. I am not going to lay out all of my categories here like others do, because I have a budget spreadsheet I am tracking all income/expenses and savings on. But, I sure would like to come here for support, and for accountability so that I stick to my budget categories. The goal in our household is to save enough money in the next year to: 1) take a three week vacation to Hawaii next summer, 2) put 10K down on a new vehicle, 3) complete some construction work on our front porch and 4) finish landscaping our front yard. So, I guess my "no buy" commitment is really to save a specific amount this month. I hope it is okay that I am altering the "no bouy" concept to meet my situation.
