No Buy June

This month I really want to try to stick with it; June is my last month in NYC and we are moving on June 30th. I basically only want to track the food spending; it's my big weak spot. I get a lot of snacks and fast food out and don't track any of it. I DO know that I am spending well within my means based on checking my bank and credit card accounts each week to get a savings - owe on credit cards total. I want to be able to compare the food spending here to the food spending in NOLA in July.

Just wanted to give you a WARM welcome to the South!:goodvibes

I live 45 minutes North of NOLA. I trust you have been to New Orleans before...in July......if not....well...it can get a might bit warm and sticky in the summer. Especially for Northerners. (My DH is from upstate NY and his family refuses to visit in the summer)

Again :welcome:

Hi Everyone!

Paula - I laughed so hard about not having to buy a bday gift for the Queen :rotfl: For some unknown reason, we celebrated two weekends ago... go figure.

Well, last month was a complete and utter bust. I kept on budget for the controllable things and ended up with over $3000 in unplanned items :scared1: We replaced our toilets, we fixed our deck, we replaced our dishwasher, we fixed DH's 3 wk old motorbike and most recently, we paid $1000, yes $1000, on new brakes, etc for the car. The only item in budget was the dishwasher :confused3 So, on with a new month. After all, this can't happen two months in a row right?

The only thing not budgeted is property tax due this month. That money is set aside. I also have a huge amount of frozen meat in the house so I'm looking at coming in below budget on groceries.

groceries $540 $500 left
gas $500
cat food $90
hockey $500
vet check up $150
parent's anniversary $30
fathers day $60
roller blades for DS6 doing so well in school thisyear $80
van servicing $500
timing belt replacement on car $500 (yes, despite the $1000 bill last month, we still need work done)
my spending $150
DH spending $150

Total: $3240 (so much for the goal of staying below $2800 ... at least its realistic ...)

1 - groceries $40

I'm going to give it a try this month! Left to my own devices, I'm a cheapskate but unfortunately I'm too easily influenced by friends and family who suggest eating out/ordering in! :lmao: I'm hoping this thread will help my willpower to save the $ to spend later this summer when we go on vacation. :cool1:

I skipped doing this in May because we went to Disney but I"m back in for June.

Budget is $800 for day to day expenses.

groceries- $250-- $219.15 left
eating out- $150
clothes- $200 (for Hanna Andersson sale this week)
entertainment- $30
other- $30
Gas- $140

June 1- Groceries $30.85

I'd like to post my goals for this month if that is ok. I'm going to try to stick to my list at the grocery store, which I plan to hit once a week. I have a friend coming into town for a few days, and also the in-laws, both parties are staying with us, however I plan to eat out only twice while they are here. We are planning a family day at our local amusement/water park later this month, so I'm sure we will eat there also. Other than that I want to cut out the fast food trips, as they seem to add up the most un-necessary spending for me each month.

Ok here goes, my goal for June:
1-2 fast food
2-dinners out
1-dinner at amusement park
stick to grocery list & eat lunch and dinner at home the entire month.

I'm not planning on "buying" anything this month, other than new baseball cleats for 2 boys. I spend a lot at the grocery store each month, for June I'd like to come in below $800.

Ok, that's pretty much my goal for June, I will check back in a few days and see how I'm doing. :thumbsup2 Good luck to everyone.

This is such a great idea! I've never read these threads before, I saw the one for May just never looked into it! I'll have to give it some thought and then maybe post my budget, unfortunately, June is a busy month for me so I'll probably have to spend a lot, but if I write everything down and post it here, maybe it will help me not spend anything extra! :)

I just wanted to report that as of 1:15 PM Eastern Standard time, I hadn't bought anything! HA! Okay okay, I am not really going to report every little "milestone".

However, I did want to post to say that in addition to having a no-buy June, I have decided to sock away $10 a week (already did it for this week) until our Halloween trip. That'll give me another $210 spending money that I hadn't planned on. I can use it for a nice dinner out then, or just give it to my Mom since her birthday is about a week after our trip.

I still have buying for my daughter's birthday THIS month to contend with, eeek!

Everytime I don't do this it comes back to haunt me! So, I am signing on for June! I skipped March and May and suffered big time when the bills came rolling in.

May was the first No Buy month that I got through, so now onto June! We do have some things coming up, like father's day (need presents for my DH and both grandfathers), dd's friend's birthday party on June 10, and mine on June 14.

June 1: $24 on ebay (buying party favors, etc for dd's party at end of July)

Hi! I am going to try this month also. I have been spending wayyyyy to much. DD is in college and I need to put money aside for Fall semester books, etc. She is taking 2 summer classes which cost us almost $3K with books (and that is with a scholarship that covers about 2/3 of tuition) ahhh:scared1:

Groceries: $350.00 (we usually spend $530-550....trying to cut back and eat out of our freezer and pantry)
Household:$50.00 (again usually 100-150)
Eating out: $50.00
Clothes: $100.00 (this is where we spend wayyy to much. DD and I love to go shopping and I am a sucker for cute clothes. I am hoping for less than $100. DD is on board and agrees with me thankfully):)
Misc. and entertainment: $100.00

It will be hard, but I am willing to give it a go! :cool1::goodvibes:banana:

An exception is Father's Day with $50 gift and eat out at $45.

I am new at this but we are really trying to buckle down and get a good budget. So this month is just going to be our record and see where we are spending money so we can cut out somethings and properly make a budget.

I have a set budget for fixed things but need one for food, gas, etc...

I am going to set an overall budget of 800$ for the 5 of us and than break it down in categories starting next month. I guess this is the best way to start?

Budget for June: $400

Giving $50
Groceries $145 / $90.91 left
Gas $25 / $5 left
Medical $15 / $11 left
Eating out $15
Misc. $20 / $14 left
Vacation $130
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I ran errands today so it turned into a big spending day. Not the way to start the month. Particularly since I stopped back at the Disney Store in the mall to buy some plastic glasses I saw last week but did not have any money left in May to buy - in my own defense the glasses were 50% off.

There is a regular Target near my church so I was stopping by on the way home from church on Sunday's but when my mother found out I was shopping on Sunday she was mortified. So now I just shop there every other week on the way to Wednesday night program.;)

Survived the day without casualties, haha. I only spent money on my morning Diet Coke (non-negotiable) and some fabric paint for an end of the school year project (will get reimbursed in a week or so).
