No Buy January

I am hanging my head in shame. I went to Target and the 75% toys did me in.

I'm right there with ya, I couldn't stand to hear my kids fight anymore so I bought a second one of the game they were fighting over.

1/7 $387 vet, was not in the budget nor expecting it :headache:
1/8 $3.84 DH went to convenience store :headache:
1/9 $4.08 groceries (still within budget)
1/10 $218 plane ticket to Vegas for last minute Disney trip...I mentioned that was in the budget...right???:rolleyes1

1/10: $35.70 on eating out both lunch and dinner :rolleyes1 It was planned! Do I at least get points for that??

Yes, I say you get points for that! There's something to be said about planning and staying in budget even when going out. Good for you! :goodvibes

(I, on the other hand, can plan but rarely stay under budget in this category - can't I just tell all my friends I'll go out with them in February? :rotfl: )

I decided to use salsa I already had at home in my dinner tonight instead of buying a tomato from across the street. $0.50 saved there! :thumbsup2 And BTW, my seven-layer dip was amazing! :woohoo: Who says you can't have dip for dinner? Fiber in the refried beans, calcium in the cheese, good fats in the olives, and lycopene in the salsa, right? :lmao:

Don't feel bad, I've spent 3 hours on Ebay tonight. I haven't added up the damage yet. My Dad gave the baby money for Christmas. The bulk of it is going into turning the junk room into a play room (new paint, new trim, carpet, shelving - practical stuff). The rest is going to Ebay I think, the baby needs winter clothes and all the stores seem wiped out. I guess they needed room for their bathing suits :confused3

What is up with that?!?!

Have you checked out anything like Once Upon a Child? I get most of Juliette's clothes there ... I can't wait to sell the rest of the junk I have here.

Just had to say I love the newest picture of your sweetie!!!!! So happy for you!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

I had told myself if I didn't find Mr. Right by the time I turned 35 I was going to start the process to adopt from China (figuring motherhood had more of a time-frame limit than romantic love). Since they're no longer accepting single parents, it's a good thing I found him (at 32). Still haven't ruled out adopting from China down the road...if for some reason we can't get pregnant, rather than try fertility treatments, that's the route we'll take.

Our resale shops aren't a good deal at all compared to Ebay. Sometimes you go in there and see stuff that is still in the store, for more than what the store has it for?!?! I can't wait until yard sale season starts!

I am getting ready to win a new sweater for next year, it is a size 18-24 month, Gymboree and it will be $8. $8? I paid $6 for a cheap looking target sweater on sale the other day. Ebay rocks!

I love her to bits, if you have a way to adopt I would. To watch them go from scared and confused to happy as a clam because people are constantly loving on them..it's great :)

I am not sure where her sister will be from, but that is why I am on the budget boards, saving up the $$ for DD#2!

2:15PM I get the results.

 :scared: :worried:

did me in too :rolleyes1

Yesterday was NOT a good money day! LOL

Spent:
$57.xx at Meijer on groceries ~ in the budget

$10.xx at CVS on things including 12 12pks of soda ~ in the budget

$159 at Sofa Express for an upholstered glider chair ~ not in the budget but needed and it was perfect (Sofa Express is closing and it was marked $172, I offered $150 and they took it). Chair was normally $400.

$83.12 at Target but $6 of that was fruit(groceries) the rest was toys for the kids for Christmas. ~ not planned as I was going to wait but they had toys I've been wanting to get for the kids for a long time and the price was always too steep. I was very very good and picky about what I bought (huge improvement over last year! YAY me!! )

$17.20 at TGIFridays ~ $2.20 over budget because DH ordered me a beer...I rarely order a drink so not sure why he did that?

$1.29 at Circle K for a drink for my DD to keep her happy while I shopped ~ not in the budget but well worth the investment! ;) (used a .50 off coupon on the drink! LOL)

I shamefully put both Target and Sofa Express on my Visa that I'm trying to pay down. :sad2:

Today I have to go buy my DD a pair of sneakers since hers have disappeared off the face of the earth. :confused3

So off to shower and book it over to Target befor eshe has gym at 11. Hopefully they'll have something on clearance that fits her.

January 10: $3.00 (unbudgeted) A friend called and said that she was going to a Zumba class, latin type aerobics :woohoo: and did I want to go. I have been looking into doing something, yoga etc....it is so pricey. For this price I couldn't say no. I loved it! Will be going every week, maybe twice. What a small price to pay for some good cardio work and a lot of fun. I must admit I tried to talk everybody into pie afterwards....they declined.
Party poopers.:lmao:

Jan. 9th - returned gift to Target used money from return to buy campbells soup and soap for the kids. I walked by clearance toy section but did not buy anything. :cool1:

Jan. 10th - DH bought salad at grocery store - grocery budget

Tonight we got invited to surprise Birthday party for DH best friend. Did not budget dinner or gift. So $60 not planned. :headache:

01/01: $0
01/02: $17.84
01/03: $0
01/04: $45.37
01/05: $113.94
01/06: $0
01/07: $0
01/08: $0
01/09: $0
01/10: $11.97

Went to Target yesterday looking for a planner for the new year and schoolwork but didn't find anything. Kamryn needed glue sticks so I bought a pack of 12 that should last her a while. Plus I needed a little sewing kit and also got a notebook for school for me. Was starving and bought a sandwich and some chips at Wawa and now I have nothing to eat today except tomato soup in my desk. I just don't think that will cut it! Oh well....within budget so far!

Haha, you went to Zumba..?? That class made me realize that I have absolutely NO future as a salsa dancer. :rotfl2:

1/10/08 - $27.95 for 4 sleepers from Ebay & $7.75 for togo Chinese (yum!)
1/11/08 - $0 - I'm not going anywhere!

I have spent $178.95 this month and have $365.05 left to spend. Almost $100 of the 178 was bought with a WM giftcard, I am not sure how to work that into the budget. Do I count that as free money and zero out those items?

1/11:
Target: now I remember why I've been avoiding Target like the plague for months...spent another $70.xx just going in for shoes! :sad2:

Got DD shoes, nothing on clearance was her size. $14.99

2 bins for $2.78 each (marked down and very much needed)

2 matching xmas outfits for the boys for next year. $5.74 each (75% off and comes with pants so actually a bargain since I'm forever w/o the right pants for the boys outfits)

1 5T girls winter coat $6.74 (75% ) this is to sell on Ebay

2 V-day shirts (1 for each girl) $4 & $5

1 Star Wars child's action figure set (Galactica?) only 30% off but DH said was a great deal so didn't want to leave the only one $13.98 (DH is a Star Wars fanatic..nuff said )

passed up a lot of other things that I would have bought last year so while I did get impulse purchases I really did think them through. Big step forward for me.

Sofa Express~ $53 and $38.03
$53 was 3 3drawer black filing cabinets that will hold all my files and a bunch of craft items. They wanted $20 each so I offered 3 for $50.

$38.03 was 4 giant fiesta style mugs(norm $9.95 each) that I plan to use as teacher gift this coming Christmas (adding candy and a $5 GC ) and 4 square bright pictures ($59.95 norm) for the girls room. The pictures are what I was looking for (not those exactly but something for the kids rooms) and the mugs were a bonus find.

Still need to find the PO here and mail out DD's package but she has to pay for that so it's not part of my budget. ;)

Returned 2 DMV movies so should see a $38.90 credit in a week or so

Stayed home and cleaned and did laundry. That is a great way not to spend so 1/10 was $0.

1/11 is a different story - eye dr. $60, had to make a Sonic run - $1.07, and Wal-Mart - $18.76. I had better stay home the rest of the day.

Oops. Forgot that my parents invited us out for supper tonight. Dad is paying!!! Gotta love that!

Yesterday I was not so good.
I had to run into WalMart for a few grocery items and did really well in there. It was the Dollar Tree next door that killed me. I spend $23 in there on vacation items. I justified that by saying that I would have spent a lot more than that on the Disney items when we get there next week. So I called it a vacation expense.

Today is a $0 dollar day.

Almost $100 of the 178 was bought with a WM giftcard, I am not sure how to work that into the budget. Do I count that as free money and zero out those items?

I always count GCs as free money. :thumbsup2 That is, unless I received it because I returned something but then also re-spent the money in that particular budget. Does that make sense?

For my CVS ECBs, I count money OOP as part of the budget but the ECBs as free - if I buy $5 worth of toiletries and get $5 ECBs which I then spend on groceries, $5 comes out of the toiletries budget and $0 comes out of the grocery budget. This is a great way for me to "boost" my grocery budget when I run out of money in the envelope! :rolleyes1

Anyhow, I'm sure you'll figure out a way to best integrate it into your budget! :)

Hi!:) Did not post my budget as I thought I would lurk too see how this whole thing worked. Well I just got home from Wally and spent $2.95 on a package of 400 colored Christmas lights. :wizard: Now I did save $8.93 :cool1: but took it out of our of grocery money :guilty: BUT I had $$ left over from what I had budged for groceries this week even after purchasing the lights:woohoo:
Please :worship: do not be too hard on me!
