I'm a newbie, but I have followed the no buy threads for a couple of months. We have a trip coming up in June so I would like to take the next couple of months to save up a little extra. We do our household budget weekly(fri-thurs), so I will plan weekly here(it will be easier on me). I would like to shoot for 10 no buy days for the month. My first week will be 4/2-4/8. Here is the plan for the week:
25 - gas - zero left
125 - groceries/household - zero left
25 - dog
50 - misc - zero left

4/2 - Sams (42.56), Target (12.83), Aldi (17.32), Wal-mart (81.13), DD (5.00)
4/3 - Taco Bell (11.15) I really didn't want to do this, but we were so busy getting ready for Easter
4/4 - Zero Day!!
4/5 - I did some returning today that put some money back into groceries/household and misc, but spent it at Starbucks (6.32), Wal-mart (17.25), Field Trip (2.00), McDs (3.20)
4/6 - gas (25.00), Burger King (5.68)
4/7 - Zero Day!!

Spring Break is killing me, but this is EXACTLY what I've needed to track my crazy spending habits:

4/6 – $60 (gas)
$ 86 (Home Depot for Scotts stuff for the yard)
$10 (prescript for DD6’s allergies)
$5 (dinner for me at Chick fil A on way to mtg)

4/7 – $4 (donuts on the way to the beach)
$3 (lunch at McD’s for DD)
$3 (lunch for me)

4/1 $0
4/2 $0
4/3 $0
4/4 $50 groceries
4/5 $23 Dollar Tree groceries, $70 Target vacation stuff and household items
4/6 $62 Walmart miscellaneous
4/7 $0

4 of 10 no-buy days so far.

Newbie here. Wasn't planning at all on going to Disney for close to 8-10 years, and was not planning on having a honeymoon at all after my wedding next year, but have decided to have a Disneymoon. Need to save up really hard, so this sounds like a good idea. The month has already started, and I can't remember all of what I spent, but better late than never. :)

4/1 don't remember
4/2 don't remember
4/3 55$ (dinner + bachelorette gift)
4/4 0$
4/5 0$
4/6 30$ (gas + dinner)
4/7 23$ (breakfast + groceries)

Will try to set a goal of 10 no buy days.

Quick question: Does it count as a no buy when fiancé is paying (for example, he treated me to dinner and movie on Monday)?

So Far…

I'm actually surprised that I haven't spent any money the last couple of days. I did go to Target, but I had a gift card that I got for my birthday and I didn't even spend it all :cool1: Today is not over yet, but I'm not anticipating any spending. I'm actually thinking about planning a yard sale to occupy my time either this weekend or the next. So instead of my ritual of Saturday shopping, I'll be making a little extra cash.

Quick question: Does it count as a no buy when fiancé is paying (for example, he treated me to dinner and movie on Monday)?

I would say it's up to you. I'm married and count anything that DH or my kids spend, but we pool our money.

April 1- School Fundaiser Night at Chuck E Cheese $19.06
New Moon DVD, socks for Easter Baskets and popcorn for resale at Walmart $20.36 ($5.40 for the popcorn.)
Total- $39.42 paid out
April 2- $0 ~~~I am counting this as a $0 spend day because all I spent on was taking my DD8 to the eye doctor ($60 copay) and because her eye is not getting better they had to patch it, so $12 for a patch. This to me is the same as a morgage, insurance and all that. It is a necessity. So while I am writing it down for my benefit to know where the money went, I am calling today a no spend day. Total- $72.96 It was a day off from school so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to do something with them, but we played outside (it was 86 today) and made peanut butter playdough (like at Coral Reef.)
April 3- Busy Day but financially not too bad. We did 3 eggs hunts (town, Adventure Landing and Girl Scouts) and 2 free crafts (Michael's and Home Depot) and played at the park.
$5 Donation to Make a Wish
$1.50 for a mid day slush for the kids (it was 88 degrees in upstate NY!)
$10 gas
$19.38 pizza for dinner
$1.08 New Moon DVD(second copy, this one is for charity.)
$4.50 New Disney Family Stickers for the van, mine are beyond peeling. This is not a necessity, I know, but I bought them anyway. I got them off eBay for a lot less then the ones I bought in Disney.
Total- $41.46
April 4-
Walmart (razors and medicine) $18
Easter Dinner Out (with coupons) $24
Ice Cream for Dessert $3
Groceries $99
Total- $144
April 5- $0
April 6-
$61.95 Produce and meat (shopping on Easter night, these dept. were lacking)
$109 dance tuition
$11 Recital Trophies
$15 gas
Total- $196.95
April 7- $0

Total No Buy Days--- 3

Total Spent- $497.79 (minus $72.96 medical)

Goals = Spend $650 (or less) and have at least 15 $0 days. Also...to only eat out once this month. (Unless we go out of town to visit family, because then we basically have to eat fast food a little.)

1st = $52 (groceries)
2nd = $36 (gas for husband's car)
3rd = $0
4th = $0
5th = $0
6th = $0
7th = $0

Total so far = $78

Zero dollar days = 5/15

It is just DH and I and we spend about $160 a month on groceries and other household necessities. I shop at 3 local grocery stores. One of which has fantastic produce prices (for example they have apples on sale this week for .49 a lb. and strawberries for .99 a lb. (last week it was .69 a lb.). I go to the Dollar Tree and Target as well. We used to spend $400 a month. We haven't sacrificied our food quality or variance in meals either. I also love to bake and bake at least once a week, so those materials are included in our budget as well. We don't have any children, just a cat. It seems like from what I've been reading about people's grocery budgets the East coast prices seem higher. We are in the suburbs of Chicago so our costs are not as high as the city prices. With a baby added into the mix I would guess it would go up another $100 or so between formula/diapers/baby food, etc. Add another child into there and I would say $50. But that's for the prices around me. :confused3 I also only buy meat when it's on sale and base my meals around that. We always keep at least 3 different fruits and fresh veggies on hand at all time.

Which Burb do you live in? There is a DISmeet next weekend at D2D at Woodfield, if you are interested! What grocery store are you talking about? Just curious! I love Joe Caputo, but I think you are talking about some other one.

I live in the midwest. Our grocery store has things priced pretty high. But I'm not about to drive all over town. I hate shopping and like to do it all in one swoop. I make one walmart/target run a month (they are literally across the street from each other.) And I go to Costco when we have coupons or run out of paper products.

I cannot imagine planning meals around what's on sale. No thanks. We like to each white meat a couple times a week and red meat a couple times a week. So I buy those things a lot and they aren't cheap, that's for sure. I also buy the better quality chicken and the leaner beef so that raises the cost a bit. To me, that's totally worth it.

goal - 11. 7 left to conquer!

I've been on a roll - but the roll is ending today. bought gas this morning and I need to stop at the store and pick up a few things. Hoping this grocery trip will come in under $15, but it will depend on the price of shrimp.

I'm so excited that I only have 7 left to conquer. Being organizeed is actually empowering! (Now I feel like I should knock on some wood or something.)

4/1 - $14.93 cat food/litter

4/8 - $263.00 balance due on CSA membership (I knew this was coming but still listing it since it's not a regular bill)

DP treated herself to lunch & iced coffee yesterday, so now I am torn between being good and eating a can of soup I have here or going out & getting lunch with my co-workers. I know in the spirit of "No Buy" I should just eat the soup, but I really want Chipotle! What would you do?
