No Blue Bayou...

My DH and I are going to DLR in March, and probably staying at the Candy Cane Inn. We will have been married about 10 months, and we went last March, but with both of our families. We'll be there for 3 days. I'm trying to think of some really memorable things to do. I've been to Disneyland a LOT (though never as a couples thing) and he's only been a few times. We love the Blue Bayou, but it will be closed! Any second choices on a restaurant from anyone for a special meal? Any other ideas for really cool things we could do together to make it an awesome trip?

Dinner at Napa Rose seems to be a favorite. Dh and I have yet to eat there but by most accounts it seems like a winner. You could also try balcony fantasmic seatings. We've only done riverside since balcony was booked up. It's not really a special "meal" if you're thinking of meal as 4 basic food groups. But if you've got a sweet tooth like me, I would definitely consider dessert a meal unto itself.

Get your portrait sketched with pastels in New Orleans Square! Not at all expensive if you leave out the frame - just buy a frame when you go home!

If you are at the parks over a weekend, I'd suggest The Vineyard Room at DCA. They are only open Friday, Saturday, or Sunday evenings. We have never not had a wonderful time there. If you enjoy wines, I think their waitstaff does a fine job of wine pairings with the 3 or 4 course meal. I'd even suggest that you ask for Mark or Jeff to be your server, both are excellent.

We'll be there in March too! When are you going? Our trip is 3/25-4/2. However, I haven't been to DL in about 18 years, and the rest of the family (DH, DD and DS) have never been! So it's basically brand new to us! I was SO looking forward to trying the Blue Bayou, but alas, it's just not meant to be. Guess that just means more character meals instead...

I had an amazing dinner at Storytellers at the Grand Californian. I got a delicious filet mignon, and salad. It was better than the steak I had at Granvilles (and paid a lot more for) earlier in my trip.

Thanks for all the hints and tips friends! We are going the March 9th-11th (Weds-Friday) and I hope to get a decent spot to see the fireworks from (first and probably only time for the 50th) Friday night. We'll see... I need to do my research, I guess. I am considering all of the places you suggested! Another one I like (for a quick lunch) is the Mission Tortilla Factory in CA. At the side they sell packs of the fresh tortillas they give as samples, as well as some other Mexican food. One afternoon last March our whole family filled up on those fresh tortillas and butter/honey. They were amazing! I also loved the Cobb Salad and the Fettucine Alfredo at that place in Main Street as you're heading into Tomorrowland. All the times I've been to Disneyland, and last November was the first time I ate there! (Which may explain why I don't know what it's called...?) The place where they do breakfast with the characters I think, and/or birthdays. I don't know, it was just VERY tasty.

Every where in Disney is special, it's Disney!!! Ok, seriously, never eaten there but I here Napa Rose is good for romantic stuff. I also hear the Fantasmic seating stuff is really good and has good desserts, which you might opt for instead of a nice dinner. Fireworks...get there about 2-2 1/2 hours before they start and you can get a spot right in front of the castle. Grab dinner and sit down to eat. Bring some cards or something. SO worth it so you can see the effects on the castle!
