This will be our first time to stay at Fort Wilderness and I am needing to know average travel times from place to place on foot. We will not have bikes or a golf cart. We will be in a Class A DP and want to be close to the pool for mid day breaks so we will probably book a Premium site. We will have a car for transportation to the parks but on our 2 MK days I would like to take the boat launch to rope drop. We will have 2 grandchildren with us, age 3 and 5, in strollers in case little legs get tired. How much time would it take to walk to the Marina from the furthest Premium loop? Alternatively, how often do the internal buses run and would waiting on the bus be quicker than walking? I am also wondering about average travel time on foot from a Premium site to the pool and to mug refill stations. Is it doable on foot?

butterfly8, we stayed in lop 1400 last year, a short walk to the camp fire sing along and the meadows, between 5 to 10 minutes with a 12 year old in tow. Internal buses run on a loop from the outpost to the marina. From the 1400 loop, to the marina was about a 20 minute walk and about half a mile or so. Usually we waited no more than 10 minutes for a bus in the morning during our stay in Feb. It depends, if you miss a bus it could be awhile as they hit the other end to turn around.
The fort is VERY doable on foot. Just expect to occasionally wait, and not be in a rush and all will be good.

You can always request a loop close to the marina. Looks like 400 & 700 are the closest premiums.

Walked to/from the 2000 loop to the dock- 30 minutes pushing a lit stroller. Walked the running path from Wilderness Lodge to the 2000 loop and took close to an hour. All and all, the holiday calories were burned off!
It was a pleasure to interact with others and view the decorations on the way... even had a cat in a camper looking out at us everyday. It was one of the best parts of staying at the Fort- all the camaraderie.
I googled the distance walking from the dock to the midway point of the 2000 loop- around 1.3 miles.

Thank you all so much. Since I posted this this morning we had a brainstorm and decided to buy a bike trailer for the granddaughters to ride in and bring our bikes, so now we'll have the option to walk, ride or catch the bus. I feel better now knowing we'll have options!

Yes sidewalks are present along all the main roads. Along with 1400, 600 loop is also an option literall just across canal from movie site and short walk to the Meadows.

As long as you don't mind a little walking it shouldn't be an issue. We have been to the fort 2 times (3rd one in Nov 2016). First time DW did get a golf cart for a couple of the days but it really wasn't all that necessary. It was nice though to be able to drive around and see what was around us. Second time we were there, we were in the 1400 loop. Nice Central location. not to far from most everything. Buses are good and regular too. Either way, bus, cart, bike, car or on foot, you should be okay.
