No bag lines and DSLR camera

I've done bagless and bag trips, and while it's nice to skip the bag line, is it really that big of a deal? Maybe I'm missing something but sometimes it seems like people worry way too much about this kind of thing.

Well based on my last few trips .... I went through bag line, waited, had my bag rifled and then had to close it up, then had to hand it over as I went through the metal detector .............. while MANY MANY others were simply walking through no bag check right PAST the metal detectors to the entry gates. Seriously pointless and me ... who is being checked, scanned and stared down ........ took WAY longer than the "bagless" folks who could have all kinds of stuff on their person. I mean I assume the selfie sticks are getting in by putting them under shirts.

Yes I'm at this point aggravated with the non-security happening. I complained to the security and they said "Please tell Disney, we want to scan everyone, we agree with you that this is not accomplishing anything."

No need to go through bag check. We went this past weekend, bagless as always, and I brought my DSLR with me.

Going bagless, we almost always get sent through the metal detectors. All I have to do is set the camera on the table, walk through, and pick it back up.

Depending on the type of ride, I either hold it in my lap, put it in the provided item holding pouch, or in the case of potential water, tuck it under my shirt. Obviously I don't get on rides like Splash or Kali.

It did downpour on us unexpectedly yesterday so I didn't have my poncho. We just popped into the first shop and asked for a bag to stick it in. No hassle.

I would argue that scanning everyone would be equally pointless. The point I was trying to make is that the 2 minutes bag check might burn at the beginning of your day is not all that much in the grand scheme of things. Even if park hopping, you're looking at 8-10 minutes total inconvenience versus having to cram everything you might want/need in to pockets for the day, which to me seems way more annoying.

Disagree.

I have no issue with time spent if everyone were being treated the same, but they aren't. I am being held up twice when most the bagless were not held up at all. This was a consistent occurrence in our trips Jan, March, April, May and now August. The process now is pointless.

I feel as though the park is security is mostly theater, much like TSA, and it's only a matter of time before Disney has their own version of precheck that you can pay for, they already dabbled with it with the Express Transportation pilot, one of the main selling points was bypassing security at the parks after you've done it once. The idea being that anyone who wants to do something particularly sinister isn't going to be so easily thwarted, and the sight of the security will panic any would-be aggressors. This is the same methodology used for airport security and is well documented to be nearly completely useless. If they were really concerned about an actionable threat, believe me, they'd be scanning everybody and their sister. That they aren't, tells me this is no more than the typical security song and dance to look effective without having to really do anything.
