Does anyone know if you can go through the no bag lines at the parks with a dslr (not in a case) around your neck? That's all I'm planning on bringing into the parks, but if I have to go through the bag check line I might as well actually bring a bag.

Thanks in advance

When we went to the Magic Kingdom our first day there, my husband only had a camera around his neck and he was allowed through the no bag lines without a problem.

I've done bagless and bag trips, and while it's nice to skip the bag line, is it really that big of a deal? Maybe I'm missing something but sometimes it seems like people worry way too much about this kind of thing.

A bag means another thing to secure on every ride, so it seems overall a bit more carefree experience.

It's all personal preference. Some people would rather take Disney transportation (like me) others would rather drive themselves. Different approaches work for different families.

So where do you secure a DSLR then with no bag, on a ride that you need to put it away? :confused3

I get that, though personally I've never found securing a bag on a ride to be a big issue, but the focus seems to be especially on the bag check line. Reading these forums they start to sound like airport security!

Even on RnRC and Everest I just put my bag at my feet, or I have the camera on a strap tucked down at my side. Disney is very good about bags on rides, I can't imagine it's that much of a problem. I guess I'm just surprised...

I guess you're not worried about the camera getting wet. Some things you can plan around (skip Splash Mountain). Some attractions are wetter than anticipated (Frozen Ever After, depending on where you are in the boat). Sometimes Mother Nature surprises us.

You can always stop in a gift shop and ask for a bag. We have done that when we started out wearing jackets and then it got too warm for them. Not a big fan of stretching the sleeves by tying it around the waist, so we asked for a bag. They gave us a clear plastic bag that held them both, so it would be plenty big to hold a camera and keep it dry if necessary. It wouldn't offer any protection from bangs and drops though.

I'd be more worried about getting sick of having a camera around my neck. And trying to protect it on rides.

Thats why my DSLR is a Weather Sealed Pentax, It is very happy to get a nice bath and keep on shooting! But I actually plan on spending a day or two in the park; in November, with a late 60's Pentax Spotmatic, or really old school an old 6x6 Yashica TLR and Black and White Film. For that I will do the shopping bag trick. I have never taken a bag in the parks, just the camera with a zoom mounted and maybe a 28 or 50 mm prime lens in a cargo pocket.

The newer over the sholder straps that hook to the tripod mount let the camera hang comfortable at your side like a purse with the lens tucked into your side. I also always hate having that old strap rubbing on my neck, but with the neopren sholder strap it is very comfortable and easy to use your right hand to quickly bring the camera up to your eye to shoot.

It really depends on the weight of the camera and how that weight is distributed via the strap. Some straps you wear more like a crossbody bag, so you don't get a sore neck like you can if you wear a really heavy camera on an insufficient neck strap. I have a very light and small DSLR, and it's actually more comfortable to wear around the neck than my old point and shoot was. I'm not a huge thrill ride person anyway, so having to protect it isn't as big a deal for me as it might be for others. I usually don't bring a camera bag if I'm bringing the camera into the park. I have two pancake prime lenses I bring in (one in a pocket) or one zoom lens, and a spare battery.

I have a DSLR. I always bring my camera bag with me, because I don't want to risk anything happening to it (especially weather-wise). Plus I wouldn't want it to get banged around on a ride, or risk the lens getting scratched.

But no. If you have just the camera, you don't have to go through a bag line out front

A camera is not a bag. If it's not in a bag, you don't need to go in bag check. Same as if you are carrying a cell phone that isn't in a bag, it's not a bag, and you can go in no bags.
