Im just testing out how it all works for when my 60 window opens. Im going solo and have noticed Ale & Compass shows availability for two but not one. I booked a reserservation for two thinking i could modify it to one person but it wouldn't let me. Is this a common thing for other restaurants as well. Am I just out of luck being solo?

I would hope you could get a table for 1! You can always book for 2 and try to call in to see that this won’t cause any problems. But might as well get it for 2 now…a week out night but be anything available.

Its a very common problem us solo travelers have! Like Meglen said, book it for 2 and just show up, no need to modify.

Sept 2019 - I booked Yak and Yeti for two because the web site wouldn't let me book for one.

When I got there solo the hostess asked, "Only one?" and I told her why. She laughed and said she hears that all the time.

And then called the Disney restaurant police and had me thrown out of Animal Kingdom...

That's the nature of the adr beast. We are 3 but have to book for 4. We show up 20 minutes early and drop the 1 at check-in. Except once. Once we ended up eating at Be Our Guest with some random European who was trying to walk in a 1 when we were going to drop. We just grabbed him by the arm and announced ourselves as party of 4.

Edit because of phone autocorrect

We are three and have never had a problem booking for three...

You've been lucky.
I was only able to find some reservations for 4, and not 3.

Some restaurants have actual 3-tops. So if you're booking for 3 at a restaurant with a 3-top it's not as much of an issue.

The odd numbered thing has been a problem for years off and on in their computer system. We are a family of 3 and there have been lots of times that when I was unable to get an ADR for 3, I just tried again for 4 and had success. I actually was told to do that years ago by a phone CM, when I called in. Just book for 1 and when you show up say your other couldn't make it. They don't charge as long as someone shows up for the table.

It's interesting. We visit a lot -- three weeks per year since it opened. But with the current ADR system and our party of three (my own family, as opposed to the years we went with my parents) we've been booking threes for the past 13 years. But we choose "3" for our group size and then book our dining. We usually can get pretty much everything we want if we book at the first allowable advance window. But I never actually tried entering "4" instead of "3" if we couldn't find a table for our party of "3". I'll have to give that a try next time I run into a case where there are no available slots :) Most tables are 2 or 4 (or above), so I'm not sure if it would make a difference. But if I were in that situation I would book the 4 and show up with three. I can't see them caring. If anything what we've done more often is increase our booking from 3 to 5 or 6 (because we meet up with friends onsite and want to add them to our dinner). We've done this maybe five or six times in the past 13 years and amazingly, we have been accommodated every time (generally upsizing is more of a challenge for them).

Last week our 60 day window opened and from playing with the system a few days I learned:

Sci-Fi now favors parties of 6.

For a couple days I couldn’t find anything for our entire 6 day trip. Plugged in 6ppl and all of a sudden 4 slots opened up on different days.

eta- I think that’s do to seating, the dining cars seat a total of 6 in 3 rows. Maybe they are not seating different smaller parties together in the same car and now prefer larger parties?

Yes, this is very common. As a solo traveler, I have had to book for 2 people at many places. I have been able to modify in the past, but they made it harder. So I either call, go to guest relations while there, or just show up solo. I think it is crappy of them to do this.

Just book for 2, and when you check in just say it was for 2 but the other person had to cancel. It worked for me at A&C, and pretty much any time I've done table service.

I do this all the time, justify it by thinking I might run into another solo whom I’d like to invite to dinner. Never been charged, although every time it’s just one. Just did this yesterday at Jungle Skipper Canteen
