NJ & Sandy

I think they said last night they were going to be closed today in NJ.

Anyone know where to find forms to get assurance for the food we lost? I heard we could apply for that?

Do you have homeowner's insurance? My mom had a few trees down from the storm and when she was talking to her homeowners insurance company she mentioned power was out for 5 days. The claims person asked her if she lost food in her fridge/freezer and she did, so he is sending a check to cover that.
Good luck.

Lost power last night AGAIN!!!!

Downed power line.:scared1: PSEG will not even answer phones.
Once again had to move my mom as she is on oxygen. This is getting so weary

We made it through the snowstorm without a loss of power, but I will tell you, the drive to work this morning (I left my house at 7 AM) was very eerie. Trees bending to virtually meet in the middle of the road...some traffic lights out again...powerlines and more trees down.

We lost power for about 10 minutes last night. We had just put everything away. I was sitting quilting and I use an extra light that is battery powered and that was the only thing on in the house for 10 minutes.

Dh was supposed to have school today and tomorrow but both days have been cancelled. He is getting antsy. I don't know what he is going to do next year when he is retired.:confused3:confused3 I think he now understands why he needs to get a part time job.

11 days and FINALLY we have power! Those with wells understand the glory of a good old toilet flush!

I would be very careful in filing an insurance claim for just the lost food. If you had other losses then yea maybe add the food to it. But if I just lost food, I would not file a claim.

I don't know what insurance companies will do after these storms are over, but insurance has become an ugly word in our area and is only filed in the case of extremely catastrophic losses.

After Katrina, we had about $5000 in claims and our home owner's insurance has quadrupled and it is very difficult to change comanies.

Just this afternoon the cable came back on after 11 days out - lost power but it's back too

Got gas this morning

Very grateful tonight.

I work with a guy whose wife is a teacher in a neighboring town. He told me they called her and told her it would probably a month before they would be back in session. Like 80% of the town is still without power.

We had a school damaged in the next town over. The kids will be shipped to a couple of different schools so that they could start on Monday.

I don't think I have posted here. We are still without power - almost 11 nights. We were able to purchase a generator a week ago - I am able to function some when we are running it.

We are all okay here - just some fallen trees. My mom's house got flooded really, really bad and my brother lost almost everything including a car and motorcycle. Again - these things can all be replaced. I can't believe what I saw/am seeing just a few down the blocks from me. It is so sad. I cried just walking by.

My dd's high school will need repairs. At least 11 buildings of the 13 at the campus were flooded. Until they are done they will be in a closed Catholic school a few towns away. They currently have no idea how long that will take. The good news is they will start back at the temporary location on Tuesday.

Day 11 here in warren county and we got power back this afternoon. Our wonderful guys were from North and South Carolina.

22 trees down on my property, nothing touched our house though.

We think a small tornado came through based on the path of the downed trees but who knows.

Just very very grateful.

I have been watching news daily and staten island got hit so so bad. I am sorry for your family. It is so devastating. So uncanny that so many parts of NJ and NY unaffected and their daily life just goes on while so many people are sitting in shelters without a home. It is so unreal

Anna, I'm sorry. It's so hard when familiar sights are destroyed by bad weather. Things can be replaced but it's normal to feel sad and angry when you lose them.
I'm glad you were a ble to buy a generator- at least it can make things feel a little mre normal.
You and everyone affected are in my prayers.

I'm so very sorry but so happy your all ok.

Wanted to update on my Aunt in Breezy Point. 900 volunteers were there yesterday. Between the fire, flooding and now all the demolition is looks like a war zone.
Habitat for Humanity really helped with knocking the house down they were so gracious and warm. There were some Amish gentlemen that were so skilled I was just amazed.
It does sometimes take something so harsh to see the beauty in others.

Having been in that house visiting and sharing so many special times it feels like a death, I just can't imagine what it feels like to my family that lived in that home.
