My thoughts are with everyone dealing with the aftermath of this storm.

Has anyone heard from LBIJim?

I have not seen anything & I've looked. He did say that they left early because his wife wanted to. So, I know he's somewhere on the mainland, hopefully safe. They had done a beautiful remodel on their house several years ago, he posted pics and I'm assuming it was the house he lives on in Beach Haven. It was gorgeous--hoping their home weathered the storm. Seems quite hit and miss.

Checking in......all of our telephone poles are almost down put we are way down the list for priority which is understandable.
Some local firehouses are flooded and lots of people still under water.

Roof tops rescues have started on the shore.
Friends in Hoboken has lost their apartments and all in it. The pressure of the water blew out the car windows.

Tomorrow my Aunt and niece will see Breezy Point and see if anything is left.


The fires are so scary.......just praying and hoping for more check ins.

My cousin owns a store in Beach Haven, and aunt & uncle live in Ship Bottom. They all got out safely, but are very worried about what they'll see when they're allowed to return. They've been told it could be 10 days

Thinking of everone in NJ, I use to live in Bergen County and loved she shore. I saw pictures of Cape May and I see many houses close to the beach are still standing.

Manalapan (Monmouth County) here. Still no power. Thankfully we have a generator. New cars suck! You can't siphon gas out of them..sigh. I found gas on the turnpike yesterday! So two trips about 1 hour rt. My town is like a maze trying to get around. Lots of streets blocked off. Older huge trees down, fences. I am very lucky, no flooding (we had the sump going) and just some roof shingles, we will get them repaired.

DS11 has no school all this week, and had a scheduled week next (hmm..,if we had power I would be heading to WDW). DD16 is off until Friday (I am pretty sure that will be cancelled also). DH made it to work today in PA, and was able buy four more gas cans! (we had a big one and little one). So I am grateful for that. He will be able to fill them on his way home, so we can keep that gen going. I just cooked a roast on the grill, and am using lots of paper and plastic. Kids are bored silly and at each other worse then usual.

I already told them next week when they are scheduled to be off, I want to find a place for us to volunteer. I also have toys and clothes that I have yet donated ready to go. Just have to find a place.

We are so lucky. The pictures of the shore are heartwrenching. We have a friend in Belmar and I think her house was destroyed. She did evacuate, but we haven't heard anything yet.

JCP&L says 7 - 10 days..I hope not...but if that is the worst that happens then so be it.

Just got power back on about an hour ago in Middlesex County. I can't believe how hard the shore got hit. All the childhood memories at Seaside wont be the same anymore, but I should be thankful. Heart goes out to anyone who lost their house.

Got power back about an hour ago. We had a generator, but it died on us about an hour after we started it up.

Things in my immediate area do not seem to be all that horrible, but go a mile or two and it's like a war zone, there is so much devastation.

Mom & Dad's house had at least 1.5 feet of water in it, but at least it's still standing. They won't be allowed back on the island for at least another week, or so we've been told. We all figure it could be Christmas before they are back in their own home. Thankfully, we have room for them to stay here, so at least Dad will be less confused than if he had to be in a hotel.

We've been told there is a mountain of sand in the middle of Long Beach Blvd. in Brant Beach and that all EMS have been moved off the island in favor of the National Guard.

On tonight's news they were saying that maps are going to have to be redrawn. There are inlets where there were none before, beaches have moved, and tidal charts will have to be redone.

I hope that those who are still without power get it back soon.

As far as anyone in LBI, they have the national guard out there since Sunday, I don't know if there is any communication out available. I haven't heard/seen anything about deaths on the island, but news is still coming out. Even around here telephone service is sketchy, both landline and cellular.

Wow, under the circumstances that's pretty heartless. In many places the sand is several blocks in from where the beach was. It was moved by wind and waves. Also boardwalks are just gone in many towns.

My heart goes out to people who lost homes especially if they were primary residence.

I'm in mercer county and my neighborhood got power back Wednesday morning but most of our town is still out. It's a mess here with lots of roads closed.

Wow, that is incredibly rude and insensitive. Calling many people on this board (and their family and friends) stupid and apparently worthy of being eliminated from the gene pool, especially as they are dealing with losses? Lovely, just lovely. Oh well, then I guess nobody should live in California (earthquakes) or the midwest (tornado alley, anyone?) or lots of other places, either.

Jersey girl here... I'm going to go with perhaps since you've grown up in New Jersey, you are traumatized by the events of Sandy and feel like you need to blame something, the "stupidity" of the people to live so close to water. It's the only reasonable explanation as to why you would post such an insensitive remark. At least that I can think of... Giving you the benefit of the doubt here.

As a reminder, there are many, many towns in New Jersey and New York and other parts of the NE that are not along the coastal areas where homes and properties and lives have been destroyed...

My parents & sister are still without power. I talked to my Mom and they have a condo in lavalette and then sad thing is they have no idea the extent of the damage done, since they have no power.

She thinks they will be able to go check on the condo this week, I told her I don't think so. I am trying to explain to her how bad it is, but when you see the pictures it is so heart breaking.

I feel for all the families that have lost everything. The Jersey shore has always been a part of my life growing up and it is so sad to see the destruction.

It is the flooding that caused the foundation to be destroyed. Also Breezy is 100% septic tanks and they have all been opened. Yesterday the water line was up over the fridge and they had about 8 inches still in the house.

Today they are trying to get back in to see if they can get to the 2nd floor for my nephews clothes, toys & crib (he's 18 months).

I am neither poor nor stupid- I love the beach and love living by my family. My community has seen something that has not happened in multiple lifetimes- so it's not an everyday kind of thing.

We've lost cars, houses, schools, restaurants. I honestly don't know when our town will be livable again. We are just now seeing the government arriving. There is no power, food, cell service. Looting has started. Basic and abject human suffering.

But I guess in your mind, society will be better off if we just die off since we're too stupid to live.

Checking in from Brick. We finally got our power back (lost it Monday night at 8:20). Thankfully, our neighborhood just has some trees down. Our barrier islands are gone...bridges gone....fires...a house in the middle of Rt 35. Unbelieveable devastation. President Obama flew over our town.
Thank you to all the states who sent workers and emergency personnel. We saw truck from Florida to Detroit.
We can see the GSP from our front door, and we've seen many, many convoys of flashing lights for the last 4 days. Not sure where they're going, or who they are, but thankful they are on their way.

I've also been wondering about LBIJim.

On a different note, our neighbors were heading to WDW this weekend...but ther left yesterday instead! Since there was no school (and won't be until Nov 12), and both parents were off from work, they just decided to add a couple of days onto their trip. Good for them!
