Hi luv4u,

A place, date, and time has already been confirmed. It is listed in the first post. Are you joining us? :)

Great news! I have secured a dining review with Kevin and John for the silent auction. :) Details will be at the meet. Get those dollars ready! :cool1:

Hey everyone!
I know we have a smaller meet planned than New England did today- but we can still make a good showing and raise money for Give Kids the World while having FUN!! (woo hoo to the New Englanders!! :thumbsup2)

So, this is what we have planned:
Meet and mingle
Lunch
Silent Auction (don't forget to PM me with the items you are bringing please)
Kids' activities

This is what we need to make that happen:

THINGS to BRING
Tablecloths for the auction (I will have # & sizes this week)
Name tags
Cash box
Pens/pencils for auction, trivia and games
Trivia sheets- any trivia experts out there?
Coloring sheets & crayons for kids
Kids’ games?
A sign to announce our event?- is anyone graphically creative? (I love what they did in Boston this weekend)

JOBS to DO
Greeters (3)- hand out bingo sheets & name tags. Show where to bring auction items
Auction set up (3)- gather items as people arrive, place on tables and place bid sheets/pens. Make sure starting bid, increments and description are on sheet
Bankers (2)- collect $5/person. Offer lox donation jar for additional $$. After auction, collect money for items won.
Kids’ activity coordinator- coloring sheets

If anyone is interested in helping out- whether it be set up or clean up, games, etc. - please post here.
I will have a time when we can arrive by Tuesday this week, as well as configuration of the 2 rooms, table sizes, etc.

Hi Everyone..

Just wanted to stop by and say good luck! I know our event was as huge as it was because, Pete, Walter & Kathy showed up. Every dollar counts and I know you guys will do amazing. I just emailed Nikki the letter we used to request donations, If anyone else would like it please PM me with your email address. I also made some custom activity books for our even and am happy to tweak them alittle and mail them off for you all.

You will have an amazing time..

I have access to a wide format printer, and can print something up to 36" wide, if that helps. I can come up with a graphic, too, if nobody else steps up.

Also, I noticed at the MA meet, they did more of a chinese auction than a silent auction. I almost wonder if a combination of the two might work well for our group. Perhaps we could do higher ticket items as silent auction items, and smaller stuff as chinese auction? That would allow the tabulation of the silent auction stuff while the chinese auction prizes were being drawn & handed out. Hmm... does this mean I'm offering to help with the auction? Maybe. =)

As for things, I can pick up name tags (tie in with the graphic, maybe?) & other "office" supplies - pencils, pens, tickets (if we go for the chinese auction), etc.

And I am planning to donate a prize - I'll PM you.

That's great Jen!

I would love if the name tags matched the theme of the sign. And if you have the creativity and the tools to do both- that would be fantastic!

Interesting idea about combining the 2 auction types. Nikki and I will mull that over once we see what everyone is bringing. If we have a nice variety of "smaller" items for a ticket based chinese auction- we may consider that too.

I'm adding your name to sign, name tags, pens/pencils and auction help!!!!:thumbsup2

Linda already knows this but I'll post here as well. I'm planning on focusing on the silent auction set up and running. I'm also working on activities for the kids including coloring pages. Anyone else who wants to help is welcome. :)

This week I'm going to contact a few more places for silent auction donations. I have one very high publicity one as an idea from another DISer. The dining review w Kevin and John is also finalized. :)

Can't wait! Linda, Phyllis, and anyone else helping with the auction set up please pm me. We have some logistics to figure out.

Jenn I'd love for you to make a graphic. I've been dying for one and think it should go on all of the silent auction papers, etc. Thanks so much for stepping up! I can't wait to see it!!

I know you two are planning more on the silent auction, but having some experience fundraising with some art groups I'm in, we see many more people buying tickets than writing in their info on silent auction forms. The feedback we've gotten ranges from silent auctions being confusing to the comment that some people don't like writing down their info on the forms and just prefer the anonymity of dumping a ticket in a jar/bag/etc. By doing a combination of the two, you can do silent auctions for items you have a bottom line price for, and just raise as much as possible for items without a defined value using the ticket auctions.

I'm really a wannabe graphic artist with no real training, but I think I can cobble something together, most likely using the Power of 10 logo, the Dis logo & a map of NJ. (that said, I'll shoot an email asking if it's ok to use the Dis & P of 10 logos for this type of thing as soon as I've finished typing this). The name tags might be too small for the full logo, but there can certainly be a similar color scheme... Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend, eh? =)

Thanks again, Jenn! I totally agree about the silent auction and have a few ideas. Would you like to be in on the planning of it, too, or just stick with the logo stuff? :)

Hi there,

Just wanted to be clear and let you know what we did in MA. now remember we had over 200 people and a team of 12 planning this event for about 2 months. We had a "Door Prize Raffle" (Chineese Auction) and a Silent Auction. Everyone who purchased a ticket to our event got a free ticket for the "Door Prize Raffle", and if you wanted more you could by them. We had over 35 items donated that were part of this category. Then we had our Silent Auction. We got almost 30 silent Auction items from DISers and businesses and raised about $4,500 from our Silent Auction. The raffle was nice cause it was fun for the kids too, We had one little girl who got so excited when she won she was in tears.. it was AWESOME!!

I have a package going out to Nikki in the next few days and I think we have extra raffle tickets.. I will add them in in case you need them.

You guys are going to have fun, as Fun as Boston was I wish I had had the chance to talk to people more... and remember.. Every Dolllar counts.

I've been at events where you received a set number of tickets for the cost you paid to get in and then you could buy an additional 5 or 10. The auction committee will need to talk about how they want to go about this. All great ideas! I am getting so excited for our event! :)

ACK! I am going to miss this and am not happy! but its my DH's only free Saturday and we have to schedule DD's 8th birthday party. Nikki if you PM me your mailing address I will mail the lithographs to you for the auction.
